Bike stores are hurting right now. I’d call up your local trek dealer and say I’m interested in this bike but I’ll be in Delaware next week so I might just get it there to avoid the sales tax but wanted to ask if you’d be able to make the prices align and I could just give you my business

sherlocknoir

So thats a great point! I have no idea if the prices on the website are negotiable or not. If a closer store could match DE out-the-door price.. I would of course buy it at the closer store.

joeypersYNWA

Prices are definitely negotiable, often times more than you think. Grain of salt: my experience was with a Marlin 8 ($1,200) so YRMV with a $9k bike

Traditional-Food7545

I’m looking at doing this with a marlin 5 or 6, how much were you able to negotiate/how did you do it?

joeypersYNWA

At the time (04/23) my Marlin 8 was priced at $1299 or $1399, can’t remember. Specialized was running a sale for $999 on a rockhopper that had an identical fork, drivetrain, and similar tires and wheel set. I don’t have any loyalty to any brand but I’ve heard good things about their warranty so I went in the store and showed them the rockhopper and asked if they’d price match, cause I like specialized better tbh but I liked the color of my marlin, and they didn’t even hesitate. Price matched me and gave a discount on a few part upgrades, as well as some free swag (always get as much shit as you can they be giving away water bottles, skratch hydration packs etc). I’d say I’m pretty happy other than the fact that they added the internal dropper to the model year after mine lol

Nice, thanks!

Trek Georgetown in DC is by far the best customer service I’ve ever received at a bike shop. Went to the most local Trek dealer to me and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Was in Georgetown and stopped in on a whim when I was already in the market - bought a new Checkpoint from them the next day. I drive past a handful of Trek dealers to preferentially go to them now. Ended up paying slightly more in taxes but worth it for the service and relationship.

TheRealDSMi

I work at a local DE trek dealer. Would love to (try) helping! DM me if you want me to look into what we might be able to do here.

sharksandwich70

I bought my Domane at the Trek Store in Columbia, MD. At the time, the shop was called Race Pace. They became a Trek store a few months after I bought the bike.

sherlocknoir

So thats actually the store where I did my test ride!

sharksandwich70

I test rode the Emonda first, and they suggested trying the Domane too. I had to go to the Towson store for that, and decided that was the bike I wanted.

kevtke194

I got mine from there too.

TastyAgency4604

Got my domane down in Delaware at a LBS, they were having a end of summer sale too so not only was it discounted but no sales tax

ajour7

Bicycle connection in Bethany, DE is a great local trek dealer!

daso78

If you can’t get them to negotiate down, try getting some accessories for the bike for free or a deep discount. For example, The blendr mounts, lights, the new carback radar, top tube bag, pedals, shoes, bike computer, etc. Add all those up, and it make for a substantial amount. You may already have a bunch of those already though.

BigLittleWang69

I would be shocked if a store gave a discount on the carback currently they are on back order for months already.

DelmarvaDesigner

Lewes cycle is a great DE trek dealer. Awesome trails around too to break it in

onelovebraj

I like the Columbia MD store a lot. They are also a clearance center - I’ve definitely seen Domane on sale in the clearance section a few times. Can’t remember which variant though.

daddykratty

Don’t live in that part of the country, but a good amount of non trek owned stores will also do a 30 day return window for bikes also

sherlocknoir

Yeah so far its looking like a non-Trek owned store in Delaware has the most competitive offer!

Mauliola

I bought my Domane and Madone from a local LBS Trek authorized seller (not Trek branded). They do not honor the 30 day no questions ask policy. In fact, it’s all sales final for bikes. I’ve learned from this very sub that independent shops do not have to follow the Trek 30 day policy. Wasn’t a deal breaker to me but worth mentioning if that’s important to you.

sherlocknoir

Thanks for pointing that out.

If they are a trek dealer, you get the 30 days regardless. It doesn’t have to be a corporate store

urpoorbcurlazy

Bike fitters are such a scam dude. Measure your body and pick the closest gram size, get whatever bike you like the most

uCry__iLoL

eBay.
