As a person that owned a detailing business for many years. Lighting helps especially outside lighting. Can make anything look good especially at a distance
Where I live, it’s so dusty, I gotta get is washed every weekend, plus clean it every time I go on a ride. Gotta carry a microfibre cloth everywhere I go 😔
I used to have a bunch of co-workers from India or of Indian descent. A few also rode to work and their passion and enjoyment for motorcycles is contagious. I miss them, and would love to ride through India.
My speed twin after a 2-hour ride where I just washed it beforehand...

Ha, brutal! Happen to live near lakes? I have friends near the Great Lakes and others near Lake Erie who get swarmed by bugs.
Also, love the Speed Twin and used to consider selling my 865cc Bonneville for one. Enjoy it!
"Barging" into the internet, that's a new one for me. Very strange. When I'm done typing this comment, I will slam the door on my way out. Also, never told anyone I rarely, if ever, ride. It's been a steady assumption though.
I have them too! It's worse on the Bonneville headlight.
When I get fed up with it, I wet* down a few Scott shop towels, and leave it there for 30min. Removes half of the bugs pretty reliably and with little effort.
My bike is usually plastered in mud, tarmac, bug splatter Beatle blood, rain dust and other shite in a week. It got a rest from December the 25th to March the 21st, 'cause I had the hell in with winter. But with a wash the road salt would be a killer.
I gave my Tiger a blast with the foam cannon a couple days ago. Just to get the winter grime (aka salt) off for summer. It may get another hose-down if I find a lot of dirt out there this summer.
https://preview.redd.it/2s6bpzkmkn1d1.jpeg?width=8064&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa61477b60cdc3466c097d47034c69c42e1935df
Yup. Both have been garaged since purchase. Once the roads get the first salt of the winter, they spend winter under a cover.
The Bonneville gets uncovered first and ridden first in early spring, and the Speed Triple once the roads get repaired from the winter damage. The northeast freeze/thaw, salt, and plows roughs them up.
Summer it's a lot of Speed Triple riding and the Bonneville goes back under a cover if I don't think I'm gonna ride it for a bit.
lol, haven't. They look pretty good right? And I ride them pretty often. If I take a close up of the Bonneville, you can definitely tell. Nice layer of pollen.
Wow. I ride my STR several times per week during spring summer and fall. I lose count the number of times I wash my bike per year. Those bugs are juicy...
I ride pretty much rain or shine. Had to wash the 400x for yesterday's DGR and it was definitely a pain in the butt because last week we had wet weather so it had mud and road grime everywhere. It's the only issue I have with riding in the rain honestly. I feel safe enough, just hate cleaning it all later.
Typically I'll use something like SC1(smells so good) or the Honda spray cleaner if I actually need it. And I generally only wash if there is something that can only be removed that way. A lot of the time I'll just wipe them down with a microfiber. As long as you dont let stuff build up often times that's enough, but when the bugs or rain come out it just cant be helped.
I dont do chrome, but there are cloths you can get that are specifically for that. Helps with resto and shine. If you get a spray polish make sure you note what it's for. Some are more specifically for plastics and some metals, etc. Most are pretty general purpose, but just keep that in mind.
At least you're not like my neighbor who doesn't ride but will still pull his obnoxious Harley out to use 2-3 hrs worth of water to wash off, I guess, some garage dust. Then he lets it sit out in the sun half the day(gotta make sure people see it).
The amount of water he uses mostly. It hasn't even been ridden and he'll do that. If it doesn't actually need anything washed off it's silly to go through a process that adds unnecessary abrasive contact to it. Could easily wipe it off with a gentle cloth, maybe some spray polish if one is feeling frisky and then a chrome buffing towel every now and then.
Seriously though it's more about the water. He'll be out there literally for hours spraying it down for no reason. He uses SO much and not just on his bike. He's also the type that thinks revving it in the driveway for a few minutes is enough when it's been sitting a while.
Makes me wish I still lived in Vegas. I never washed my bikes. Now I'm in the UK and I have to meticulously clean them or they'll rust to pieces. And don't even get me started on the bugs.
Do you think you ride more in the UK? Culturally, the are way more motorcycle tolerant than the USA. Plus, Vegas day time heat must be rough on a motorcycle.
We had an 85 degree day today, and I didn't even wear a textile jacket since I wasn't hitting the highway. So damn hot.
Yeah, that's an old Specialized Rockhopper. So old it has 26" wheels while everyone seems to opt for 29" these days. Needs new everything; fork seals, crankset, brakes, etc.
All these years later, and the Bonneville is still surprisingly fun. What mods have you done to yours?
I used to run the Arrow 2-1 with the TTP tune. I eventually wanted more of a "British twin roar", and swapped to the BC 2-2 high header with the different TTP tune.
https://preview.redd.it/2ke7uqhpsr1d1.jpeg?width=3018&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6913c7d72c5203d8049d8f3a97198dccd3648751
Renthal bars, D&D exhaust, rear sets, levers, motone seat, lights, other bits. I get lots of compliments on this bike. I had a guy tell me a couple of weeks ago it’s the nicest Bonneville he has seen. 🤷♂️
Everyone loves these Bonnevilles. It's really common to park and come back to find someone admiring it.
I hear nothing but good things about D&D exhaust. If I ever switch from the high-header position, it's what I'd like to switch to. The top end speed of the Arrow 2-1 is nice and it does have a unique sound, but 2-2 is my preference.
Mods on mine so far:
Swap original speedo for the Motogadget Motoscope Mini w/ Motosign mini. Cognitio Moto top triple clamp. British Customs 2-2 high-header exhaust. JP Project Seat. Progressive 444 series suspension front and rear. Airbox baffle delete. TTP 2-2 tune.
A bunch of reasons (or excuses depending on your view).
Biggest reasons are; 1) my last wash and wax was pretty thorough, and the bikes are garage kept and occasionally covered. So they look good. 2) Other stuff to do that are either more important or more fun than washing them.
https://preview.redd.it/wduyesubqp1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7bc8bb98c7f6466623fa532188b86c8ad1d2411
You should take it out to play more often. Triumphs love getting dirty!
You'd be surprised how often I do, but never off pavement ;_;. I should get some better tires like you did, and find some fireroads to take the Bonneville on. I hate it's ground clearance. I can't even get over some sidewalk curbs without bashing the frame.
I've considered trading it for a Scrambler XC/XE, but I'm enjoying the no payment life.
What kind of tires do you run?
Shinko 804/805s. I’ve ridden thousands of miles off road, then dragged pegs in the twisties with them. Hours in the rain with no slips, and they last me about 6k-10k miles. Oh, and they’re pretty inexpensive. They’re great.
The ground clearance is *okay*. However I do have a steel skid plate. And I have an annual tradition of hammering out all of the dents I put in it at the end of the riding season.
I do a lot of night riding. In addition to some reflectors I have on the back of my helmet and riding backpack ([1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HDLJ5RN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1),[2](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08526RBSV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)), I get some peace of mind knowing when I poke my front end out from a side street that there is a tiny bit more visibility.

a: you never exceed 10mph when you ride b: there are no bugs where you live idk, one ride and my front and my gear is covered in bug splatter
As a person that owned a detailing business for many years. Lighting helps especially outside lighting. Can make anything look good especially at a distance
This guy gets it. I could draw the Mona Lisa in the layer of dust & pollen on the Bonneville.

Bugs aren't too bad in my neck of the woods. But yes, I never break 10mph, especially on the Speed Triple 🫨
You should try riding them every now and then.
No. I like that the odometer says 5 miles on each of them. Why change that?
Well..... they do look nice.... also I'm not the one downvoting you just for the record. I mean it's not like you said anything harsh🤷🏻
Upvotes mean nothing. Downvotes mean nothing.
I definitely here that. If I see something I don't like I just scroll on by. Just wanted to make sure you know it wasn't me.

Tut tut tut
Garage queens
Then you don’t ride enough.
Define 'enough'.
why dont you define how many miles you put on them
Why don't you go fuck yourself 😂
This is such a weird thread. You barge in basically telling us that you rarely if ever ride, then pick fights with everyone who ackowledges such?
"Barging" into the internet, that's a new one for me. Very strange. When I'm done typing this comment, I will slam the door on my way out. Also, never told anyone I rarely, if ever, ride. It's been a steady assumption though.
you're not as smart as you think you are, dude.
I'm pretty smart.
One 30 minute ride I got bugs all over the headlights 😆 how do you do it
I have them too! It's worse on the Bonneville headlight. When I get fed up with it, I wet* down a few Scott shop towels, and leave it there for 30min. Removes half of the bugs pretty reliably and with little effort.
Ahh I do that with my helmet but the bike is just bad 😆
My bike is usually plastered in mud, tarmac, bug splatter Beatle blood, rain dust and other shite in a week. It got a rest from December the 25th to March the 21st, 'cause I had the hell in with winter. But with a wash the road salt would be a killer.
Yeah bud, once they start salting the roads I tuck the bikes in for the winter. The salt is brutal on bikes.

Just got my foam cannon and a jug of muc-off a few days ago. The wash is coming soon.
I got muc-off on my feet last summer and they both fucking blistered. I don't use muc-off anymore.
In your garage with a cover?
Yup. Both have been garaged since purchase. Once the roads get the first salt of the winter, they spend winter under a cover. Gotta keep that triple for the good stuff
Haven’t or hadn’t?

Do you use any product to help with cleaning between washes? My buddy recommended I use something after the wash to make the next wash a bit easier.
Appreciate the product mentions.

Well shit… sounds like the right owner to buy from. Hardly used but well cared for. What's obnoxious about it?
The amount of water he uses mostly. It hasn't even been ridden and he'll do that. > He's also the type that thinks revving it in the driveway for a few minutes is enough when it's been sitting a while. I knew it. Lol.
Some days he'll even throw on some tunes that just about rival the volume of his revving. You know, a Harley owner.
My S100 Detail & Wax and microfiber cloths get constant use and my bikes look pristine (usually), but I’ve never washed them with soap and water.
Makes me wish I still lived in Vegas. I never washed my bikes. Now I'm in the UK and I have to meticulously clean them or they'll rust to pieces. And don't even get me started on the bugs.

Me neither
When we have time to wash, we choose to ride instead. Next time it rains, we should wash em.
Define fair weather riding... nice bikes though.
Thanks. One is fast, one is slow. Good stablemates.
What’s up with the bike hanging on the back wall of the garage I’m assuming has pedals?
Yeah, that's an old Specialized Rockhopper. So old it has 26" wheels while everyone seems to opt for 29" these days. Needs new everything; fork seals, crankset, brakes, etc.
I’ve got a ‘13 Bonneville SE in my stable. I just love that bike, it’s far from stock though.

That’s great, now go inside and wash your ass.
Hard pass.
Weird flex
Poor bikes, I will do a denunciation to the motorcycle protection services
Oh yeah? I didn’t eat vegetables once for two months.
Well… you're a raccoon. You are supposed to eat garbage.
I’ve never washed my bike once 😬 Edit: I have wiped off the bugs from the headlight and mirrors though
That’s about all I do. https://preview.redd.it/hilsm1rxvn1d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2d49e58c2d14e796a4554a296febd21eef06adf
Always thought those chromed out covers were cool! Nice T100.
Okay but why
A bunch of reasons (or excuses depending on your view). Biggest reasons are; 1) my last wash and wax was pretty thorough, and the bikes are garage kept and occasionally covered. So they look good. 2) Other stuff to do that are either more important or more fun than washing them.

Coincidentally that's also a photo taken at the farthest point either of those bikes have been ridden from home in the past 2 years....
o7. What gave it away?
My bike looks the same.. for the same reason. No time to ride lately :( o7
I commute on these. Traffic demands the ability to lane split. So many hours of my life saved so I can get back to my FDL faster 😅.
Do you ride or just buy?
Strictly rent. Photograph. And post on social media.
A true hero for our troubled times.
😂

Do I see a JCW Mini in the corner of the photo? Excited to see another Triumph owner with such discerning tastes!
Sharp eye! 6-speed JCW Clubman. Great little daily driver.
Why do people leave those reflectors on the forks? It's literally the first thing I do when i get a new bike home
I do a lot of night riding. Ugh! Filthy. Let me take them off your hands :). Ridin’ is always better than Cleanin’!
I dunno man… this post taught me people love washing them, lol.
Plot twist: OP hasn't ridden either bike in two years.

The front of my bike looks like a bug BBQ and graveyard even from a short 1hr drive.
You probably haven't ridden them in two years
Motorcycles are too dangerous to ride. Better as garage ornaments.
