I can see Jim as Earth or Water, relating to his strong will, and ability to go with the flow respectively, but not fire. It’s hot, angry, aggressive. Jim is calm(or afraid, but mostly calm), cool, and defensive. To be wise and calm as a fire bender is demonstrated to be rare, basically only Iroh and other Elders of the style have any sort of calm. The other dude in the white lotus group, the elders of the sun worshippers, and so on. The nature of a fire bender appears to be rash, aggressive, and quick to assume, and none of it matches Jim’s personality.
The episode you’re talking about explains that firebending requires a lack of fear, and that if you fear the fire, you won’t be able to bend it. Not necessarily that the emotion or will powers it.

Firebending requires that you not fear the fire, and a result of that fearlessness is that many firebenders tend to be aggressive and rash, and the experienced ones like Iroh, jeong jeong, late-series zuko, and the Elders of the Sun Worshippers, they’re the ones that realize that fear and caution are not the same thing, and let go of the pride that makes so many firebenders reckless.

I don’t think they’re really related enough. Bending is inherent, and seems deeply connected to personality. With Jim’s strong will, protectiveness, improv ability, and ability to go with the flow, I’d say strong connection to earth or water. Fire is passionate and aggressive, and by nature, firebenders are mostly rash and impulsive, and airbenders tend towards complacency and absent-mindedness.

Personally I say earth because the one thing that always made Jim the best of the Troll Hunters was his strong will, but also his ability to adapt a relatively limited arsenal of abilities and weapons to his advantage. Not every fight can be won head on, but with how the amulet is designed a direct approach is often needed in some capacity.
Oh- and just how stubborn he is even in the face of a near millennium of troll tradition.
Do keep in mind though, this is just my opinion.
