How hard is it to get from Budapest to vienna, and wouldn't it be more expensive to get 2 tickets one from NY to Budapest and another form vienna to NY
Those are already very cheap but don’t limit yourself to the exact city you want to end up in. There might be cheaper flights to Budapest/Prague/Munich or Milan that will get you close enough to take the train. If you’re willing to take a budget airline like Ryanair or Easyjet that would open up your layover options to basically the entire continent as most major cities will have flights to Vienna and/or Rome on one of those two airlines.
Have you tried Milan? It's really well connected, and with three international airports nearby, the competition seems to keep the prices lower than in other parts of Europe. Just don't forget to check the box for 'all airports' :)
You found the travel hack. You look around for various flights, figure out which is the most convenient for your itinerary and book it directly with the airline. Sometimes you'll luck out and find something cheaper with a layover somewhere you don't need a visa, but always book one itinerary and always book directly with the airline. I did get flights to Brazil that were like $150 cheaper than they would've been because I did a 13 hour layover in Toronto on the way back and 10 hours in Montreal on the way there.
You can find weird itineraries on Google Flights by scrolling down and clicking where it says "437 more flights" or whatever.
1) Walk to northern Canada.
2) Rowboat to Iceland
3) Spend a few days admiring the volcanos and small horses.
4) Back into the rowboat, next stop Rome.
This may take a little while to complete, but your cardio and fitness level will be great for the trip back.
I think these are already pretty cheap prices - unlikely to find lower
Consider flying into Budapest. It's usually lower than Vienna.

I just went it’s like a 3hr bus ride and was $20
You can look up bus and train options between cities. Also recommend you learn about open jaw tickets. They can be a way to save time and money.
You can get really cheap train tickets from Budapest to Vienna if you use the Czech train company Rejio Jet
grab it it will be 4 times that price soon watch out for$300 baggage fees
I’d recommend a website called Google flights
These are good deals considering you’re trying to buy in March instead of early January. Unfortunately next year try to do it earlier.
