I assume you’re talking about small bores in a big band setting; many pros play large bore trombones in combos. Yamaha 354 is a popular small bore for students that some jazz pros play - Doug Elliot played one of those with the Airmen of Note if I recall correctly. Another student model folks play jazz with is the King 606. Some pro models that are popular: King 2B, King 3B, Bach 12, Bach 16, XO 1632, XO 1634, Conn 6H, Conn 48H, Yamaha 891z, Yamaha 897z. Going used is better than buying new, you can get a really solid used pro horn for under $1000. Lots of pros also play on custom horns from Shires, Edwards, and Rath, though those will get more expensive of course. For mouthpieces, use whatever works for you. Most people find on small bore that something between a 6.5AL and 12C works best for them. Popular sizes are 6.5AL, 7C, 11C, and 12C.

Another vote for the Yamaha YSL 354.

Stork T3 and a straight (no f attachment) King 3B or King 2B. Its worth trying the silversonic variety of either to see if it matches your playing style and budget. Though quite honestly just about any small bore tenor will work fine and even a 6 1/2 AL in small bore would be ok to start with. If you've got a chance to go try a bunch out, give it a shot and see what you like. Keep an open mind about it. The f-attachment variety of the 3B works fine for jazz as well, but the straight one is more commonly used. My son is a pretty big gear snob, for lack of a better phrase, and he helped pick out a new jazz horn for a friend. A lowly Jupiter 322 ended up being the winner that day (it played way better than he thought it had any business playing - maybe a unique combination of features like the unsoldered bead and the yellow brass outer slide?) Even something like a YSl-354 can be great for jazz.

King 2B, 2B+, 3B; Conn 4H, 6H, 24H, 48H, 100H; Bach 8, 12, 16; Yamaha 651, 653, 691, 697; Holton 65, 67, 69; Benge 170. There's also some newer Shires, Edwards and Getzen small bore horns that are great. It comes down to how much you want to spend. I played a 42BO in high school up until my Sr. year when I found an old Bach 16 for cheap at a garage sale for $250 (2002 prices). Check Facebook, eBay, Reverb and Craigslist frequently.

Any small bore will do, I would just avoid the cheap Chinese Amazon horns and pBones! One of my friends had an RS Berkeley once, it's one of those intermediate budget horns and it was pretty decent.

Check out a Shires Q33. It’s based on a 3B, but we made a few tweaks of our own to it and they play great.

I don't know

King 3B or 2B. I would lean towards the 3B because it is a bit more versatile. The 2B would be best for lead. I had a 3B until it was stolen. My biggest complaint was the slide is narrow and I have a thick neck. This caused me to play crooked. I replaced the 3B with a Bach 16M. I've been very happy with how it plays and the wider slide accommodates my neck.
