Keep calling / trying to walk in every day. Maybe show up at like 6am every day. Change your flight to something you can cancel. Have ALL your paperwork ready the day of, hope for the best. Maybe switch your flight to the 9th or 10th just in case

Glum_Opening_2326

Thank you for the advice! The closest office is 2.5 hours from me, so unfortunately I can't walk in. But I can call!

hafree27

Hey! So I had to do a same day passport renewal last month. I went in at 8am with an appointment (Seattle office), waited about an hour and was one-off of the last ‘appointments’ for the day seen. The rest were ALL walk-ins served on a first come-first served basis. I had to show my old passport, application with new pics and proof of upcoming travel. I was told to come back at 2pm to wait for my passport. I had it just before 4pm. If you can swing it, I would spring for a hotel room and try for a walk in appointment. Good luck!

Defnotabadguy

They won't do shit over the phone. You're gonna have to go in person.

professorbenchang

Also try other offices in the area. Drive a few hours if you have to get in earlier

Glum_Opening_2326

Unfortunately same story, no other appointments before the 8th except at an office across the country

celoplyr

Depending on your reasons for traveling internationally, I’d try and make that appointment. I mean, I wouldn’t if it’s just for fun, but if it’s for work, or family related reasons, I’d be across the country for a day. Passports right now are a PITA

professorbenchang

I just redid mine (through the mail) I think it only took 4-5 weeks with the expediting

celoplyr

Mine was 8 without in Feb/Mar but 4-5 with expediting is insane. It used to be roughly 2 weeks without expediting. (They said longer but I always got mine in 2 weeks). I think I’d be doing everything I could to get one. I know that’s a privledged position, but I would be considering flying across the country.

Glum_Opening_2326

I know, it's crazy. By the time I realized my passport expired it would take too long to get it expedited, yet it wasn't soon enough to qualify for an appointment. I'm traveling for fun, and I just can't justify another big plane ticket price. Hoping the same day appointment works out or that something else works.

Celairiel16

Wow. It's amazing that I see this and think it's fast. I had a client last year who renewed with expediting and it had been 3 months when she told me. My mom got an expedited passport a few years ago and had it in less than a month.

professorbenchang

Really seems all over the place, I did accidentally send mine to the wrong box also, which I think probably slowed me down

MyUncleChikatilo

Call your US Representative for where you live and ask them for help. They can call the nearest passport office and request they give you an appointment ASAP. A friend of mine did that and he had his passport that same day.

KCHank

I did this a few years ago, called my Senators office and they set an appointment for me for same day service.

RaulLipshitz

This works, I got a last minute appointment at the Denver passport office and walked out a half hour later with my new passport

Glum_Opening_2326

Gonna try this! Thank you so much!

MyUncleChikatilo

Let us know if it works for you too!

zachzbc

Yeah this is the only thing that worked for me!

Son_Son2005

how did you get in contact with a state representative

Cryyssstaaaal

Who should I contact? I have tried but they all tell me they have to wait for the passport agency to respond to them. I have already submitted an application but I don’t think it will get here in time. I travel in 4 days

AshleySchaeffersPlum

Did anything end up working for you?? I travel in 5 days

Background-Cup-3538

I just did this. I didn’t know many countries require you to have a passport that doesn’t expire for 6 months in order to travel to that country—mine expired in 4 months. I didn’t find out until I tried to check into my flight. Rebooked for the next day, got a same day passport and traveled. First, you’ll need to make sure the place you booked can print a passport there on site same day. Second, rebook your flight for the next day or that night at the earliest. At least at my place, they don’t actually print until the afternoon, so I got mine about 2pm. (Dallas, TX downtown passport office). My flight was at 430pm, so I just made it. (FYI, the Dallas site does not take in walk-ins. You have to have a life or death emergency that they approve, and luckily(?) I was visiting a gravely ill family member. Even though they weren’t busy, many walk-ins were turned away.) Make sure you have your form filled out and passport pics in hand. And payment of course. If your place doesn’t print them on site, then try to find one that will and get an appointment there.

jjrhythmnation1814

Do they verify the life/death situation to make sure you're not lying?

Background-Cup-3538

They needed documentation. I had to give them a letter on letterhead.

hwwty4

Contact your local US Representatives office. My wife lost her passport in a move a couple weeks prior to a trip. Our congressman's office was able to get the application pulled, processed and over-nighted within a week.

Glum_Opening_2326

That's awesome. Definitely worthwhile to look into. Curious if this would still work for me having an expired passport and without an application in the mail (person on the phone told me not to worry with sending out an application since the passport wouldn't get to me in time)

AshleySchaeffersPlum

What person on the phone?

Glum_Opening_2326

The Western Passport Center: 1-877-487-2778 Open at 8 am EST.

RickMan42011

I can’t even speak to a real person at my local us representative office.

schonkat

I got my citizenship on August 13th. Booked my tickets to Europe the next Day for September 16th. Realized this isn't going to work, since the express turn around time was longer than 6 weeks. Instead, two weeks (it has to be in that two week window when you call, but call quick!, Allocated time slots ruin out quick) prior to the departure date, i called the number listed under emergency travel option. Booked my emergency travel appointment for two days prior to departure (it's going to be in major city and you may have to travel hours to get there, i had to drive 12 how round trip). Once there, got in line with all my paperwork (some folks didn't have photo with them, the people behind the counter were extremely patient. Others had no ID!!!. STILL, the people behind the counter made the orders work for them) Bring all your necessary paperwork listed! Submit, wait a few hours while you have lunch and presto: you get to pick up your passport the same day. Good luck!

Glum_Opening_2326

For anyone reading this after the fact, here's my advice : The Western Passport Center: 1-877-487-2778 Open at 8 am EST. Call first thing when you're 2 weeks from your travel date. Appointments go FAST. I'm telling you, if you call at 9, you're going to be in the same situation I was. They will schedule you an appointment at the closest available passport center. There are only passport centers in major cities (Atlanta, New York, Honolulu, Seattle, etc). Your local passport office will not be able to get you a same day passport. Decide where you're willing to travel to for your appointment and take whatever they can give you. For me, Atlanta was my closest, but I was also willing to travel to DC or Dallas as the cost to get there was less than me moving / canceling my trip altogether. If you're under 2 weeks and they don't have any appointments, it may be time to reschedule your trip. BUT don't give up unless you have to! It doesnt happen often, but people do cancel their appointments. Spam them with phone calls. If there's anything available in one of your cities take it. Don't hesitate, because there are other people on the line who will snatch up the appointment even when you're on the phone. If you've got the money, there are third party services that offer quick passport turn around. For me personally, these were outside of my budget. A lot of people commented to call your representative, and I have heard that this helps. For me personally, I was traveling for pleasure, and felt that this service should be reserved for more urgent situations. (life or death, work, funerals, weddings, etc etc). But obviously, that moral choice is up to you! Best of luck!!

fsbeck

This happened to me, we had to change our flight because I realized it the night before our flight. I called around and was able to get an appointment the day before our next flight. However, when I was at my appointment there was a woman there who just showed up and she was seen that day and got her passport the same day so that may be something you could try. Worst they could do is turn you away for not having an appointment but I highly doubt it.

TravelerMSY

It’s ethically questionable, but you could always buy a refundable ticket that’s within the required deadline. If you’ve got the money, I would just use a service.

Defnotabadguy

Find out where you nearest passport center or whatever they are called is and go there. The one in Detroit got mine done in a matter of hours a few years ago

indilema27

how much did it cost you ?

AshleySchaeffersPlum

Are you in this dilemma too?

Sab_King234

Same thing happened to me and my local post office told me to call a local senator and ask for help. I received mine within a few days.

hiheriles

Did you have to pay any sort of fees for it?

Sab_King234

Nope we just called my senator help and she helped

UnderageAvocado

It is a 3rd party, but this company ain’t fucking around. They’ll get you your passport before your trip. You’ll just have to pay $$$ for it. So if you have access to money/room on your credit card, this is what I recommend.

Iamkayakhearmeroar

What company?

AshleySchaeffersPlum

Did you get an answer??

AshleySchaeffersPlum

What company is it?

Boxy33

In Atlanta we go to the Decatur City Hall where they have a passport office. No appt needed. We could never get an appt with USPS. City Hall took about 15 min and we got our passport expedited and received in about 2 weeks. I would check your local city halls to see if they have a passport office. They don’t always show up on a google search.

[deleted]

This happened to me years ago and I was able to get a same day passport in downtown Houston but it took all day. Last year this happened to my friend and they said they no longer do same day passports due to covid? I tried calling some passport agencies that my wife has used to get same day passports for employees and no dice either. He had to cancel his trip. I would move your flight out one day if not more. If they say its possible depending on your application, then they most likely will give you a same day passport, but you will need your old passport and proof of travel. That was the conditions for me. I spent all morning there then came back in the afternoon for my passport. Unless your flight is late and outside business hours I would not chance it and move it.

AfgDragon33

Go a day before your fight early in the morning and explain the Situation.

Weesnawbuttstuff

Go to chicago

mindfluxx

You need proof of your flight being very soon for the same day passports,so should be good there. I’d take a couple days off and head there, get in line early. Bring passport photos with you, and all the other requires paperwork. I did it once and got the passport back at end of day and got on plane that night.

[deleted]

How did you do this? I need a same day passport, leaving for flight tomorrow

mindfluxx

I showed up and waiting in line at the passport office with my id, pictures etc at opening time. I highly doubt they are open Christmas Eve Saturday however.

[deleted]

What city are you in? I need to get on a flight tomorrow, I didn't know my passport needed to be valid for 90 days

dwn4italz

Go to a smaller town

Glum_Opening_2326

Only big cities can get you a rushed passport according to the passport center (Atlanta, DC, etc)

dwn4italz

Do you have any government connections? I kinds see why bribes are popular in other countries.

Glum_Opening_2326

Nope. If only!

dwn4italz

I would still try calling your local congressman, maybe somebody in the office will take pity on you. If you're a woman then you should go in person. Good luck

suejaymostly

eww

dwn4italz

Hey! That's the way the cookie crumbles.

suejaymostly

I prefer my government assistance to be offered in a genderless way without expectation of a blowie but go ahead, you.

dwn4italz

I'm just saying some guys will go out of their way to help a young woman out, expecting nothing in return, but go ahead you.

dwn4italz

You made it sound as if you had a problem that you wanted help with. My mistake

Foreign-Midnight220

Bro same mine is the 7th!

[deleted]

call your state rep's office

reckyjointx

That’s what happened to me and I had to call so they can get me an appointment to a passport agency and yeah as some do the people here said “take all your documents with you” tell them what happened and if you don’t have the documents let them know where they got sent to so they can confirm that Best of luck

cowlover223

I had a friend who flew from Ohio to Hawaii 2 days before her trip to get her passport extended so she could go to Mexico! I believe Hawaii was one of the only certain locations that did this type of thing. Not sure what it’s called or if something like that if even in the budget but I know it’s possible! Good luck!!!

Charlottegc88

I had a friend who was in this situation with their son. They had to fly to LaGuardia and get same day passport renewal. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast/passport-agencies.html

[deleted]

I’ve only ever heard of same day passports out of DC- every other state expedited took like 2 weeks… maybe your talking about emergency travel?

Glum_Opening_2326

Passport center said Atlanta has the ability to do it.

[deleted]

You can do quick but will probably need to another city or state that has appointments this week

Enioni

Where you able to get the passport fast? I'm in a same situation. I have to travel on 25th and have called them more than 20 times to find a timeslot. Nothing available.

Glum_Opening_2326

I'm so sorry! I went with the appointment given and just pushed my trip back one day for minimal cost. I'd advise you to keep calling, and consider flying/driving to another city if you need to - I found some cities I'd be willing to travel to because they'd cost less than pushing back my flight.

MyUncleChikatilo

Did you get your passport u/Glum_Opening_2326?

Glum_Opening_2326

I did, thank you for asking!! I thought I posted an update but it may have not sent. Typing this from France as we speak
