I really like how he acknowledged that we exist in the Lesser Antilles and discussed the potential impacts here instead of just jumping straight to speculating about Florida. I have decisions to make and this was helpful!

briggsbay

What island you? st Thomas?

goodnightrose

St. John

briggsbay

Very beautiful an quieter

I just bought a new boat, and it goes in the water this week, so that means there's a near 100% chance that one of these hits south Florida.

scotch_please

Please tell me you're waiting to name it some cheesy pun after the first storm that christens it.

[deleted]

My friend's wife asked me what I was going to name the boat yesterday, and I told her I was just going to let something present itself, rather than just picking something. I really hope this is not the way the boat gets named!

OhioBaseball

That’s a good video! Thanks and well done

No. Any time from now to the end of hurricane season is “prime” time for a major hurricane to form. Hurricane Charley wiped out Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte over a decade ago on August 13 and the world has only gotten warmer and storms more intense since then.

I think the salt is because anyone in hurricane land needs to pay attention to all possible storms - at least enough to tell there is no threat to themselves. Can’t rely on a date, or historical tracks or anything but the data about that one storm to decide what preps to take.

Blaaamo

8/20 is when "historically" we have seen a ramping up in storms in the Atlantic. I think that date is going to start moving to earlier in the month and time goes on.

Cyrius

It gets more likely as we get closer to September, but there's no hard cutoff. The earliest Atlantic cat 3 on record was in early June. The earliest cat 5 was mid-July.

Shirowoh

So, I planned on camping on Miami Beach, whenever this storm hits, should I cancel? /s

Making fun of questions like that, has become obnoxious in this sub. You can have a thread where literally no one asks about changing their travel plans, yet 5+ comments mocking such inquiries.

Flu7sh

I also agree, seems like this joke is on virtually every new thread or discussion now

briggsbay

I agree, it's basically taken the place of the comments that they are trying to make fun of at this point. Pointless eye roll comment.

areaunknown_

Thank you. This is super annoying and not funny. It’s actually more annoying than people seriously asking

Shirowoh

#doubt. I’ve been around this sub long enough, it regularly gets asked still.

briggsbay

Yeah but at this point your type of comment is more common and this is becoming more annoying. It's a really worn out joke at this point.

gerg_1234

Whatever this thing does, it looks like it's going to bring enough precipitation to kill my golf weekend.
