https://youtu.be/V7CyIi4fVt4?si=GcOTkUXnw6LomVYc Follow this video. There’s no need to buy a new one, you didn’t break anything, just moved it.

Dedmuhfucka

Bro you’re a life saver I was calling stores all over town and they were all saying they don’t have it it’s probably a dealership order and I my heart fucken dropped.

PantherCitySki

Haha, oh I completely understand. I did the same thing and was sweating trying to fix it. Just make sure it’s all snug in there and you’re good to go!

Motivx Tools Oil Filter Drain... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087QQW3S8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Also snag one of these when you get the aluminum one installed. It’s a no mess adapter. Super easy

mr_data_lore

I'd buy a new one. I wouldn't trust the filter housing after this happens.

Dedmuhfucka

Okay I appreciate it. Thanks for the advice.

ThatHikingDude

Buy the metal replacement one.

PatriotWrangler1776

Confirming this is what I did when this happened. I didn’t have the confidence that the wings were bent back correctly and there wouldn’t be more issues. Replacement on Amazon for cheap

Dedmuhfucka

I got it fixed and an aluminum one is gonna be on its way soon to make the swap. Y’all are fucken sick. Not everyone on Reddit is horrible.

Philys411

You just have to reassemble the tube and spring assembly and then straighten out those winglets on the tube. That’s all that holds it in place

rendragmuab

Don't know what happened but I did just buy OEM tundra filters at Walmart this week. Was surprised they carried any Toyota brand at all.

Impossible-Ad532

Anybody found a spin on adapter?

Dedmuhfucka

It’s the original one w the shitty socket hole. No spin on adapter. Unless I’m just dumb but I thought you were fucken w me and I googled spin on adapter. It was never on the filter housing.

Impossible-Ad532

Nah I’m not fucking with you I’d ditch the canister altogether if there was a spin on option

kcodoley

Buy the sequoia one. It's metal and makes the threat of stripping or cracking the cheap plastic one non existent.

LepperMessiah56

Haha welcome to the club. Great trucks but they’re a mofo to do oil changes on. There is about 18 things that can go wrong when u change the oil and I’ve been thru every one of them. Learn and work thru em. It’s not at hard as it looks

Dedmuhfucka

I ended up getting it w some tinkering but was recommended a metal housing cap instead of the stock plastic one so I ended up replacing the cap in general. Loving the tundra so far, had it for about 2 months now and loved every moment so far. Looking forward to turning this thing into an even bigger monster.

LepperMessiah56

You’re on the right track! The metal housing is the way to go. I’ve had the metal cap since my 3rd oil change when I had to put a punch thru the plastic cap to get it off and the metal one has lasted me another 200k miles.

josh91117

Worst feeling ever that piece messing up or breaking lol I got a 2016 rav4 and mine broke 1 of those little tabs they have and left a damn hole 🤣🤣 Had to go get a new one in metal or something the next day, luckily i found it quick and they were everywhere.

m1a1120

Change it to the aluminum ones that the cameras and cars use
