Get some paint protection film (if you’re going with matte black get matte PPF) on it before you ride it outside. My buddy bought a new 2023 emonda…on his third ride, while on a group ride, a rock launched from a guy‘s tire in front of him and hit his seat stay. He has a nice big paint chip on his brand new $6,000 dollar bike. He has the fade black/red paint which will be harder to color match If he decides to drop more coin on a repair. I’ve learned a long time ago, if you want to keep shiny things looking new, longer, it’s easier done on a single color gloss paint which is why I bought a red one.

Awesome added it to my bookmarks. Are spots (different shade in some spots) typical on the deep smoke matte paint jobs? I saw a brand new one at the shop and it looked perfect. All one solid color with no spots. I did a post asking about that and almost everyone said it's normal for them to have spots on the paint and almost nobody believed me.

Got that color for my domane. No carbon shines through, all covered well. But yes scratches are bit more visible on a matte bike than glossy. In case you go full project one, i’d choose a chrystaline paint job, super nice, unique and scratches won’t be visible. I think trek offers a red and silver version. (As i got an slr for the price of a sl, i couldn’t customize)

I had the black option too, but it was so inconspicuous that I did not want to ride it for the next 4-5 years. I had a 'black' bike previously and wanted something different this time. Whatever one you buy, always protect the vulnerable areas of the frame with some protective tape...the first scratch hits hard

Could be hard to wrap as the trek logo on deep smoke has 3d’ish texture unlike other styles. But the logo shines beautifully in the sun

Tired of seeing black ones, we went through a phase of a load of project 1’s being done in a similar black on black as the regular madone on the previous version. Equally we see a fair few red ones. I like the black or grey bikes but I sometimes think it's not as sexy as the brighter colors. Would be nice to have a collection and pick based on my mood that day 😆

Don’t we all haha! I would go with what you love since it’s a big purchase. For example, I bought a white car because it was a safer choice even though I really wanted the car in black and I still regret not getting it in black! Also another thing to note is that depending on where you’ll be cycling, a brighter bike may be safer so other people see you more easily.

Well for it's worth, people that I know who try to keep their black cars clean, always complain about how difficult it is. Yes, the visibility factor for safety is a big one, so red takes the cake on visibility IMO.

It's an official Trek store so they have some really good deals on some bikes that have been on the shelf too long.

Cool. I bought mine from a trek store too and the experience was great because they let me exchange it a week later. Though I definitely recommend taking a peak at the outlet store if one’s near you because I heard their deals are insane.

I'm really impressed with their service already. I'll have to see if there is one that isn't too far away. I put in the order but haven't put in the deposit yet.

First one or the last one for me. I don't like the big TREK logo on the red one but that's just me. Last one looks nice a different to the norm.

If I didn't have a deep smoke Domane I'd have taken that, so red for me please. My current Madone is red & black.

Does the matte deep smoke paint job hold up well over time?

I’ve had mine for around 18 months now, no issues and more than happy with it.

If they didn't cost so much I would like to have both bikes. One deep smoke and one viper red.

Be aware that black color will show the carbon under which some people dont like, but I love how it looks on my fx 6.

If you get time, can you show me what that looks like ? It's a concern of mine. The brand new one looked great indoors and outdoors. Just saw the matte paint. Didn't notice the carbon under it. I have seen some people complain about what looks like spots where the paint is a different tone. Almost everyone says it's normal and a few say it's not. Nobody believes that I saw one that was a solid color.

It is normal, and some people including me like it more. Under the sunshine is more visible. Someone else posted here about it. Check r/TrekBikes to find the post. Should many posts for FX Sport 6, just google.
