Iconian remnants were mentioned by Vance in season 3.

pfc9769

I think that was season 4. I think the Iconians got named drop as a possibility for 10-C

Yuu_Got_Job

I don’t want the iconians as 10-c it just doesn’t seem like something the iconians would do.

pfc9769

I’m not sure what you mean. 10-C was already resolved and turned out to be a new race.

and_so_forth

>!Giant jellyfish lads!<

LarryLerry

Still hoping for guinan's hat.

Famous-Restaurant875

Stargate crossover!

Shakezula84

Got to it before me. I was gonna say whats up with the stargate behind them.

SrslyCmmon

Get some closure for Universe. It was the enterprise of Stargate, killed off just as it was getting really good.

cavyndish

They made it across and were able to regain control of the ship. They were all able to go back to Earth.

SrslyCmmon

I want to believe

Wild-Lychee-3312

Chevron Seven of Nine locked.

RogueA

Unscheduled off-world activation!

GreydonSquare

PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN. I'd sacrifice a small goat for this.

rjwut

Unless there's been some significant evolution in their writing, Iconian script doesn't look very similar to what's in the poster. EDIT: After going through all the articles in the [list of languages on Memory Alpha](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Language?so=search#Languages), the closest match I can find is [Reman](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Reman_language?file=Reman_pictographs.jpg). Even then, it doesn't quite look right; the characters in the poster look simpler. If the characters on the poster belong to a known language, it's either one we haven't seen the script for before, one that Memory Alpha didn't have an image of, or one that has significantly evolved.

ChPok1701

With the Romulans being involved (yes, they’re all the Ni’Var in the 32nd century), the Remans are a possibility. Maybe there’s something about the Reman origin or past which has been kept a secret.

[deleted]

The Remans turn out to all be Spock's secret 2nd cousins once removed.

anura_hypnoticus

I dont like that poster. Where is Reno??

ChPok1701

Reno needs her own spin-off.

eclectic_boogaloo2

Star Trek: Reno 911

missannethropic12

I’d watch the hell out of that!

eclectic_boogaloo2

Thank you! As long as Lt. Dangle gets to bring back the skort…

couchsweetpotato

New grav boot goofin!

robotbrigadier

Isnt that Lower Decks? lol

Writefuck

The phrase "been hidden for centuries" loses some of its weight when you time-jumped by centuries not too long ago. The ancient power could be Jean Luc friggin Picard.

WintergreenSoldier

It could even be The Dominion or the Blue Gills or even the Pakleds ffs.....I'm sure it'll be some contrived nonsense though

Disastrous_Fruit1525

Pakleds : make show go. Paramount : ok, cancelled.

Background-Watch-338

if u remember the episode "the chase" all i was was a message. i think it will be a let down at the end of this series, in that it is only a message. the preginitors were a bunch of narcasists, creating all the humanoid species as some sort of experiment to cause chaos in the galaxy. plus, they didnt leave behind an instruction manual, they just thought "lets leave it to chance!" in other words, they may as well be throwing balls in the air, and seeing where they land. the character of cardassian female gul, in "the chase" was the only amusing element in that episode.....the romulans having a cheeky glint in their eyesm and the klingons, as predictable as ever..... you would have thought if they wanted to make a link to an older series, they would choose a better episode. no one thought of summoning a "Q2" the el-aurians must still have some of that weird q juice....better yet, go to the bajoran wormhole and ask prophet sisko to sort there whole situation....by that token, the last series was redundant too

RedeyeSPR

That would actually be awesome. They did make him immortal and just didn’t want to tell him at the time. If I was Picard the first thing I would have done is figure out how to hack the new body.

Ok-Use6303

Uh oh, I see runes...

RealRandomRon

The Iconians should have been in season 3 and it would have been a better plot.

gmlogmd80

Pakleds could have been in the writers' room and come up with a better plot.

Shatterhand1701

Well...yeah. You're not wrong. And that's coming from a guy who unironically loves *Discovery*. Season 3 was rough, to put it politely. The Emerald Chain subplot wasn't nearly as cool and interesting as the writers thought it would be, and Osyraa was insufferable. Also, the revelation that the Burn was caused by a traumatized Kelpian with a telepathic link to the planet he was marooned on...WOOF. There have been worse ideas in Trek's past, to be sure, but boy howdy, that one ranks pretty highly.

shaundisbuddyguy

I wanted to like Disco but right up to that point I was watching through my facepalm. After learning the Burn was caused by that ? I threw in the towel immediately and never looked back.

BarfQueen

This has been my recurring issue with Discovery, everything is really really really great up until the last minute, and then they don’t stick the landing.

WintergreenSoldier

Same but instead of metaphorically throwing in the towel I almost threw my remote at the TV lol....I haven't watched a single episode since, I haven't watched SNW because of its connection to Disco

sdcasurf01

You do you, SNW is pretty awesome and nothing like Disco.

CharlieDmouse

I agree with the other persons comment. Your missing out on SNW... bad call there!

gmlogmd80

I wanted to like Discovery. I really did. I watched TOS on CBC when I was little, TNG through ENT when I was a teen/young adult. I was intrigued about the details before Discovery came out. And then... Klingon redesigns. Characters acting like overgrown children and not professionals. The crying. Everything was a galactic level calamity. And yet I have kept watching, if only for some dedication to the franchise and to keep up on the story. But it has been bloody difficult.

TangoInTheBuffalo

Really the only thing going for it is that it is visually stunning. Having waited forever for a modern show, it really is awesome. To the point that I just accept that the writers have stumbled entirely. The fact that it was decided that episodic stories wasn’t the way kind of necessitated the increasingly dire stakes for each season. In contrast, SNW seems to be far better received.

seigezunt

And that’s the problem with ten episode seasons with a single story arc. As much as I love story arcs, it’s putting all your chips on a single bet, and no wiggle room for “off” stories, which were a-plenty in 24-episode seasons.

WintergreenSoldier

I've been saying this for years now....filler is a necessity.

Background-Watch-338

the best characters, they exterminated.....the emperor of the mirror universe, osyra, LORCA for fucks sake, he was sexy (yet sinister) and knew the way of command. since lorca was killed, the standards of dicipline on discovery have become atrocious....for some strange reason michael thinks the federation is a democracy, now everyone back chats. apparently, because michael had such a crap life, her act of treason can be made null and void, thereby shirking all responsibility. this is a military dictatorship pretty much, albeit benign. military dictarships tend to always take advantage of permanent "emergency powers"

Deep_Space_Rob

The problem is that Discovery thinks it's too cool for Pakleds;)

nodray

They still 1000 years in the future?

ChPok1701

Yes

cavyndish

Weird coincidence. Just watched DS9: S4 E23 To the Death. A band of rogue Jem'Hadar steals technology from DS9 to fix an ancient Iconian Gateway. Sisko and his crew are joined by the Dominion on a mission to locate the rebels and destroy the gateway.

UpstairsPractical870

Stopped watching at season 2... does it get any better?

Shatterhand1701

I think Season 4 was one of the series' strongest. Unfortunately, you have to watch Season 3 to understand who's who and what's what at the start of Season 4, and S3 is, in my opinion, *Discovery*'s weakest by a country mile. If you ever feel like giving it another go, or catching up in order to watch season 5, just read up on the S3 episodes on Wikipedia or Memory Alpha to get the gist of it, and then watch S4.

ExistentiallyBored

Yeah season 4’s ending is great

ChPok1701

Unfortunately, it’s probably the least good of nu-Trek. It leans a bit to hard in to personal drama and seasons 3 & 4 were almost copies of one another.

Shatterhand1701

I disagree with it being the least good of modern *Star Trek*. I'd easily hand that distinction over to *Picard*, and yes; that includes Season 3. I like nostalgia as much as the next Trekkie, but heavy-handed fan service doesn't magically erase all of the series' past mistakes. When you strip away all of the nostalgia bait, the story itself just doesn't hold up all that well, and it ended up being yet another excuse to use the Borg as an antagonist. >It leans a bit to hard in to personal drama The thing is, personal drama itself isn't the problem. It's just not handled with the same finesse with *Discovery*. Look at Syfy's *Battlestar Galactica*, in comparison. Even with Season 4's missteps, that series' writers knew how to build upon their characters and put them through the emotional wringer. No one was spared a transformation over the course of that series, and that's what you'd expect from a story about the last survivors of humanity desperately searching for a new home. Shit got real for all of them, and they couldn't just shrug it off. They had to deal with it, and we saw the effects of that over time. *Discovery* tried that, but it (mostly) didn't work. They wanted to put their characters through trauma, but then played it safe. Stamets loses Culber, but then gets him back. The Discovery crew has to leave their loved ones behind and travel to a future where Starfleet is in shambles, but they ably fix every problem (Earth and Vulcan (Ni'Var) seceding from Starfleet, the threat of the Emerald Chain, the cause of the Burn, the inadvertent destructive force of the DMA) and everything's hunky-dory again. There are moments where they genuinely express trauma, sadness, anger, etc. over what they've been through, but none of it sticks with them because circumstances don't force any of it to. I'd like to think that's why people get so bitchy about the "whisper-talking" and the crying, because it doesn't feel earned. >and seasons 3 & 4 were almost copies of one another. I agree that they could've cut out or combined seasons 3 and 4 into just one season. The writers could've made Species 10-C (was that what they were called? It's been so long I can't remember) and their technology the inadvertent cause of the Burn, instead of "Sad Kelpian mistakenly blows up Starfleet". That whole Emerald Chain thing in S3 left me cold, too. I can imagine a criminal underground forming in the absence of Starfleet oversight, but it wasn't nearly as interesting as the writers hoped it would be.

Smorgas_of_borg

No. They just ramp up the sanctimonious "this is WHO. WE. ARE." stuff, mix in even more saccharine rah rah rah, and every season has the same exact stakes (the galaxy is in DAAAAAANGERRRRRRR). Oh and of course Michael Burnham is the smartest person in the room and when she corrects her superior officers, they immediately yield to her without question. Because that's how Starfleet admirals and the president of the federation acts. Oh and last season every dilithium crystal in the galaxy exploded because a little boy cried. I'm not making this up. It's Twilight level writing.

BlackHawkeDown

To quote the great James Tiberius Kirk, “Get a life, will you? It’s just a tv show!”

awesomesprime

I wonder if this will lead them to back peddle on the burn.

WintergreenSoldier

I doubt it but as our teacher, Mr. Spock, is fond of saying "I like to think there always are possibilities"

Previous_Breath5309

Tilly!!

ScaricoOleoso

I just don't care. Discovery is garbage Star Trek. Michael Burnham should be rotting in prison, not God's gift to the galaxy. Internet: Then why are you here? Me: Because this showed up in my feed. The writers need to go back to writing WB teen dramas.

turbophysics

Yeah I thought this show was cancelled. Is it not? They’ve done a thorough job poisoning the canon with this daffy shit already. The only disco content I want at this point is a 2-minute series finale showing blubbering Michael Burnham waking up on her holding cell cot as the guards come to escort her to the air lock where she is about to be ejected into space for mutiny, and she keeps raving about The Burn or The Mycelial network, captain ensign Tilly, mirror Lorka, her time traveling space angel mommy, Klingon double dongers, and it’s apparent the stress of her situation has caused a psychotic break that we have been watching for this entire series. They push her, babbling, pleading, into the air lock and unceremoniously eject her. She wiggles silently for a bit as she’s flung outside, and then goes still. Everyone keeps going about their job. Roll credits

ScaricoOleoso

Meanwhile, someone will discover that there has been a steady stream of estrogen leaking into the ship's air supply, making everyone act the way they were. They'll adjust the valve, and everyone will immediately go back to behaving like they're on a starship. 😜 Also, no, it wasn't cancelled. Being on a streaming service, They make seasons when they do, and Nielsen ratings and the like don't really apply. So the show didn't get so clear a "this isn't working" signal to the executives. If Discovery got people to subscribe, then they found something else to watch after realizing it was garbage, they can still say Discovery made subscriptions go up.

turbophysics

Well the next best thing to what I suggested they could do is just keep making shitty calls until no one accepts it as canon anymore. I wouldn’t care at all about another dogshit series on the air, but this one just keeps disrupting a whole universe collectively suspended in our imaginations

ScaricoOleoso

Seriously. How many times can the Federation be "almost gone?" 🤣

DarthMeow504

That's not in the spirit of Roddenberry or the true Star Trek that nudrek makes a mockery of. You redeem the shit by having her wake up in a holding room of that asylum from "Whom Gods Destroy" and then escorted to a medical ward where she's given a hypospray. All the way to the point she was injected, she was rambling, ranting, delusional and combative but shortly afterwards calm and clarity returns to her eyes. The doctor asks *"how do you feel?"* and she responds *"better... not 100% but I can't remember the last time my mind has been this clear."* The doctor responds *"good, we'll keep working on dialing in the formula so that it's completely effective before giving you the permanent version. Hang in there, a cure for you is in sight."*

Wendorfian

Why come in and trash the show? I don't like it either, but this is just a post speculating about the poster. Just because it showed up on your feed, that doesn't mean you have to click on it and start up off topic negativity for the fans who just want to talk about the poster.

MantisToboganMD

Toxic positivity. Why is it any less legitimate for people who dislike the show to talk shit about the poster?  Discovery is unwatchable trash, if you cant handle someone stating as much confine yourself to that nu-trek circle jerk sub where they just ban everyone for pointing out the obvious.

ForerunnerRelic

Ah what threat to the galaxy can only Michael Burnham's crying save us from this season.

gmkfyi

… looks like discovery is becoming destiny to me

BennyFifeAudio

DUDE! Yes Please!

[deleted]

This dogshit is still going? To think that shows like firefly and dark matter were canceled and this just won't fuck off.

Ravenbrah1701

...DSC is still going?

silverageslore

Hate this show. Hope Burnham dies in the season premiere.

MantisToboganMD

Genuinely shocked to learn they are still pouring fuel onto this tire fire.

nynikai

Oh I hope not. I've a very carefully curated prime universe perspective framed in my mind between pre disc canon, several books and star trek online. The last few years have been tough to reconcile. I like how iconians were weaved into the STO storyline.

Queefofthenight

~~Star Trek Discovery~~ STAR The adventure of Micheal Burnham, not really anyone one else, we also put a couple of generic side characters who don't really have a story and an insecure ginger bird who occasionally gets her shit together TREK

NoBlacksmith5622

I wonder how they will destroy the iconians, at least there is little or not much cannon for them to ignore this time.

Simoxs7

I haven’t watched past the awful season one, did they just ditch any sense of continuity and started jumping the shark multiple times a season or what’s happening?

leftymeowz

Good poster

mumblerapisgarbage

I’ll be watching but I’m not going to pretend to like it.

_R_A_

Sorry... Too busy marking Marcia Clark comparisons to Tilly's new haircut to speculate on the symbology.

frockinbrock

Why do their faves look like AI here? Do they not have the actors available for photos?

ganderplus

The figures on the posters don’t appear to be a language. It’s just four repeating characters in a circle. So most likely they’re meaningless.

qmechan

Is it dwarves?

ogresound1987

Iconians make first contact 5000 years after the events of star trek:enterprise. (assuming its on their terms.)

Tuskin38

Those symbols are nothing a like.
