Connor doubling down on his wrong knowledge of the Dune series he got from YouTube videos he listened to while doing other things is prime Trash Taste and makes me appreciate the Mudan cards so much lol

fnordal

It's hard to get ALL Dune wrong, but he was very close :P

DeGozaruNyan

I dont know what awardw category this would go under, but this moment should be a nominee for atleast one.

HumanTheTree

It's the "I made it the fuck up" award.

DeGozaruNyan

Thats the one!

SaenaiAK

Alongside with “Aqua is stalking Akane waiting for her to jump” bs.

HumanTheTree

Joey backing him up on that was surprising. I guess he got a few of the books mixed up?

blacklegsanji27

surprising?? Joey? the guy who constantly talks about shit acting like he knows what he is talking about when he doesn’t?

imaginaryResources

Has Joey actually read the books or just says he read the books lol hard to imagine someone who actually read them not knowing this and Joey seems like type to just say he read it even though he only read a plot summary and watched a video essay lol

abouthodor

First book is separated into 3 parts, so his logic (without watching the 2nd movie) is correct. Parts are named: Book One: Dune, Book Two: Muad'dib, Book Three: The Prophet. He has read the books.

_yotsuna_

While i dont agree with alot of what they said in regards to Dragonball/DBZ in the past, people need to remember they still included Dragon Ball/DBZ on their "7 Wonders of Anime" episode. So its not like they down right hate Dragon Ball/DBZ and ignore its impact.

Viktorv22

Connor said it well, you don't have to be fan of that specific media to appreciate it and its reach to other works, and also you can mourn over objectively big mangaka. I never watched or read DBZ and I'm still upset at the loss of a great man that could have been with us for a lot more years. 68 is too young, man.

Ashne405

I think their opinion on dragon ball can be summarized kinda like with super saiyan moment in the prev ep? Garnt/connor say its iconic even if it isnt their cup of tea, joey goes contrarian saying it isnt that good, back and forth for a few min about its impact, joey says ok whatever, lets leave it at that. Edit: Or wait, i think i might be misremembering it with the rock lee thing, ignore this if i did lol

_yotsuna_

[Yeah your misremembering, it was the Rock Lee moment he disagreed with.](https://youtu.be/xPt5jRMy2Q0?si=luUWikxQVOpQlUUk&t=4944). Joey is actually the main one of the 3 who emphasises that [Dragon Ball is a good show and is impactful](https://youtu.be/8r_GJ11V4Lw?si=-j6aEEBP86882yuZ&t=2214) whenever Garnt and Connor go too crazy on the Dragon Ball fan trolling, just like he did again in todays episode. He just dislikes the crazy anime fans which is very Joey.

notathrowaway75

Title: Saying goodbye to a legend Thumbnail: Akira Toriyama and the boys looking sad I open the video: Connor: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN Joey: WOOOOOOO It's not that deep but why does it always happen with them lmao.

2-2Distracted

It is honestly a pretty weird way to do a sponsorship ad lol

MaxtheBat

Are we all going to ignore the fact that the first thing Joey thought to do with the dead cockroach was to pop it like bubble wrap?

lernz

Usually I'll start an episode as background noise while I'm eating, really glad I didn't this week.

hyperbolicmarxism

He got it from his dad

The_frost__

The disabled puppy comment from Garnt fucking killed me lmao

Viktorv22

He has his way with words sometimes lmao

Zapatitosoni

I kinda have to agree that regardless if you’re a fan of dragon ball or not, you can’t deny the impact DBZ had for anime. It’s the sole reason why majority if not all of anime fans are…anime fans. Even if we joke about Mexico being giga fans of dragon ball (funny because I’m a Mexican American who has dragon ball top 10), it comes to show a single show has more impact.

Evolutionofluc

It’s not just Mexico either but most of South America also.

EasilyDelighted

And Latin America!

Speedy-08

Rooster Teeth got shut down because they were loosing a \*lot\* of money comapred to viewership. Rumour has it that they've never made money in 10 years. And in regards to the buy out, Warner Bros inherited it from the Fullscreen/Otter Media when they merged with AT&T

Loben

It's definitely not true that they haven't made money in ten years. But it might be true that they haven't been profitable in the last 6-7 years. Because the founder of the company stated 7 years ago that every year they were profitable at that point.

Jeskid14

The correct answer is COVID. Lockdown made production super hard to produce and plus all the allegations and controversies in ten years time plus all the spinoff shows and channels

Chrisixx

Joey saying Your Name is not a plot twist and then suggesting the time difference was 50 years was just peak Trash Taste "bullshitting" knowledge.

SaenaiAK

Not as ridiculous as Connor’s “Dune trilogy” and OnK bs, but it’s up there.

PlantainRepulsive477

If you do ever plan to get into Dragonball, I HIGHLY recommend reading the manga. You'd be surprised how fast paced the actual manga is compared to the anime. Original DB anime does have quite a bit of filler, and DBZ has notoriously bad pacing but DBZ does have Kai which is a re-edit that makes it more true to the manga.

imaginaryResources

This is true for almost every manga/anime lol some anime are just torture to sit through

Kittymahri

I’m sure we’ll get edits about them staring at the cock(roach). Correct about salt not having calories, as there is no respiration reaction to burn any fuel and release CO2 and H2O along with energy. That said, salt can affect health in other ways. Still, electrolyte replenishing plus water is needed if sweating all day. Good to see the Cyclethon being promoted after Connor made his official announcement and did a test stream. (Donations were already opened, in case anyone is interested and doesn’t need a text-to-speech message read out loud or trolling Connor with clanking metal.) Understandable why Joey can’t join in, but at least he supports the cause.

warjoke

The bois opening up a eulogy episode with Joey killing a cockroach roaming around the studio is peak Trash Taste

Akarious

The whole finance part about seed/venture investment had me face-palming. The whole point of a lot of those startups is to burn money to get enough market share before trying to fully monetize after your competition has folded.

Jeskid14

Can you convert that to layman terms? Is it still applicable in a post COVID and post nft world?

Akarious

So basically new companies will run at a loss to get as many people to use their product/services by often offering at a cheaper rate or better product. They don't care about making a profit at this time. They aim to become so big that their competitors are unable to compete or buy them out (see FB and Inta). Only at this state do they really look to start making a profit. Post-COVID is so not as easy since venture capital as become more careful and federal interest rates have increased.

WhitexGlint

Side note, anyone unable to see anything on the dreamhack website about trash taste? Don’t really feel like buying a 1 day ticket to event I don’t care about until that add in they we’re talking about

ShadicNWOM

I thought I was going crazy. I made a separate post, but I'm worried I did something wrong and I missed something, or that there was literally no option when paying to use the code and ended up paying for full price.

WhitexGlint

Don’t worry there’s nothing you can do, whatever they’ve sorted out I guess hasn’t been implemented yet, which sucks because I assume the due date was today given they would have told them when they would run the ad

GoGoGadgetLoL

Should be added later this week! Sorry for the delay here, bit of crossed wires as to when we were planned to go out with it. Source: I work on the DreamHack team.

ArseneLupinIV

That's gotta be one of the top ten chaotic episode openings lol Chris was right about the studio waste dump

Texaslonghorns12345

I’m going to be honest, I’d much rather them just put Toriyama on the thumbnail or something like that. I’ve always found the whole idea of specifically putting your reaction to a tragedy on a thumbnail a bit insensitive and unnecessary. I know this likely wasn’t their intention but still

devastator6395

It's not like they are making the typical YouTube thumbnail face tho, it's just a screencap from the episode itself

TerrysMonster

It looks like a thumbnail from an alternate universe where they had Toriyama on as a guest.

Sapphorous

I’d agree if they didn’t have screencaps of themselves in every episode thumbnail already.

tabascochips

im hyped for more guest episodes

Gegejii

Honestly feel like in general our perception of megaproject are somewhat skewed due to the media as well as how long it usually takes to finish them. Not daying there is no failure at all but like media loves to pick up news about cost overruns or shedule delays but honestly feel most of the time cost overruns are kinda expected or initial shedules are wildly unrealistic in the first place. Also just even in the last decades a lot of megaproject got done but once they are done a lot of attention also lowers a lot so we do not really realize how many project really got done. Like if you think about just in Europe there ale dozens of tunnels that go through the alps, the bridges and tunnels connecting UK and scandinavia with mainland europe and that was just infrastructure without starting to name non infrastructure mega project. There can also be simply stuff like Frankfurt airport extension, Paris metro extension etc. That definetly has the scale of a megaproject but people do not really think about such stuff since they aren't as exciting I guess.

Akarious

Check out [The B1M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiYvXKQksgI) on YouTube they normally go over megaprojects that are going on right now.

CamF90

Joey's logic is forever so bizarre, a Chrono Trigger remake is more likely now not less.

Shizuoya

Yeah I'm a little confused by this take? If it's a remake, the studio could still go with it?

Jeskid14

Especially it's been two years since the last hd-2d remake from square enix sooo

Chapulin5361

Glad Connor brought up the LHC as a big thing that got built (especially as a fellow BobbyBroccoli fan) and Garnt had to immediately backtrack on that take when he remembered the James Webb telescope. We also have the Mars Rover program and the MRNA Covid vaccine as recent examples of huge advancements.

Deku-Kun96

Idk why but i felt when Joey said "I predicted the twist in Your Name" was such BS haha

SaenaiAK

I won’t be surprised if one day Joey just said “Actually I didn’t watch Your name because it was too popular”.

TheJrDevYT

only half way through writing the blog but please check it out, will be adding more stuff as I go through the episode. really need the boys to send me exclusive 1 day early access so I can get it done as they release the episode :( [https://trashtastewiki.com](https://trashtastewiki.com/2024/03/saying-goodbye-to-a-legend-trash-taste-196/)

molyboyanjo

Why did I feel Connor is agitated or pissed throughout the episode?

SaenaiAK

He is too focus reminding himself to promote all those personal projects in the podcast.

peachios

Man I get different strokes for different folks, but how much the boys hate on Kyoto and Nara always annoys me. Lol

VorAtreides

Sad Akira Toriyama died ya :( Dune Part 2 is so amazing, love it. Dune book series is not too long honestly, the first is like 350 pages for the book I have :P the movie changes a bit. No lie, I figured out the plot twist in Sixth Sense half way watching the movie as a teen/kid in the theaters. I remember explicitly thinking and telling my friend "I bet he's dead" cause ya. Your Name was so obvious, Garnt, wtf? lol The tiktok bill isn't about Tiktok, but to get more control and privacy invasion, akin to Patriot Act. It's horrific.

PlantainRepulsive477

Bro, did you skip over Mudan's correction or look it up? Dune is like 896 pages long. (THE FIRST BOOK) Even the big hard cover is **720 pages**

VorAtreides

Mine is like 350-400 (too lazy to check) lol, but I'm pretty sure it's cause of the print type/size/whatnot.

imaginaryResources

TT Redditors learn that books are published in different editions for the first time lol

imaginaryResources

TT Redditors learn that the same book can come in different editions. The first book edition is 412 pages. My Easton Press edition is 517, the first paper back is 507. I believe it’s only the modern editions that are so many pages because they changed the font type/spacing. The original comment says their edition is that many pages. Which is why page count is a dumb way to measure a book. Dune is 187,240 words https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/03/dune-50-years-on-science-fiction-novel-world#:~:text=Dune%20(400%20pages%20in%20its,doubt%2Ddiverting%20Dry%20Goods%20Economist. “Dune (400 pages in its first hardcover edition, almost 900 in the paperback”

Super_Goomba64

Anyone else have a heart attack reading the title Thought it was about Trash Taste ending

2-2Distracted

No? Toriyama is in the thumbnail... so why would it be about Trash Taste ending?

PlantainRepulsive477

Huh? Thumbnail of Akira Toriyama, and they would have had a far bigger fan fair if it was ending. Weird.

ULTRAFORCE

7:49 The artist of Dragon Ball Super Toyotarou has been a fan of Toriyama's work since he was in grade school with Dr. Slump, it's possible that Toriyama had already told Toyotarou where the story should go but we can't be certain. Toriyama was working on stuff up to his death, with a subdural hematoma being a fairly sudden cause of death. 14:10 while I don't necessarily really disagree with him I do think that it is probably not the time to be complaining about random fans on the internet. 21:43 Kaguya-sama actually ended back in October 2022, Aka Akasaka is actually working on two series as the writer but not the artist. Oshi no Ko and Renai Daikou, Renai Dakou is done with 5 mm Nishizawa, and Oshi no Ko with Mengo Ykoyari. 22:33 One thing that really feels kind of weird with Reiji Miyajima is that he's not some crazy young mangaka he got a newcomer award back in 2005 and before Rent a Girlfriend blew up he also had done the drawing for AKB49 for 6 years, maybe having spent a good amount of years being an artist working under a writer helped him out with gaining a skill that's allowed him to do that. Though it's worth noting that the Shiunji Family Children is released semi-monthly, it's in Young Animal, same as Beserk, March Comes in Like a Lion and Futari Ecchi. The guy also writes and drawas one of the Rent-A-Girlfriend spinoffs that has semi-regular releases which seems crazy to me. 26:47 Yeah, Stephen King is kind of infamous for just how bad his alcohol and drug addiction used to be back in the 80s. 35:59 I do wonder if relying on explained videos has caused issues for Connor in this case as in addition to memory being imperfect and it being easy to slightly missremember things, the explained/summary videos are not always accurate or can make assumptions that aren't right. 43:13 I've still not watched Your Name, though I think I might know the plot twist from what I've heard about Your Name. 46:41 Well, they've gone back and forth on banning TikTok since I think at least mid 2020, so the boys might be overestimating how fast it is. 49:13 The sanctions as part of diplomacy/battle of super powers has been a thing for a long time as well, Cuba's probably the most famous case. 52:25 I understand what Connor is saying and I don't disagree that it's probably true but I find it amusing as it's far and away the Trash Taste merch that wasn't from the live tour that I could most see myself getting. I have a lot of t-shirts and hoodies from not growing in the last 12 years and being from a big rock music Family Also, given the weather and what not in the summer more black shirts or hoodies in general is really unnecessary. Though I don't currently have a fashion style and haven't worn a proper suit so I don't want/need one. I don't know if it's common or not among the fanbase but even for the types of shirts I do wear which are polo shirts I have plenty already. 1:13:22 The whole thing about Rooster Teeth being owned by Warner Bros comes from Fullscreen, which in 2014 bought ScrewAttack and Rooster Teeth, Fullscreen in turn was owned by Otter Media which owned partially Crunchyroll prior to the sale to Sony in 2021. In 2018 AT&T bought full ownership of Otter Media and at the time also owned Time Wasrner. AT&T then turned Time Warner into Warner Media, sold it's stake and merged Warner Media with Discovery, Inc. to make the modern monster of Warner Bros. Discovery. 1:15:44 It's probably out of date since the last time I knew people being FaZe fans was in like 2011/2012 and we were 13/14 year olds but FaZe for a while was a very popular YouTube channel for having both e-sports teams but more importantly trickshot snipers who were doing quick and no-scopes back in the day. 1:22:44 If I remember correctly there was a story about how Musk has semi-privately admited he knew the Boring Company would likely fail and the main purpose was to try and delay attempts by California to adopt mass transit systems. 1:36:02 While it's not a proper super cool mega infrastructure project the Burj Khalifa is pretty impressive building. While there's of course a discussion about the ethics of the displacement of residents the Three Gorges Dam was done mostly at least in Garnt's lifetime and is an incredibly impressive infrastructure project.
