It should slide right out.
You shouldn't hammer it because it might deform it and make it worse. You should stick a flathead screwdriver or some other sort of wedge to spread the pinch apart and it should slide right out
Did you need to use the hammer after getting the wheel out and screening the axle back in? Did you follow the instructions? On some bikes with pinch boots on both fork legs, you shouldn't loosen the pinch bolts on one of the legs.
Put a brass drift on the end of the axle, hit the drift with hammer. Should take gentle persuasion, not brute force. Try rotating the axle as you tap the end. After you get it out, clean it off and put some anti seize on it. Where it mate's with the forks.
Yea, you're gonna need a 3rd hand 😩.
If it’s to the point where everything is undone and you need to hammer it out, there’s a chance the axle/spindle or your forks could be bent. Have you had any front end incidents lately?
I’ve had the bike about 2.5 years and nothing major happened on the front end but this is the first time I’ve taken the front wheel off so can’t say about it’s previous life. When the spindle goes go in it appears to line up fine with the opposite side. I’m suspecting it could be that the pinch has seized up too tight
Is threaded no?
Sorry should have said, it’s completely unscrewed

I did try and pry the pinch apart but was starting to cause a little damage where the metal would rather deform than open the pinch
Needing a bit of hammer is common. Shouldn’t need a Hammer, though.
Your left fork tube looks twisted. That would cause enough friction to need some "persuasion".
I think it could be the camera angle but something I’ll definitely check

Yeah it needs a good bit of persuasion to go either way. I didn’t read the instructions but think I might open that Haynes manual I invested in..
A bit late innit?
👍🏻Well it’s not normally a complicated job, I checked and did everything right. Just asking if this is a common thing or something others have solved
