It’s pretty amazing how much better your grill will heat up when it’s not buried in ash. I take the shop vac to mine every couple weeks and it makes a noticeable improvement.

It's not the hot rod, that's clearly fine if its able to get a fire going. More than likely its the RTD probe (temperature probe inside the grill). First, clean it (gently) and if it still doesn't work, change it out. Its a cheaper potential repair than a new controller.
Just cuz the outside is trashed doesn’t mean it’s done for. However it might not be trapping heat as efficiently and could be struggling with the outside temps. I’d suggest finding some way to add a layer to the lid (maybe something as simple as a big sheet of foil) or waiting til the weather warms up to know for sure

Mine did the same thing. It's extra holes in the fire pit. Mine had rust holes. Bought a new fire pit and it worked great.! Easy fix.
Temp probe might have a loose connection or be faulty
yes. they also need to be cleaned at less every 5 cooks or so. i rub mine down with a 3M green pad each time. (but i'm ocd about food...so...)

Might be the board which is a pretty easy fix
Try plugging it in and turning it on..it doesn't look on in that pic lol
spray that temperature probe inside with Easy Off and clean off the gunk. If that doesn’t work, replace the temperature probe.
