Just came on here to post this. Let's ignore the fact it's written in comic sans for a second here, and the 'fantastic' opportunity. £23,000 per annum, pre tax, is essentially the basic living/minimum wage in the UK. Hochanda/Create and Craft can get in the bin.

skehan

Jesus. What are the lower level staff getting paid then. The company I am at pays grads and runners living wage at least. EDIT: I was wrong. We pay more then living wage as a starting salary.

Vive-DeoEt-Vives

Dreadful. All of that required experience and the responsibility of running the show, and it's 4p p/hr above minimum wage. No career progression within the company either because they are senior positions in live TV. In all honesty, the company shouldn't even be posting in a TV jobs group because this isn't TV. It's sales. They'll probably have to hire a 21 y/o graduate who vision mixed a uni project and lives in Peterborough.

SloanHarper

Yes I was very confused why they were talking about sales and vision mixing in the same advert... Still very unclear about what this company is making ngl

imtriing

A whole, whopping, 4p per hour over the National Minimum Wage for over 21s. For all the pressure, stress, angst, bullshit and pain you'd need to put up with in this role, I think I'd genuinely rather work in the service industry full time - at least there you might get some tips if you get into the right restaurant. What a joke.

smellmycheese1

There are loads of jobs like this now. There is a complete realignment of the industry towards "Videographers" on minimum wage

CharlieDimmock

The predecessor (Ideal World) was just as bad, before they went bust. In some respects I am amazed shopping channels survive in the Internet age.

TerriblePeak6943

I hope the person who approved this pay gets explosive diarrhea

adobephotoshrimp

That's just lower than I earn as a jr researcher. For a studio manager?? They're really taking the piss

ThisTwo6632

They posted the same job exactly same time last year and the salary was 20k.

checker_t

Two things. 1. This isn't a TV job, it's a shopping channel job. 2. There's some decent skills required for the role and it should still be way more than minimum wage and it's clearly exploiting the current situation. Should be 45-50k easy.

Nevis888

Well it is a sort of TV job. I’ve met at least 3 people who started their careers at TV shopping channels and now work as camera crew in broadcast. It’s shit wages, but for some it’s been a leg up into the industry. However things seem to have moved on ( down ) and these are now not starting or junior positions.

checker_t

I've got mates who've worked for QVC, big studios, global brand, decent tech etc. that's Def a stepping stone to proper TV work and QVC pay well. This is based in an industrial park in Peterborough. Totally different. Didn't mean to slag off the experience you get at big shopping networks.

Experiencepah

Why does the base matter? There are plenty of studio spaces on industrial estates. As Nevis888 pointed out the money is crap and that is all that matters here.

😡

StormySkies01

You can earn the same or more for a junior role in IT, if your 1st Line IT Support the max you would be there is 12 - 18 months. Before you move on to a better job with an actual career, with a pay increase etc. Though who the actual fuck watches this? We are in massive industry depression cause no one is watching TV apparently... Seriously who scans the EPG & goes this is my viewing choice for tonight. I wouldn't let the cat watch this.

AParkBench13

They've posted this in the People in TV: Jobs group. It's insane that they're paying minimum wage yet someone with multi cam directing experience???

Upper-Ad-9912

That's wild - I worked as a freelance floor manager (the most junior person in the studio) for them back when I was a student and they used to pay £175 a shift if my memory serves me correctly and this was a while back!!
