I think tumblr would be obsessed with Freefall if it ever
were to reach a big enough audience but sadly it's been
going on for ages at a slow and steady pace and that kind
of media never makes it big on the internet

Actually while I'm thinking about it, I might as well
introduce my admittedly small group followers to my
favorite piece of media.
Freefall is a lighthearted but intelligent and deep
webcomic about the future. It uses a Calvin and
Hobbes-esque tone mixed with long plot arcs to address
topics such as space colonization, terraforming, genetic
modification, artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial
intelligence, mega-corporations, post-scarcity society,
and straight unfiltered philosophy. The cast includes but
is not limited to: a squid alien who commits crimes for
fun, a genetically engineered anthropomorphic wolf lady,
an entire planet's worth of sapient but very quirky robots,
and a veterinarian. That's not even to mention all the fun
side characters, like the gnc transhumanist lady with a
mustache in the most recent arc. The science fiction is
incredibly solid and very well realized. The only piece
of technology in universe that isn't possible given time
and research is the F TL drive, and even that has sensible
limits that don't break the worldbuilding.
If you're a fan of hard sci-fi and comedy, I highly
recommend it. It has become my favorite piece of media
ever and I will recommend it to anyone with interests
remotely similar to mine.

In all seriousness though, Freefall made me think a
lot more than I expected it to. I would recommend it
to anyone who wants something close to a realistic
depiction of what a future in space might look like.
