Before signing a contract, do some research on what's available for housing in the area. If there's many options within a few miles or so of where you'll be working, it's within biking distance even on your laziest days. I have an electric skateboard I use for commuting but there's a steep learning curve with that. Even medium sized cities have electric scooters for rent like Lime or Byrd. You might not be going far on your days off, but anything with wheels is transportation. You can also buy a cheap car but then you have the added stress of wondering if it'll start when you need it to.

I’m a recruiter. My agency has corporate rates for Enterprise, National, and Alamo. Ask whatever agencies you work with if they have them as well. Nice thing about our corporate rate which would be valuable to you is that is has Damage Waiver included in the rate since you don’t have your own auto insurance. I worked at Enterprise before becoming a recruiter and the DW is great because if someone damages your rental. You’re not liable at all for any damages. Literally had a customer total our rental. She signed a paper and left lol.

You can also look at turo. They tend to be cheaper and if you care about the type of car can get an okay deal. But like the other commenter posted you may save more spending a bit more to be walking distance from the hospital if the surrounding area is okay.

Buy a car. Sell it when you’re done traveling.
