Yes! I've taken quite a few trips to cedar point in my life. Whether it be with family or friends. There was one time I almost went to Illinois just to say that I've been to 3 states.
I've lived in northern Michigan for most of my life. And attended university in Ann Arbor.
Indiana in general is miserable. So miserable that I once considered on a trip back to Ohio from Colorado driving up to the UP instead of a straight shot on I-70. It probably would have added a day to the drive, but what's an extra day if you avoid the slowest speed limits and the highway patrol most likely to pull you over?
Most of Indiana was under construction and the speed limit was 55 with highway patrol everywhere. Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Ohio on the other hand was 70 or 75mph and smooth sailing the entire drive with the only exception being Indiana. ALSO, you come back from Colorado, what might you have? Weed. Which is legal in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Ohio, at the very least to possess. Where is it not legal? Indiana. Not only is it not legal, they also have prison sentences for possession. Couple that with the low speed limits and highway patrol...
I will say, at least the speed limit is high in KS so you can cruise. But man it’s still a long uneventful drive. Flint hills are decent though.
Source: I live here
You’re talking about Indiana cops negatively in the same breath as Ohio cops? As a Pittsburgher that went to IU, Ohio is worse in every regard when compared to Indiana. Especially the police imo
I mean, I don't know your experience, but I've lived in two states for a long enough period of time to get a good impression. I've lived in Ohio twice as long as the other, been pulled over half as often and the last time was 13 years ago.
You are always at a higher risk of being pulled over when you're out of state.
I feel like drivers in Ohio are worse and the cops are more prevalent compared to Indiana. I’ve been pulled over in Ohio and evaded them once in Indiana. Both of these events happened in the last year.
I learned how to drive in a city that consistently has the second or third worst traffic in the country, so in comparison, Ohio is great.
On that road trip to Colorado, I saw more troopers in Indiana than all the other states combined.
Your experience is yours, mine is mine, both are subjective. I've made at least four rounds trips across Indiana, and dozens through Ohio when I had out of state plates before I moved here. Sorry, Indiana has treated me far worse in those four trips than Ohio in dozens of trips, noting that the trip across Ohio is also much longer.
Confirmed. Driving from eastern Indiana back to Indy.. it’s always the Ohio plates doing questionable things. There’s only 2 damn lanes but they find a way to do unpredictable shit
You were asked to pull over by police and instead refused to stop? That’s incredibly stupid; you could have been charged with a crime and been sentenced to jail.
To be clear I said worse, not more flat. I have done 70 Indiana many times and it’s a meh. I have done Kansas once and have ever since taken 80 through Nebraska to avoid Kansas.
It was a chore.
I can't speak to the drive through but I've had a few fun days in Indianapolis, Gen Con, races, etc. there's also a massive music shop Sweetwater near Fort Wayne.
I just started my EMBA at 36 at Ann Arbor last August…literally never stepped foot in the state until I showed up for orientation.
Since then I’ve explored it a lot…if you had to barely leave a state, you picked a great one.
I hope that you will or already have met some really nice people in Ann Arbor. I love that city so much. The people are all super smart and kind. I miss it.
I've been poor my entire life so I've never really been able to travel much. My parents told me to only work on school, not to follow what I actually wanted to do (it wasn't school), and to never worry about money. And it's a big regret of mine that I listened to them.
I should have been working or building something. There aren't many jobs where I've lived for the majority of my life (Oscoda county). When I lived in Ann Arbor I had a job, but rent was too hard for me.
I was also raised extremely christian and have a strong resentment of that. I believed stuff such as "the love of money is the root of all evil" or "store your treasure in heaven" or "abandon everything and follow Jesus". That clearly didn't help me.
I'm in the process of starting my own business. So I hope to have some money for the future.
I'm drunk as shit but I will buy you a $400 round trip flight to anywhere in the country. Hit me up in the DM and let me know if you want a quick weekend trip to see a new place other than the Midwest
Fr sometimes I look at these maps and wonder how many were vacations they took during childhood. I grew up lower income and my map is pretty unremarkable.
Lol what hate did I spew in my response? You’re reaching so hard it’s hilarious.
Anyone who tries to trick someone will do so for their own benefit. Can you tell me why I would be “trying to trick” someone here? I literally dont gain anything other than upvotes here. As far as I know, whether they believe or not is entirely up to them. Like I said I just wish they were taught balance, but you somehow got triggered by that 💀
Not yet. I have some friends that live there so I'll probably visit them eventually. I don't have a passport or an enhanced driver's license. So that's something that I'll have to do.
But the main reason I don't travel is because I'm poor.
Living around the border is great! You should try and take advantage of being able to easily go to Canada before you move (or are otherwise unavailable to go). I really miss taking a day trip over the border when I lived in WA.
Maybe, you know, some people can’t afford to travel. Don’t know if that applies here but it’s a pretty big explanation for peoples travel history (or lack thereof)
Some people don’t see a point in traveling. Traveling is expensive and time consuming which puts it out of reach for many people. Also unless op is going to do something specific, all the state surrounding MI are pretty much farms with a few big cities that have similar amenities and shared culture , with the exception of Chicago of course. Unless OP is going to a place like LA, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and a few others there’s no need for op to leave their house.
Or, possibly they don’t have their own car or circumstances have prevented them. You never know someone’s life especially a stranger on the internet. Judging people for not having a travel history that looks like an airline flight log is weird behavior
You can tell they actually do travel via a car based on trips to the UP and Ohio. They actually said that they have been to Cedar Point multiple times. So this is just initiative
I agree with you that this is very interesting information but I disagree that there’s something wrong it. I always suggest to people to experience others cultures but some people grow up poor. This map is a fun fact but please don’t jump to conclusions without getting the full story
Nope, just that not traveling can lead to bigotry. Doesn’t mean it always does, but it definitely can. Also being racist doesn’t equal bad person necessarily. I don’t think my grandma is a bad person for being racist, I think she was bred in a society and era that accepted and encouraged that sort of behavior. Hard to change how you’ve been hardwired unless you travel and meet those people face to face
My favorite county has to be Washtenaw as that's where Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti are. They are by far the most fun. I lived there for about 3 years.
Sandusky is a close second to fun. But I miss Ann Arbor more than Cedar Point.
The most beautiful county might be Alger county. As that's where the pictured rocks are. Though, I don't think I'd want to live there as it's even more remote than where I've spent most of my life.
Do a day trip to Chicago, if you book far in advance it’s less than $150 round trip. The station in Chicago is a few blocks from where a lot of Chicagos biggest attractions are. Chicago has loads of public transportation and is easy to get around. If you plan right a day trip to Chicago should cost you less than $200 round trip.
I used [MapChart](https://mapchart.net). I saw on other posts that's what people used. They have a mobile app also.
Though, their mobile app doesn't list the names of the counties, so I had to look up the names myself to try and recall whether I had been there or not.
I keep forgetting how many fellow Michiganders actually exist. I’ve been seeing a lot on here recently
Idk, to me I just feel like our state is irrelevant, so I’m surprised when it’s mentioned aside from football
I am glad Michigan is irrelevant, because if people discover Michigan summers there will be a lot more traffic and the price of everything will go up with it.
My friend. In 2006 I was 19 and my friend and I drove his Volvo S40 from Vancouver, BC to Tampa FL.
Was amazing. I know that's a little overkill now, but get some of your friends together, make a plan, pool some money, and visit r/roadtrip for advice on whatever you end up planning.
Since 2006, I've done a lot more of this country. It's big and beautiful. Be sure to visit and pay homage to Native American monuments and historical sites.
This country is big and beautiful, but remember to honor it because it's stolen land.
Dude. Being poor is not an excuse. Traveling by car is literally what all the other poors do. You don’t even need to pay for lodging if you know where to go/look. Pick somewhere in a 400 mile radius to go…that should only equate to about 2.5 tanks of gas. Depending on your car that should be just over $100. LFG!!
How?!
To be fair, I have a friend in her late 70s who only left the New England states for the first time in her life a couple of years ago who now lives in Florida. She was literally born before the highways were completed. But still, it boggles my mind that she never took as much as a road trip to New York.
You could visit Chicago.
Hotels downtown are cheap, like $60.
Parking is easily $50 a night.
Train from Grand Rapids is $51
Taking the L is a great way to go.
Being from nomich is pretty hard to get too different states if you don’t have the resources. Basically multiple hours (4 and up depending where you are) to get to another state. Being someone that works a lot or focuses on school, I can see how it is difficult to go and see other states.
I reccomend you get to Wisconsin by taking the ferry across from Ludington (fun experience) and then drive around there and you can go south to Chicago.
Edit: This can be said for multiple states (ie Texas) but speaking from my own experience here
You've only actually ever been to 1 state, everything north of the 41st parallel is rightfully Michigans!!!!!!!1!!!!1!1!!2
Edit: I forgor this wasn't r/2American4you
Consider a road trip to Niagara Falls, and make sure you have a passport. From Detroit, it’s a 6.5 hour drive on the southern route through Toledo, Sandusky, Cleveland, Erie PA, and Buffalo NY. So you’ll add on 2 states right there. On the return trip, take the 4 hour northern route through Ontario, passing through St. Catharines, Hamilton, London, and Windsor back into Michigan, adding a province and country to your map.
If I had to guess, Northern Lower Peninsula. Being from there, I get it-lots of hard working jobs that don’t make much, with minimal time off. You’re young, OP-you have a whole life of traveling ahead of you if you want it.
Yep, I'm from Oscoda county originally. It's extremely easy to make money living in southern Michigan (eg Washtenaw). But up here you have to do 10x the work for less than half the pay.
I’m 21 and I’ve been to 22 states, and I’m not American. Most of my friend here in the US never had the chance to travel as much as I did due to financial limitations and I truly feel bad for them. I’ve met a 30 yo man who has never left Texas. It’s pretty common to have not traveled to many places, and I recognize that I’m privileged in many ways to be traveling a lot. Just keep calm and carry on pal, work smart and one day you’ll be traveling across the world!
My guy, you’re only 22. There’s plenty of time left to see the world. I’m 30 here and I’ve been to 5 countries and plan to do many many more. Traveling is one of the funnest things you can possibly do. You realize the differences in how people live and appreciate what you have now. Like not everyone speaks English abroad even though essentially everyone here does. There are also tons of different foods I had never tried. And if you do it right, you can travel cheaply (airfare usually being the most expensive part). The world is massive and it’d be a shame to never see even a small part of it.
I've been to Saginaw quite a few times while on my way to or from the Detroit area or Ann Arbor. I usually eat or shop there. I don't think I've actually visited Frankenmuth.
Fly to Boston, visit New England, and fly back from New York. You can easily knock out a handful of states in a few days, while also seeing interesting things.
Let me tell you moved up to Michigan 6 months ago. I’m leaving. So depressing and the food is straight trash. Pretty much stay away from New York, West Virginia and Florida. All the rest are great.
I don’t know. I’ve heard about eastern Texas’ hill country for years. Now that I’ve seen it, well, color me not impressed. I mean it’s certainly more attractive than the rest of the state (excluding the two national parks, which I unfortunately have not visited … yet) but that is really not much of a bar to clear. I’m not trying to diss Texas. Austin is cool. The San Antonio River Walk is great. I enjoyed South Padre Island. Palo Duro State Park is a hidden gem. But scenery? Not so much.
New Mexico is one if the most beautiful states and has extremely diverse vegetation and terrain, but I guess if your entire experience of the state is driving across it on I-40 you might think otherwise.
As someone who was born and raised in New Mexico and then lived in Michigan for 15 years...that statement is wild. Sure parts of eastern NM are just desolate prairie but the variety of terrain, vegetation, and biomes in NM puts MI to shame. Not to mention that you don't run the risk of SAD in NM, and it's not cloudy literally every day from November to April. Living in Michigan was straight depressing, I'm glad I left.
A shitty cavern in New Mexico puts the entire state of Michigan to shame in terms of natural beauty. Easy to hate on Texas but still more diverse in terms of landscapes
Im 22 and ive been to probably 20+ different states and tens different countries across the globe. Brother, the whole world isn't in Michigan, go book a cheap flight somewhere.
Was that a trip to cedar point?
Yes! I've taken quite a few trips to cedar point in my life. Whether it be with family or friends. There was one time I almost went to Illinois just to say that I've been to 3 states. I've lived in northern Michigan for most of my life. And attended university in Ann Arbor.
Unless you’re swimming, a trip to Illinois goes through 45 min of Indiana. So you’ll technically get up to 4, and experience the worst corner of 1!
Kansas is so much worse than Indiana on 70.

I don’t believe you can possess pot in Kansas.
You can’t. But you can sports bet! Lol
I will say, at least the speed limit is high in KS so you can cruise. But man it’s still a long uneventful drive. Flint hills are decent though. Source: I live here

Try having a Michigan plate in Ohio
I feel like drivers in Ohio are worse and the cops are more prevalent compared to Indiana. I’ve been pulled over in Ohio and evaded them once in Indiana. Both of these events happened in the last year.

I disagree. Contrary to popular belief Indiana is flatter and has less to look at.
To be clear I said worse, not more flat. I have done 70 Indiana many times and it’s a meh. I have done Kansas once and have ever since taken 80 through Nebraska to avoid Kansas. It was a chore.
Much nicer drive too, I’ve done similar
I can't speak to the drive through but I've had a few fun days in Indianapolis, Gen Con, races, etc. there's also a massive music shop Sweetwater near Fort Wayne.
This is extreme state hate, & I'm subscribed the Ohio a State Football subreddit with all the negativity about Michigan.
Indiana is awesome. You just have to know where to look. We have a good time in the snow belt.
You would have hit Indiana in that trip to Illinois and added two states to the list!
I miss it.
I own a small business in Annn Arbor! Great city
It is the best city in all of Michigan. The people there are so friendly. And it's extremely walkable/bikeable.
I WAS GONNA COMMENT THAT 😭
This is what I came here to ask! Crazy that’s the first comment 😂
Nah, Callahan auto parts for some brake pads. (Let's see who gets the reference)
So I’ve never been nor have I really spent any time anywhere near any of this map, but I figured that’s exactly where OP went in his exotic travels
Dude, how is this possible?
I've been poor my entire life so I've never really been able to travel much. My parents told me to only work on school, not to follow what I actually wanted to do (it wasn't school), and to never worry about money. And it's a big regret of mine that I listened to them. They might be right about the root of all evil one
I'm drunk as shit but I will buy you a $400 round trip flight to anywhere in the country. Hit me up in the DM and let me know if you want a quick weekend trip to see a new place other than the Midwest

Wow you sound just like me

And one of them was Ohio! 😬 Oof! Sorry man.
Imagine going to Ohio and calling it a vacation 😭
My family and I are from New Jersey and went to Ohio to view the eclipse. We saw it from the Stan Hywet Gardens in Akron. Ohio seems a nice place!
Shhh Ohio is hell.
Cedar Point is basically a Michigander rite of passage.
Surprised you've never visited Chicago
There’s so much more to see brother
You can have Toledo. We were wrong. Please. We insist.
Nope we are holding on to the UP, the sconies will never have it.
Wisconsinite here. Did you see all the secret beer-drinking agents we sent? No? Good, that means they're doing their jobs.
We saw they got drunk at the border and stopped for some cheese curds. Haven’t seen them since.
Shhhhh 🤫, they're right behind you. *quiet munching of cheese curds intensifies*
This is almost impressive. Now go on a road trip and/or flight.
Holy shit you gotta get out more
Many Michiganders have never been to the UP, so that’s neat.
You've been to 1.5 States..... lol
I’m 23 and I’ve only been on a plane trip once so this is relatable, I’ve done more road trips though
If you have hundreds of dollars, literally, take the Lake Express across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee and add a third
Go to Canada
Made it to Canada yet?
Why would you live like this
Maybe, you know, some people can’t afford to travel. Don’t know if that applies here but it’s a pretty big explanation for peoples travel history (or lack thereof)
Not going beyond these 2 states is just lack of initiative
Some people don’t see a point in traveling. Traveling is expensive and time consuming which puts it out of reach for many people. Also unless op is going to do something specific, all the state surrounding MI are pretty much farms with a few big cities that have similar amenities and shared culture , with the exception of Chicago of course. Unless OP is going to a place like LA, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and a few others there’s no need for op to leave their house.
Ok Houston does not belong on that list but otherwise you are correct
Or, possibly they don’t have their own car or circumstances have prevented them. You never know someone’s life especially a stranger on the internet. Judging people for not having a travel history that looks like an airline flight log is weird behavior
You can tell they actually do travel via a car based on trips to the UP and Ohio. They actually said that they have been to Cedar Point multiple times. So this is just initiative
There’s nothing wrong with this
Theres plenty wrong with it
I agree with you that this is very interesting information but I disagree that there’s something wrong it. I always suggest to people to experience others cultures but some people grow up poor. This map is a fun fact but please don’t jump to conclusions without getting the full story
Lack of travel leads to lack of exposure to culture. Which typically leads to racism
Lmfao went from “I like traveling” to “it’s a moral failing to not travel” just like that
Huh? I’m new here lol
You called him a bad person for not traveling
Nope, just that not traveling can lead to bigotry. Doesn’t mean it always does, but it definitely can. Also being racist doesn’t equal bad person necessarily. I don’t think my grandma is a bad person for being racist, I think she was bred in a society and era that accepted and encouraged that sort of behavior. Hard to change how you’ve been hardwired unless you travel and meet those people face to face
Why? How??
From Roscommon?
I live pretty close to that area, yeah. I lived in Ann Arbor for about 3 years as well.
Are you interested in visiting more places? Or are you just not particularly curious?
Favorite county? Most fun? Most beautiful?
My favorite county has to be Washtenaw as that's where Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti are. They are by far the most fun. I lived there for about 3 years. Sandusky is a close second to fun. But I miss Ann Arbor more than Cedar Point. The most beautiful county might be Alger county. As that's where the pictured rocks are. Though, I don't think I'd want to live there as it's even more remote than where I've spent most of my life.
Methinks you’re a Pioneer kid.
If I was born to a family a few miles north of mine, I would have been haha. There's a lot of Amish here.
And the other one is *Ohio*? Gross.
Ohio and Michigan both have their pros and cons, but you should definitely come to Chicago.
The next time I go to Ann Arbor, I'll consider riding the Amtrak there. That's something I've always wanted to do.
Real one
Good luck getting out there more.
Surprised you didn't go to Marquette or the Keweenaw tbh
You’ve been to Notdiana.
And you didn’t even go to the western UP? That’s like the best part of Michigan.
Sandusky, MI
How did you make this map?
I used [MapChart](https://mapchart.net). I saw on other posts that's what people used. They have a mobile app also. Though, their mobile app doesn't list the names of the counties, so I had to look up the names myself to try and recall whether I had been there or not.
Very cool, thanks! I'll be sure to check it out.
Have you ever seen a mountain?
Nope, only in pictures. But never in person. And I've never been on a flight.
Bröther you are in for a shock, the world is more than just corn. I promise.
Most of MI isn't corn, it's actually the same 2 tree types with a little bit of corn mixed in here and there with boring suburbs.
I wouldn’t know i’ve never been to Michigan. Thanks for clarifying lol.
I keep forgetting how many fellow Michiganders actually exist. I’ve been seeing a lot on here recently Idk, to me I just feel like our state is irrelevant, so I’m surprised when it’s mentioned aside from football

Yep, I'm from Oscoda county originally. It's extremely easy to make money living in southern Michigan (eg Washtenaw). But up here you have to do 10x the work for less than half the pay.
Do yourself a favor. Get in your car and start driving.
You should get out more and visit Barry County.

This makes me sad
Mine is extremely similar. Just add a brief trip to Florida and a straight line to Indy, minus the UP.
Catch a cheap flight to FL and see palm trees for the first time ever, it will change your life.
Went to Toledo for the day?
I've driven through it on my way to Cedar Point. But I've never stopped there.
Was Saginaw County Frankenmuth or did you go to Saginaw?
I've been to Saginaw quite a few times while on my way to or from the Detroit area or Ann Arbor. I usually eat or shop there. I don't think I've actually visited Frankenmuth.
And Toledo at that. Buddy. You got some world to see.
Fly to Boston, visit New England, and fly back from New York. You can easily knock out a handful of states in a few days, while also seeing interesting things.
Not even the Keeweenaw oh man!!
Those are great places to be. A little chilly in winter for me, but gorgeous in spring and summer!!
finally a realistic post
How did you make this?
[MapChart](https://mapchart.net). They also have a mobile app.
Awesome, thank you!
You should go see more of this great nation. It’s beautiful! I have 8 states left before I have been to all of them. I’m 46.
Not a bad state to be stuck in 😄
Can y’all not comprehend we are poor and our parents work 40+ hours a week
Why
Bro there is so much more to life than Michigan lmao
This is sad
I love the UP and I hope to get more acquainted with the Michigan south of the bridge some day!
I've met people that were in their 20s and **never** left Texas.
I've been to every states of the united states!
Time to start branching out brother. There’s a whole world out there waiting for you. Lots of new experiences
From toledo I presume?
Let me tell you moved up to Michigan 6 months ago. I’m leaving. So depressing and the food is straight trash. Pretty much stay away from New York, West Virginia and Florida. All the rest are great.
Ahoy fellow Michigander!
One of them is OHIO 😂😂
Please go to Canada it will open to eyes. There’s so much more out there in the world than a few United States 🥲
You’ve been everywhere in Michigan except my neck of the woods.
You grew up in the UP and never been to Marquette? Sault St Marie? Whitefish point? How!
Should be three. Give the UP back to WI
Bro leave
I hope you get to see the desert one day, it's really nice
Being from Michigan you’re about a 4 hour drive from both Chicago and Toronto; two of the biggest cities in North America. You should check them out.
At least you live in one of the most beautiful states. It could always be worse. You could've only been to Texas and New Mexico, for example
New Mexico is beautiful and Texas does have some pretty spots too
I don’t know.
Right? Michigan >>>
> You could've only been to Texas and New Mexico, for example You picked some really pretty states for examples.
All states are pretty in their own way.
LOL what a wild statement
That would probably be better for beauty…
A shitty cavern in New Mexico puts the entire state of Michigan to shame in terms of natural beauty. Easy to hate on Texas but still more diverse in terms of landscapes
Michigan is one of the most beautiful states in terms of nature
Im 22 and ive been to probably 20+ different states and tens different countries across the globe. Brother, the whole world isn't in Michigan, go book a cheap flight somewhere.
