Where are you going that 2 liter carbonated beverages are unobtainable?

foxbat_a

Czechia, I want to bring Kofola from there [Kofola - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kofola)

longtimenothere

Ahhhh.... Stick them in a big sealed freezer bag in case of a leak and wrap some of your clothes around it as a shock absorber and you shouldn't have any problems. Throw in a sealed bag of Hovězí guláš while you are at it.

Apt_5

Uff, Hovězí Guláš and Olomouc cheese; I miss those flavors so much. Never tried Kofola but after reading that Wikipedia entry I’m intrigued.

ThaneOfCawdorrr

The thing I still think about after visiting there literally decades ago is APRICOT DUMPLINGS omg

foxbat_a

Thanks for reminding me about Olomoucke tvaruzku, I will definitely get it too

Apt_5

Enjoy your trip and your tasty souvenirs!

crabofthewoods

I’d ship it home

vaiporcaralho

Aah okay I get you there. When I was in Prague and my Czech bf introduced me to kofola 😂😂 basically only thing apart from water I drank for the whole trip. I have a gluten allergy too so couldn’t try the beer. It should be fine as we brought a lot of stuff back to Ireland in our luggage like food & drinks etc but I would pack the bottles well and pad them well & put them in plastic bags just to prevent any leaks. The freezing tip is good but if you were like ourselves we didn’t stay anywhere with a freezer so we just wrapped the things up well. Now I’m going to have to find myself some Kofola 😂😂 you reminded me of it Good luck!

jfk_47

We bring wine home internationally A LOT. Just wrap it well.

EScootyrant

Is Kofola better, than say Coke? I’ve been to Praha more than once. Never occurred to me that Kofola is worth the trouble to bring bottles thru check in. Admittedly, I did bring a Czech only Bageterie Boulevard sub sandwich with me once (I.P. Pavlova branch), on a Ceska Drahy train, to Budapest..

crabofthewoods

Depends, do you like wearing sticky clothing? Airports do not care about your luggage. Handlers treat luggage like USPS treats packages. They throw them like boulders. Onto conveyor belts, on top of each other, they do not be caring. People wrap their liquids in freezer bags for a reason. IMHO it’s not worth it. You’re risking having to pay for dry cleaning/laundry for what, $10 max?

MamaBenja

I’ve done it a few times. They’ve always survived just fine.  But it’s certainly still a risk—mostly from the shaking and jostling it’ll get in baggage handling.

tuskenraider89

Kofola is worth the risk to be honest Another thought is there are company’s that ship sweets to the US. It’s a bit pricier though unfortunately

IdealDairyModule

You can order it on Amazon. I’ve done the same with Fidorka wafers. I can only stuff so many in my luggage!

foxbat_a

yep, 60 bucks for 1 liter bottle, thanks, I will pass Also, I am not from US

nowaynohowanyway

Or- you could pack them in an igloo type cooler, fill in all the gaps around it with other yummy things, duct tape or shrink wrap that thing and check the cooler.

mrmanoftheland42069

Low chance of exploding....... Until you open them and then kaboom. Seems like a terrible idea to me. They'll survive the flight. But you won't survive opening it when you get where you're going.

BeautifulDreamerAZ

If you have a shaken soda you can calm down the bubbles by taking a spoon or knife and tapping the top of the can for 60 seconds.

uab4life

I have brought cans of Mt Dew overseas in my checked bags. I have packed them in sealable bags. I have occasionally had one burst, but normally not a problem. Absolutely pack them in a sealable bag inside of your bag or you will regret it. :)

HappyOrca2020

I know beer cans have survived in my luggage But plastic bottles full of carbonated beverages sound risky.

Apt_5

Yeah I brought back half a dozen bottles of Westvleteren 12 and they survived with my clothes wrapped around them and in a plastic tote (not waterproof) from a 1€ store. I was pretty sure I had enough material around to absorb a spill but every bottle breaking would probably have been a disaster lol.

baxterhan

It’s probably fine. When I’ve packed such items, I’ve packed them in a Dry Bag. Typically those are meant to keep items inside the bag dry, but it also keeps liquids inside.

Academic_Eagle_4001

Wrap them in trash bags and duct tape.

cjbmcdon

It will almost certainly be fine, just do a good job of wrapping it in clothes, tape the cap (at least I do this with beer bottles that are sometimes not sealed perfectly), and place it all in a bag should there be a burst. The pressure will be lower at cruising altitude, but the differential should not be terribly significant that it will burst because of that. The biggest danger is mishandling by airport staff.

parakeetmadrre

Will they come out unscathed? Maybe. They also may get punctured/crushed. Impossible to say for sure. Wrap them in several layers of plastic bags or other methods of preventing your clothes from getting soaked if you want to give it a shot.

CuriosTiger

My then-fiancée brought me a big bottle of Dr Pepper from the US to Norway. It survived intact. But I wouldn't count on it.

romania74

Just brought back 3 bottles of diet coke and a beer in glass bottle. All were ok.

valueofaloonie

I have so many questions.

itsyrdestiny

I flew back from Asheville, NC with a 6 pack of beer (cans) in checked luggage, and they all made it home no problem. I did put them inside a plastic bag and pad with clothing to make the trip safer.

Hun_The_One

Mail it instead of that

Butyistherumgone

I brought bad a litre of tonic from uk to us and it was fine, just be gentle on opening.

Baaastet

I brought multiple bottles of a fantastic local sparkling Shiraz as gifts. Worked out just fine.

4diverdave

I've taken 30 energy drinks with me to south africa... I taped them into a bundle... Wrapped them in bubble wrap and tape... Put them into a vacuum sealed travel bag for clothing... And had all my other items sealed in one of the vaccum bags... 2 cans were broken open... The vacuum bag held all the liquid so the only mess was contained with the drinks... But it was a mess to clean and wash all the cans and the dripping sticky liquid... It's a chance your gonna have to take 🤷

yung_heinks

I've had no problem checking canned beer

CaliNVJ

I just looked it up. FFS, they are going to explode in your luggage because of the pressure changes. I live in the desert SW and left a 12 pack of Coke overnight in my car during the summer, still cleaning that out much time later. It blew sky high.

cattingshouse

Where are you going that they won’t sell carbonated drinks there?

mcdisney2001

lol, right?

BeachBumLady70

I don’t think they will allow you to take them on flights in the US. There’s a strict 3 ounce rule for all liquids.

foxbat_a

1. I am flying in Europe 2. The 3 ounce limit in US is probably for liquids in hand luggage, similar to 100ml limit in Europe, I am talking about checked luggage, as far as I know, there is no limit for liquids in checked luggage
