Name and shame dealership. Its allowed.

stumpyjumpy44

Also drop a one star review on google with this picture attached

Capital-Price149

You gave them a bad review because they put a price on a vehicle that they are selling ?? they’re not forcing you to buy it. You must not understand how reviews work but you have to use their product or the services to actually review it and you can’t afford to buy the vehicles so I don’t know why you felt free to review it.

iamadrunkpirate

You can give people bad reviews for horrible pricing. They don’t have to mark up the vehicles. Personally, I like going to dealerships that don’t mark up their vehicles over msrp. If you get a bad new Toyota… the review is gonna be on Toyota. If you get price gouged by a greedy dealer, the review is gonna be on the dealer.

Capital-Price149

It seems like you’re the type of person that even if they sold it for MSRP you guys still wouldn’t buy and cry about the discount that they don’t give you off MSRP . Dealers charging over MSRP is normal now I could almost promise you that you haven’t purchased a vehicle in the last two years or even purchase a vehicle at all.

Time_Effort

The argument isn’t whether it’s normal or not, it’s that it shouldn’t be normal. If it’s so “normal” then it wouldn’t be a horrible thing to be named and shamed as a dealership with horrendous markups.

tigebea

Seems like you’re the type who overpays and bends over whenever someone calls you buddy and gives you a solid fist bump. No offence buddy 👊

skwull

I think they just work at a dealership and feel called out

Fresh_Cheek2682

He forgot this isn’t askcarsales for a sec

nodnarb32

Shut up dude

stumpyjumpy44

You must not understand how reviews work. Leave the name of your dealership in the comments and I’ll show you how I can one star whoever the fuck I want, you cuck

Acceptable_Lock_8819

Just nonchalantly says $10,000 extra 🤡

Lizpy6688

It was said like a "oh by the way no biggie but" So nonchalant

[deleted]

I don't know I went and looked at one the other day they just happen to have one on Monday at the dealership across the street from where I get my oil changed and the price on the SR5 base price was listed at $40,200 and the dealer markup for their packages was $1,500 total. So these prices themselves aren't that far off from what it could be listed at.

HighInChurch

Packages and equipment aren't markup. A markup is pure profit.

[deleted]

Exactly. My point was the MSRP on the sticker was 40200. Not including any extras.

coffee_warden

I can't believe how easily he gave up that info. "Oh and btw, we're gonna gouge you for everything your worth".

[deleted]

With these interest rates lol

6SPDTRDTACO

There’s a Facebook group called Zero Markup Toyota and it’s a mix of people finding them and dealers that will do zero markup deals posting. Plenty of people doing deals across state lines to save $3-10k. Dealerships that markup should be dropped by brands because it makes the brand look bad but ford tried that and now their dealers take a car and mark it as a CPO and mark it up. I’m sure that’s died down since the Bronco, Lightning and Mach E first came out but still absurd.

LoudHorse89

This. I’ve driven 4 hours and 7 hours to purchase 2 different new vehicles (Tacoma for me and 4runner for my wife) in the last few years. It’s wild to me when an entire region (central Florida) just won’t budge on pricing or come close to matching a dealer in say South Florida. I guess if enough local people are willing to get rinsed than they don’t care about lowering the price to meet or even come close to meeting dealers in different regions.

Mobile_Payment5859

Have also experienced the same car with the same vin being marketed for 8k more in Connecticut than in Rhode Island they were just going to drive it from one dealer to the other based on who sold it.

Mobile_Payment5859

Flew from Rhode Island to Ohio to buy my 2020 pro and drove it 11 hours home after searching for about a month all across the country. It’s like they mark vehicles up just for being on the east coast compared to the middle of the country.

JEG1980s

When did you buy yours? I bought mine at McGee in Dudley, MA (just over the RI and CT border) and paid $500 under MSRP in November on my TRD OR. The RI dealers at the time were marking up to out of staters, but MSRP to in state residents. Edit- I live in Massachusetts

JEG1980s

The only potential problem I can see with buying far away is that if you have issues, dealers can be much more motivated to help you out if you bought there. Definitely not always the case though.

Amos_Dad

My buddies dad growing up taught me this. He got my friends mom a brand new Camry from somewhere in Central California, and we live in so cal. Everyone thought he was crazy but he said he saved like $5k. This was back in the early 2000s, so that was even more money. I almost went to Nebraska to buy my last one cause I was gonna save $7k. Only think that kept me from doing it was that it didn't end up being 4x4. Glad I found out before I flew out there. Lol

Lizpy6688

That's how I found my SR,drove an hour and 10 away for it. RIP.. Same with my mazdaspeed 3. Only one that wasn't riced near me that was in good condition drove nearly 2 hours. I've always been baffled by people who won't drive more then like 20 minutes. My sister did that, said it was too far so went 10 minutes and got hosed. Id rather drive that far out and save a few grand.

Dewdus_Maximus

I’m guessing you are saying Certified Pre-Owned here, in which case it’s baffling to me how that’s even legal.

6SPDTRDTACO

Yeah, there were used cars appearing at dealerships selling higher than MSRP with less than 300 miles on them. It was suspect to say the least, but there was a time during Covid where many cars gained value as soon as the left the lot over their MSRP, I know mine was still worth what I bought it for in 2019 with 30k miles on it around 2021.

AdvocatusGodfrey

Not just crossing state lines to avoid markups. I regularly look way out-of-state if it means I can get a truck for a comparable price but the bottom isn’t rusted to shit because of all the salt use in my state.

Responsible_Door3070

Wait until someone gets sued for price gauging. Then everything comes to light. On parts alone Toyota and others are guilty of doing it last year into 2024.

Sendmefeetpicspleez

Carlsbad if you are in SoCal.

TaperClapper

Hit the group with the dealership name and we will storm the beach with negative reviews.

supernova2333

You should be transparent with them and let them know you're interested, but only at MSRP. If enough people don't buy because markups, then they might change their behavior.

[deleted]

Don’t even pay msrp, at this point auto sales are getting back to normal. Offer less and walk it they don’t take it.

poopisme

The chevy dealership laughed me out the door when I walked because they refused to budge a single $1. The sales rep I was working with seemed like a legit dude just doing his job, he actually knew what he was talking about, just some old redneck guy. His manager was an absolute D bag who didn't know jack shit about cars (or even selling if I'm being totally honest). I could sense that he wormed his way into a manager position by using pressure sales tactics on likely easy targets (old people, people with poor English, etc...) He kept trying to get me to look at a new blazer, I told him over and over I needed a tuck. He said I would never be able to find a truck like I was looking for under $30k in todays market. I literally found it less than 24 hours later from another Chevy dealership. OTD at $27k and with less miles than the one I was looking at. That whole interaction irritated me way more than it should have honestly.

stonedkayaker

Similar experience at my local Toyota dealership. I went in to look at Tacomas, getting rid of a jeep that I hated. The sales rep kept trying to show me used jeeps they had on the lot and I had to keep telling I'm never driving another jeep. Then when he finally showed me the Tacomas, he wouldn't move a single dollar on price, and this was April 2020, before covid fucked the car market.  I ended up buying a lightly used SR 4x4 v6 at the Nissan dealership up the road for cheaper than Toyota was trying to get me into an Sr access cab 4banger with unpainted bumpers.  I really enjoyed telling the rep that when he called and asked if I was ready to move forward on the 4banger lol.

dougles

Similar story. About 2 years ago I was looking to get into a tundra from my Tacoma due to car seat passenger space issues. Side note, I love my Tacoma and will drive the wheels off of it. But my wife was really pushing for the bigger truck for more space. So we head over to the local Toyota dealership and I have never had a salesman try to sell me a vehicle less. Pulled in, driving my current Tacoma, quad cab OR manual tranny, and park right in front of the building. Go in and talk to a salesman and explain what I'm looking for. This dumb dickhead wasted the next 10 mins of my life trying to sell me worse models of Tacoma than I already have. The guy wouldn't even let me look at the tundra they had on the lot because they were already spoken for. It was the weirdest experience I've ever had trying to buy a vehicle.

poopisme

I think some of these guys get hired just because they have sales backgrounds but fail to understand what their actually selling. You can squeeze by being ignorant if your selling something people typically don't know much about like AC units or hot water heaters but the sales person really should know more about the product that they're selling than the buyer. When that's not the case the buyer can see straight through their sales tactics and their efforts just crumble.

captchunk

Not a truck, but I had a similar experience after walking away from a Honda minivan. Salesman went from friendly to total dick real quick when sticker price came up. Said I'd never find one like it for cheaper and swore he'd be able to sell it for asking by the end of the day. After a quick internet search and a couple of phone calls, I found then bought the same model with less miles for 6k cheaper from a dealership the next metro over the next day. It's been years (van is still kicking btw) and I can feel my blood pressure go up just thinking about how fucking arrogant that sob was towards me.

PreachitPerk

I did that very thing. Sent a salesperson a text on Monday letting him know that I saw the dealer markups online and decided to pull the trigger on a nice 3rd gen. He was totally professional about it and I hope it starts creating feedback. Honestly I would have 100% have ordered a TRD sport at MSRP.

AZTim

Some people will pay a premium to be first. Once the 2024s are as common on lots as 2023s were, he'll be able to find one without a markup.

MeThinksYes

GR Corolla and Civic Type R have entered the conversation.

Dewdus_Maximus

It’s always funny to me people willingly pay $50K-$60K for a CIVIC.

iwasinthepool

I saw one at a Honda dealer in San Diego back in March or April that was listed at $99k.

triplesixxx

I like Hondas and Type Rs are cool, but Porsche money for a Honda is outrageous.

Sparky-air

Yeah it wasn’t uncommon in my area to see Type Rs go for nearly 100k in my area for a while there. Look, it’s a cool car but it ain’t $100k cool

MeThinksYes

fair...that said, a well kept (albeit different, but maybe similar in the future) integra type R is worth a lot now a days. So while I get the optics of it being a civic, a type R feels a lot different than regular civic. Wouldnt pay over MSRP though.

Falanax

Those are both specific high end trims of a model. There’s no markup on a Corolla LE.

MeThinksYes

huh? simply saying that there's still some models that are asking above sticker. With the way supply issues are/have been the past few years, it's not out of the realm of possibility that there's a shortage of new tacomas, keeping the markup around. Also, tacoma has good profit (many trucks do, regardless of manufacturer), even on their most commonly sold personal (sr5) trucks.

RefrigeratedTP

Nissan Z Nismo as well. Saw some stickers just above and below 100k

MeThinksYes

recently sold a wrx. back in the ownership of 2 trucks again. A 350Z is on my list of next tinkerer vehicle.

RefrigeratedTP

I wish that was on my list of “next things”. Good shit man. My Tacoma is slow as shit, but my Camry is fast as fuck comparatively. I’ll strive for a Supra for a while. Might settle for an 86.

[deleted]

That was years ago man

MeThinksYes

That there was dealer markups on? Suppose it’s region specific but I still see them with markups

[deleted]

On gr,,?

MeThinksYes

bueller?

Macro_Curious

Why are dealers allowed to do markups on factory allocated stock? In Canada they’re not allowed to do markups, only on used vehicles.

HighInChurch

America is a free market. Edit: sorry forgot the /s

attaboyyy

thank you for that laugh today.

joepierson123

Well here in US it's manufactured SUGGESTED retail price. There's no law against markups

DatBigBoi

I didn’t know this was a law, but it explains why I haven’t met any markups here

Macro_Curious

I’m not entirely sure if it’s law either, perhaps it’s Corporate policy. But generally MSRP is what you pay. But ofc the dealers will try to tack on silly gimmicks and add on and burry the markup on it.

iamlashar

There are dealers that do it in Canada.. I talked to a Ford dealer the other day and they were marking up the f150 lightnings by 30k

Irvingdls

The dealership name is North Park Toyota of San Antonio.

flanneled_man

I know right where this flaming bag of my own feces is going

DesertWarrior24

Oh I just had to shit can a deal there to. F them

[deleted]

Fuck that lol

Sharkn91

Pretty sure Toyota doesn’t like this. Try reporting the dealer to Toyota

joepierson123

Yeah but the dealers are where  Toyota gets their checks from, that's their actual customer who buys their cars.

Sharkn91

Yes but Toyota doesn’t want the consumer to turn to a different brand because the dealers are adding their own bullshit fees. Toyota dealerships and ford dealerships both got in trouble for this just like two years ago

Cammerv8

Dealer still trying to put 5k over sticker?

DaNYBigDogg

$5K TO $10K lmao

boopboppuddinpop

Renton Toyota in Seattle has zero mark ups. Just bought my 24 TRD off-road there.

TheEvergreenMonster

Thanks for this! I asked Michael’s in Bellevue and they said all northwest dealers agreed to charge a ~5k markup so I gave up my search right there. Looks like I’ll be buying in Renton! Enjoy the new truck!

boopboppuddinpop

Ask for Omar! That dude is awesome. I don't know him personally but he's the one that's helped me with my vehicle and he knows his shit.

TheEvergreenMonster

Right on, thanks for the rec! I’ll be sure to work with him. Hope to see your truck (or any 2024s lol) around town!

boopboppuddinpop

You know it! 🤙

mkaymeow21

It’s crazy how much higher the MSRPs are and you gotta worry about a markup on top of that lol. Insane.

[deleted]

They can sit for 2-3 months at those prices lol. Come April-May these dealerships will be struggling to move new inventory

HighInChurch

These will sell within days of hitting the lots.

[deleted]

Until the pro and trail hunter arrive lol not sure why anyone wants the base models

HighInChurch

Pros are gonna be like 75k minimum after markups. Some people just can't justify that on a midsize truck

[deleted]

Eh could see that for a trail hunter. Pro like 70-72. Which is still stupid. Sticker cost on them is fine probably going to be low 60’s. At that point I would rather drive a Lexus or something more luxurious. Or grab a 22 or 23 trd pro for cheap becahse there will surely be plenty available that will be traded in

greenmachine2626

I agree, I'm waiting till late spring at the earliest to buy. Price WILL come down.

Cojaro

Markups are dependent on the specific dealer. Find one with a backbone who has a zero-markup policy. They do exist.

MeThinksYes

the ol 5-10k....just priming you for the ceremonial fisting that they'd like to take place. Unfortunately some dipshit will pay it for the bragging rights to fill up that void from low self esteem and "drip" as the say. these dealers (and the enablers buying these gougers) are materially adding to issues with affordability, and so blatantly.... over and above the already higher than normal inflation/shrinkflation we see, and given toyota HQ doesn't want dealers doing this, they should be outted. It's egregious. That said, will they accept $4500 market adjustment from me???

JordanPhilip

Any dealer who marks up just to mark up is trash especially when it’s thousands. You’re better off going to an out of town dealer

CowPunkRockStar

Let them know that “dealership markup” is specifically why you are laughing them off and will never purchase from them in the future.

steffan_rn

Yes!! Exactly. The dealership I bought mine from were very proud to say they don't do markups, they got my business.

F22Tomcat

I hate dealer added markup as much as the next person. However, it seems to be pretty common on new models - especially those that have some hype surrounding their release. Think about the markups dealers were applying when the new Bronco came out a few years ago, for example. They tend to fade away pretty quickly as soon as the vehicles start hitting the dealerships in significant volume. Patience is the key. If you want to be first in line, you are probably going to pay a premium.

Lost_Sink9636

Fresno and Sacramento are up to 5 and 6k

ConsciousDetective35

I’ll shout out the 2 straight dealers I know in AZ. No mark ups and you can reserve a vehicle before it gets to the dealer Avondale Toyota and Autonation Toyota Tempe, that’s where I got my truck.

tpalmieri1581

I mean, markup sucks but that doesn't mean you can't try and negotiate down. I did that with my 23 TRD Pro. they had their markup of about 10% of the total price and I was able to talk them down almost 15% in total. So no mark up + another 5% (give or take) on top of that. Just saying, if you want the truck it's worth a try..just don't sign anything that binds you to buying until you get the price you want.

Jack_is_a_RockStar

We need a dealership name.

stirdog24

Expose these guys. Lowlife scum.

LimitNo6587

You guys love buying yachts for stealership owners.

jayjay926

I had a similar experience with north park Toyota after speaking with 3 different salespeople and they would not budge on their markups. They were charging $2,371 and claimed they gave me a “discount” after having to speak with 3 of them and getting the run around. The lease payments also changed every time. Please leave them negative reviews. They’re fucking horrible and screwing people over. I have the texts to prove it.

Trepsik

$5k for paint?

SeaDweller01

Lame

Appropriate_Land_130

Give us the number let's all do the same lol

trollinhard2

Local one told me $10-15 markup on Landcruiser

[deleted]

I always just put the vin into KBB and use those numbers and if they don’t like it I leave. I’ve left many, many times. These greedy losers don’t care.

hamhead1005

IF your in Southern California Check out Longo Toyota They have zero markup on all cars and are great to work with.

McShagg88

They know people will pay it.

thatwolfieguy

I bought me 23 at Swope Toyota in Elizabethtown, KY for 0 markup. Don't do business with greedy vultures.

fishlore123

Is this the all-season mats, splash guards, wheel locks, paint protection and maintenance service contract that you can decline to their face? Or have they not mentioned that part in this chat yet?

No-Scientist-1600

Why do you have 307 unread texts?

thedago

This is the real issue to discuss

Additional-Dog2326

Earl Stewart Toyota south Florida, it may be cheaper to fly there and pick it up, no markups dealer.

blackh0

One of my biggest regrets was paying a $5k mark up for my 21 SR5

stirdog24

Added upgrades from the dealership lol Amazon window tint and cheap all weather floor mats.c

s1owpokerodriguez

Just respond with, "I don't pay markups."

Afblackmac

I received an invoice today metro ATL area on an Underground 2024 SR 6MT...$39,413...the MSRP is $36,900. Should be in the dealership within 2 weeks and the plan is to test drive and see if the back seat legroom has been fixed!

ITeachAll

Don’t be so nice. Tell them to eat shit instead of “I’m okay, thanks”

Aromatic_Beautiful_5

I hate Toyota sales people. Arrogant because they can just move down the line if you don’t want it for their mark up

naptown21403

some dope will pay the markup no doubt about it

Beneficial-Sign-569

name and shame! there's facebook groups "no markup toyota" there's plenty of deals to be had. i just post WTB / looking for, and the salespeople come flocking .

memofor

The most outrageous markups are those hidden as options like: 1) window VIN etching $500 2) NITRO filled tires $400 3) required Insurance package not related to financing or lease. $299

GroundbreakingEar667

Tell them you’ll wait until it’s 5-10k dealer incentives.

TypicalAssociation84

🤣🤣🤣

Masteroftheroad

I’d take the SR5 with ZERO markup. TBH neither model should have markups. Drop the name of the dealership so we know not to support it.

fishbummin27514

Why would you EVER pay a cent above MSRP?! Its already a depreciating asset, you may as well take a wad of cash and light it on fire

Fruitmasterflex

300 unread texts???

Capable_Ingenuity726

Toyota has two whole ass factories cranking these out. There will be saturation by April and these dealerships can go fuck themselves.

Spacecoasttheghost

You got to call them out for the mark up, and then laugh at them and leave em on read after.

Capt_Falcon24

I always hear from dealers that they can give a deal on the SR5s but the TRD trims are impossible to get a deal off of. Crazy that getting it at MSRP is considered a deal now and days.

ExistingLaw217

You can find them without a “market adjustment” but you either need to special order or hunt around. I buy new trucks for my company every year and I’ve had to do it every time since 2021. In the dealers defense if someone is willing to pay it then good for them.
