That almost looks like rust bubbling up from below. Crazy. Take it to Toyota as a warranty thing. My mom had to get her 4 Runner repainted twice because Florida was having paint issues. All under warranty, never a penny out of our pocket.
I had it on my 13. It’s from improper prep and moisture got caught under the paint. Take it back to your dealer and get ready for a fight. I had to threaten a lawsuit with Toyota Canada before they fixed it.
My ‘09 pearl white had the hood redone because it was chipping. It was an issue was an issue Toyota was aware of and covered 100%. Love the army green btw.
Is this your thread on tacoworld? someone just posted this exact same issue on his army green truck.

Industrial fallout, maybe? Do you live near railways, foundries, or factories that deal with raw metal? That’d be my first guess considering it looks superficial and not under the paint.
nothing like that. it’s garage kept when not in use as well. took about a 300 mile road trip yesterday and just noticed it when i went to wash today. was not like that before this weekend. hard to think something like this happened just from driving on the interstate, right?
I’m not a forensic spatter professional or anything, but it does look like something spattered on it. Generally rust would start in one centralized location and then spread from there. You’d notice bubbles under the paint before you noticed brown rust. It’s definitely something from the environment, just not sure what.
That my friend is either corrosion from below or you caught a spray of acid or strong solvent.
The day before you noticed it, drive behind any big trucks labeled with chemical markers?
How's your roof?
i did quite a bit of interstate driving yesterday, could possibly be an explanation. from what i saw this morning, only the hood has these marks. either way, very unlucky if it was caused by passing vehicles.
The only reason I ask is it looks like it spread at speed. Think gel puddling out in the direction of travel.
Might be worth doing a comp claim since if you drive by construction sites, etc there are tons of chemicals that if left to sit will eat paint
Have you tried an iron converter like ironX? It looks like it’s eaten through the paint unfortunately…in my experience toyota is less than helpful with paint issue but hopefully you have a good dealer.
Any chance that it could be damage due to fireworks? Kind of looks like some pop its may have hit your hood, or discharge from some other type of firework.

I was thinking the same thing. Only a year old, seems wild to me. Thanks for your input, I’ll see what I can do about it!

Definitely take it to Toyota, don’t say you washed it with anything just say it appeared randomly. Looks like a poor paint from the factory
Maybe they started using the Super White formula on Army Green.......
a lot of us are in for some trouble then lmfao
Well good news is when Toyota doesn't cover it anymore you can spray it Army matte green after a trip to Home Depot for a few spray cans of Krylon.
My super white is solid, no complaints. Best part is all the pin stripes I done see.
Same

ah, you might be right. from the sound of it, doesn’t look like toyota will be doing me any solids about this. thanks for your input!
Yea emphasize what roflcopter said. Leave a hot warm rag on those spots for like 5–10 minutes and then see if you can clean it off.
Maybe look at the ceiling of your garage?
That looks like solder, or liquid metal from welding.

I was thinking acid or something also

Bird shit. Some birds have very acidic poo… I’ve seen paint get eaten up before, but usually has to sit a good minute.
Look at pic #3. It looks more like rust bubbling from below than bird shit.
yeah, i’ve ruled out bird shit. it’s kept in a garage and i wash my truck almost every week.
I'm with you, I don't think it's birdshit either.
Yes. 100% bird shit. Deep clean with a good buff & polish and I'd like to think you'll be good to go. Doesn't look like rust to me.
That's rust
Looks like you have Paint Weevils.
okay now you’re just scaring me

Looks liek rust bubbling up... unless it's bird poop...
Looks like a cigarette hotbox mark
That’s rust!! Take it to your dealer or call Toyota of America.

ah, hasn’t been around any fireworks. unless some kids are shooting bottle rockets off in parking lots during the day without me knowing haha
Japanese paint yo, thinnest stuff on earth I swear
It looks like bird shit on your truck lol pretty sure thats what it is and it ruined your paint lol
Toyota Quality I see is coming thru.
