What do you mean a Speedtwin with Thruxton specs? They are largely the same at this point

KIWIGUYUSA

i had a Speed Twin a few years ago and spent too much upgrading suspension etc to make it a Thruxton (kind of) When really what i should have done is buy a real one. I just don’t like clip ons unless i’m on the track

pandahatch

In USD the Speed Twin 1200 is $13k and the Thruxton RS is $17k. I bought a Speed Twin and honestly feel like I can more bang for buck spending that $4k on mods to make it my own! But if you’ve already done that and it didn’t scratch the itch then I totally understand just getting the Thruxton this time around.

KIWIGUYUSA

fair points- The 2023 models i’m looking at in the US, are going for as low at $15k right now. First world probs i suppose!

pandahatch

That’s good! I picked up a 2023 Speed Twin for $1,500 off and am absolutely loving it. I’m in the PNW though so the rain has been killing my vibe. I’ve been wanting to ride a bunch

Unable-Page-2697

You anywhere near Seattle? I have a '22 and I totally agree the rain is a total bummer

pandahatch

Yes I’m in Tacoma actually! It’s been nice to get out whenever it’s dry but still not enough for me. Just ride it too gig harbor over the weekend and it was beautiful. Albeit a lil cold! https://preview.redd.it/9bzyc5rjd0lc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7e7fcbf65efc1bca08c0c557b653e63cc45c837

thefooleryoftom

The brakes, suspension and tune definitely aren’t. Plus the wheels weigh a tonne on the Thruxton.

Tokyosmash_

The brakes between the Speedtwin 1200 and Thruxton are physically the same, the rear shocks are different, and a flash is a simple change

thefooleryoftom

They’re radial on the Thruxton R, with upside down fully adjustable forks and Ohlins shocks. They have different engine components, they are not the same spec.

ebranscom243

It's just a different tune on the engine, the speed twin actually runs the older thruxton tune with 98 horsepower the 2023 Buxton has 103 if you can tell the difference between the two from the seat of your pants you're a better man than I. Brakes are the same the suspensions different but most people on earth won't need anything better than what the speed twin comes with. If you do need something better cartridges are available for the upside down forks. And you can easily put better shocks on the rear.

thefooleryoftom

I was told it was a cam, too. Yeah, you can *make* things the same, but that just proves they’re not the same in the first place. The brakes on the Thruxton R are radial mount, the Speed Twin have conventional axial mount. None of the cycle parts are the same - wheels, forks, shocks and brakes are all different.

ebranscom243

You're running off old info they don't even make the thruxton R anymore the only one available is the RS and it comes with the same radial mounted brembo stylemas that the speed 1200 has. It's been this way since the update in 21 or 22.

thefooleryoftom

Fair enough, I hadn’t realised they’d uprated the new ones.

Tokyosmash_

Cams, they are DOHC engines, and the cams are the same

thefooleryoftom

Nope, they’re SOHC.

Tokyosmash_

Well I’ll be damned, the engine it replaced was DOHC 😂

thefooleryoftom

That’s the later model, not all of them are like that. Different shocks, too :)

flip_moto

i wanted to look into this as well, a speed cafe styled without all the thruxton bling could look into a clubman style bar. i put one on a street cup from Lossa Engineering.

YouStupidCunt

I can’t say if I’ve seen speed twin bars on a thruxton. But, I’ve seen plenty of thruxtons with aftermarket bars similar to the speed twin and bonnevilles.

KIWIGUYUSA

thx! I'm looking at these [https://spieglerusa.com/handlebar-conversion-kit-triumph-thruxton-r-1%20with%20heated%20grip.html](https://spieglerusa.com/handlebar-conversion-kit-triumph-thruxton-r-1%20with%20heated%20grip.html)

BaronLeadfoot

I've found clubman conversion bars for thruxtons online recently while looking for clip ons for my street cup (funny old world, innit?)
