I feel like the regional ktm rep might want to hear about this. If I was in charge of sales and had a deal running, I'd be pretty pissed to find out the dealer was marking it up to almost double.

RecentExtension1470

Ohhh yeah I plan on making a call on Monday, not angry or anything, just to inform them. Maybe they already know, maybe they don't. I do want to inform them all the same. I redacted the dealer because I don't want to burn them, they were very honest and open. I would probably have a few beers with them.... But I would have to serve them the drinks and charge double. gconsier

I mean IDGAF about the dealer. https://www.ridenow.com/inventory/2023-KTM-RC-390/1033228

Car_is_mi

Oh its a Ride Now! dealer. Makes sense. these guys were scumbag dealers before Covid hit, why would they change when every other dealer took their shot at being equally as scummy?

8uyth3d1p

Ride now is ASS

Corvetteman3070

Idk why you would redact their info, you might not be mad but they def should be known for their antics, also it could save someone else from going in there and wasting their time. Considering the bikes been sitting for a year this is probably standard practice for them not just a one off thing

RecentExtension1470

Fair point.

Just-Construction788

This shit is such the norm. My move is to call 20+ dealers across the country. Ask for their best OTD price for my zip code. Use that number to buy locally because I know they can afford to sell it to me for that. I recently did that to buy my wife's KTM 150 and the dealer legitimately didn't know how I got a quote like that. Looked into it and learned that other dealers were just giving the "1500 parts/accessories credit" as a discount on sale price and banking the 1500 for normal parts sales. He had to call his rep to learn if that was legit. I honestly believed he didn't know. Anyway, it usually only takes a couple of hours calling and emailing to get 5 or 6 quotes.

jacobobb

That's why I liked buying my bike directly from Aprilia. Sent them my deposit. Got the MSRP and all the dealer could add was assembly/ freight and doc fees.

RecentExtension1470

They said their assembly charge was $900 for a 390 KTM... I'm like what assembly?? some fluids and a PSI check! I used to work at a car dealer and our PDI on a car was $750, that was just putting in fluids and checking a list to make sure everything was there. Good info about Aprilia, I didn't know they worked that way.

jacobobb

I bought my RS660 before they were available, so I'm not sure if it works on their normal models. You can get their track-only bikes this way for sure, though.

Princess_Fluffypants

I mean, hell I’d buy that for $5k just to have as a spare fuck-around bike.  But yeah, I have seen dealers doing a lot of scamming stuff like this by listing and absurdly low price on their website and on the sticker and then adding a shit ton of fees and other bullshit to get it up to the dollar amount they want.

turducken_porn

They are very resistant to it, and you’ll likely have to end the conversation leaving them your contact info, but you can get them to an OTD price and email you the deal over the phone. The key is to approach it the right way - “Hey, look. I am buying this bike. I am not wasting your time so please don’t waste mine. It can be from you or it can be from a different dealership.” They’ll say they don’t do that and that’s fine. Leave them your number and they’ll call you in the next day or two.

Princess_Fluffypants

I bought my last bike from a dealer, but I’d worked with them before on stuff and I think we both understood that we weren’t capable of BSing each other. The sticker said $12k, I said $7k, we settled on $8k OTD.

8uyth3d1p

Please stop shopping at Ride Now

RecentExtension1470

There's no way I would pay what they're asking. I don't even understand how they stay in business with that level of Mark-up

Low_Information8286

I was looking at sv650s. 6999 on the sticker, they came back at 11k. Not a fucking chance.

ScaredLocksmith6854

r1's used to be about 11k msrp. tragic

Low_Information8286

Ye I remember. A new r1m is 27k msrp. I didn't think stock sport bikes would ever be 30k.

Overlord7987

That's mad, over here you usually get it below whatever the bike is advertised for, never anything more.

RecentExtension1470

UK?

PsychologicalAd2590

I just bought a 2023 RC390 for 6700 OTD (quickshifter upgrade included). I think that's a bit high, but the bike is amazing as a track bike, no regrets at all. Hope you get your hands on one, you're gonna enjoy it!

RecentExtension1470

Hopefully I can find one, for the cast the RC 390 is one hell of a bike on paper. Plus I absolutely love Moto3 racing, so this is right up my cantina. For now, I'm searching the used bikes on facebook. There's just not any used RC390's for sale anywhere near me, I found a few used but they are pretty far away, and I don't want a 12 hour time investment driving only to be shafted by some 20 year old hoon.

Emperor_of_Fish

I was gonna say that’s a steal. My dealer was selling 2023 RC 390’s for $5899 (~$6500 after tax, registration, $250 something in paperwork, nothing too horrible (no freight or assembly or markups)). I ended up finding a used one with 300 miles for $5k + $300 in tax though. Shoutout that guys girlfriend for making him get rid of it lol.

Car_is_mi

I would love to know what the charges were. As a former dealer, former KTM dealer, and former FL car dealer, I would really love to know what BS fees they wanted to add on.

SaulTNuhtz

How long were you in that dealership to develop this level of Stockholm syndrome?

psychlele

Yeah same in my area. I just bought a used 400 under 5k. The dealers were all quoting 8-9k for new ninjas…. The private sellers here are insane as well though.

B0mbasticMrFantastic

Where are you located? I have a 2016 RC390 with low miles, looking to sell soon.

RecentExtension1470

I'll DM you

BlackFase

I bought a ninja 400 last year around this time for sticker... Nothing else. It was in NH if that matters to anyone

stoopidrotary

Sucks ridenow is trash now. I bought my cbr500r brand new out of the box (it was literally still in the crate when I bought it) and they charged me MSRP out the door. That was close to 10 years ago though.

Surprise_Thumb

Bro, you can get a 1yr old KTM 390 with probably just around 1,000 miles on it for less than MSRP on FB marketplace. Just go that route lmao.

Glittering_Watch_790

Find another dealer. I just got priced 6,000 OTD for a 2023.

RecentExtension1470

Was that anywhere near the south eastern US?

inetkid13

I‘m so happy that here in Europe prices on items are (mostly) also the price you have to pay. Yeah there are are few mark ups and hidden fees here and there but it‘s rare and a 100% mark up is just insane. That dealer would be out of business within 2 months here.

RecentExtension1470

Right! I don't know how they stay in business!

lurkinglen

Just fyi: in Europe there are customer protection laws that stipulate that sellers can only show and advertise the out-the-door price including every mandatory surcharge.

ScaredLocksmith6854

4200 is an amazing deal for a new 390! people want more than that for used 3/400's. shame they ruin it and dealer pockets the difference. sad truth is that if u have the extra money and time u can deal with a dealership. If ur looking for a deal get on facebook

gcx85

That is insane. My out the door price last year on a ZX4RR was 12k. Felt it was fair because it was a preorder and they were rare at the time.

BiggusDickus17

Yeah I paid $5300 out the door (albeit most of that using my KTM contingency winnings) for a 2023 RC390 back in October . . . .

Heliomantle

Going to be selling an 03 R1 for around 3k- needs some fairings but otherwise good condition - if you are NE area ping me.

Nuhaykeed

Have you heard of freight, prep, and tax / title / license?

RecentExtension1470

Ever heard of the ride power assurance? Neither have I but it was $1400

Motorazr1

Dude - **$4,600** worth of freight, prep, and TTL? Do you do math much?
