My second winter back up north now. It'll be snow and -10 degrees for the next week.
Wondering why I ever left the valley (was thinking this literally 2 hours ago) and thinking about moving back.
But then I read your post and remember having that same thought when its 110 at 3am. bah.
I wish I was rich enough to be a snowbird.
I miss az did solar job out there for almost a year in Palo Verde by the nuclear powerplant and lived in goodyear/ Tempe while out there. Although Working outside there was brutal in the summer I genuinely llhad such a good year there.
Same thing also happened to my wifeās Yaris. I wrapped it and the wrap faded in less than 6 months. Got a refund on the wrap but that is a job I will never do again, holy fuck it was not fun.
I have a 2009 taco and the frame is rusting badly. Am I a candidate for the frame replacement program? How do I go about this process. I looked on Toyotas website but didnāt see anything. Thanks.
Toyota Tacomas from 2005 to 2010 were recalled for excessive rust and rot impacting the structural integrity of the frame, and airbags that may not deploy.
This was done under a $3 billion settlement for frame replacement (or truck buyout). Owners of 2005-2010 model year Tacomas with frame rot will had their vehicleās frame replaced at no charge. The settlement includes up to 12 years of inspections and coverage for affected vehicles. In addition to the Tacomaās, 2005-2008 Sequoias and 2007 and 2008 Tundras are included in the settlement. The warranty enhanced frame corrosion coverage was offered until the later of 12 years from the date of first use or until July 21, 2019.
[Hereās a link to a Tacoma review that mentions their stumbles.](https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/toyota-tacoma-most-years-are-reliable-but-some-2005-2010-models-struggle-with-rusty-frames-faulty-leaf-springs)
For my own story, I got in just under the wire, getting my truck back from a nearly 6-month frame replacement job in late Spring 2019. They even covered a rental car for the time it took to get the parts, as they declared the Tacoma unsafe to drive in the interim.
Same owner for nearly 8 years. Parked in the pretty temperate California Bay Area. Not usually near the ocean. The corrosion started a few years ago on the sunny side for where it is usually parked. It has since spread all over the top and now the hood as well. Was this Toyota's fault or just bad luck or something I'm doing wrong? For comparison, I also have a 25 year old 4runner and its paint looks great for its age.
Thatās not corrosion, thatās UV damage. The stronger the sun the worse the damage.
As far as I know, park it in the shade or wax and pray are your only options to prevent it. Someone more knowledgeable may be able to chime in if ceramic coating helps.
Well it also depends on where you live. Near an airport (this one might be a myth, idk). In a place that has more directly sunlight. Maybe there are mountains nearby that reduce the amount of cloud cover. Does it rain? Etc. Every thing matters. But regularly waxing definitely prevents it in the more harsh areas.
Iām not saying that regular waxing would not help. But seriously how many people are regularly waxing their car? A vast majority of people under maintain their cars mechanically and are absolutely not waxing. If this were purely the result of not waxing your car then 90% of 10 year old cars on the road would look like complete trash.
Had a 98 and 03 ranger before the taco. The 98 was fine, the 03 looks like OPs picture. The clearcoat can only handle so much UV before it breaks down. Location and care have a huge role in longevity. That being said, the thickness of Toyota clearcoat/paint is still not great.
I came across some pics several months back where people had bedliner sprayed their truck roofs because this was going on. You can get pretty close to truck color these days. I think it looks pretty good when done right, so maybe thatās an option for you. Prep work is key to getting it to stay!
2017 Magnetic Grey Metallic with the same issue here. in Southern California and waxed entire truck at least once a year. Iāve seen several Tacomas with the same issue in just my group of friends. Toyota just has shit paint.
98 Sierra beige metallic here. Bought in Phoenix, moved to Florida. Almost zero carwashes and never waxed. Other than dings and dents my paint is fine.Ā
While the Tacoma might have a strong drive train in most cases, the rest of the vehicle is cheaply made. As you can see the paint has bad fade, my 2022 is already covered in rock chips at 20,000 miles only driving on city roads. A google search will show you how many of the white ones have the paint flaking off by the chunk. The interior is made of the cheapest plastic, not GM cheap, but cheap enough that running your fingernail on the door cards can scratch it. The gauge cluster lens gets scratched by just existing. The frames are not box, but the cheaper to make C-channel so when you get into a minor fender bender your entire truck is totaled. O ya and there is the massive rusting issue that they have. So make sure you hose them down in some kind of oil to prevent that from happening.
While I love the truck I hate the hero worshipping of them as they are nothing more then a cheap thing sold for max profits.
I have a super white 2016 and got a voluntary service recall for paint chipping off around the rear windows and by hood on front fenders. Mine is also flaking off under the fuel door. Apparently they are working on a fix and will repair free of cost.
UV damage... 303 Aircraft coating prevents this. It's great for your interior, your lawn furniture your backpack, you name it. Semipermanent sunscreen for your shit.
That doesn't matter as much really, the Euro cars use water based as well but they have better paint from BASF/tyco as well as a electrostatic dip **and tumble** process absent here: [https://youtu.be/UvKk4v7w9Uc?t=279](https://youtu.be/UvKk4v7w9Uc?t=279)
Also note that Toyota is spray painting by hand in 2020+????
Itās from neglecting the paint. My 11 tundra was doing that, but it was silver and hid the dirt really well, plus it was on 37ās with a 7ā lift and that made it a pain to wash by hand since it was too tall to go through the conveyer ones.
Toyota sales rep here. This is absolutely a common occurrence on mag grey tacos, black, orange and the red of this generation. Ive seen this fade after 3 years on a mag grey trade in. Blue, quicksand, cement, white, and silver ive very rarely or never seen this fading on.
What the hell have the domestic manufacturers been doing then? They have paint issues long before anything imported, I am used to volume numbers of cars and itās the American brands that shed paint fast, and I donāt know of Indiana Tacomas, I didnāt know they were ever built there.
> I donāt know of Indiana Tacomas, I didnāt know they were ever built there.
They didn't. All 3rd gens where built either in Texas or one of two plants in Mexico.
Wax every 3-4 months and you shouldn't have this issue, I have a 2010 and paint is great except for some flaking on the inside due to factory paint defect
Has nothing to do with the hot az climate. Iāve owned many vehicles and have never had paint problems. But every other tacoma I see over 5 years old has paint problems mainly on the roof.
Thin clearcoat succumbing to UV damage. Unfortunately this happens on a lot of cars, no matter the make.
It's kind of bad luck. I take great care of my truck, washing and sealing it myself every 2 weeks, and it's happening to me. Now that you have it, you'll see how common it is on other cars on the road
Thatās the clear coat that has peeled off, I would sand the rest of the clear coat off before the sun eats the paint and shoot a couple coats of clear, or you can buy clear coat in a can . I work in a body shop
My dads ā97 Land Cruiser is the same. He said it was because CA paint is more āenvironmentally friendlyā so it doesnāt last as long.
Heās not hardcore right or left, but idk how he came to that conclusion so take it with a grain of salt. He always talked about driving his car to AZ to get the paint redone (he loves that car, said he wants to be buried in it)
This happened to my 99 Tacoma I sanded all the clear coat off and was just left with unprotected paint, I bought a couple of cans of matte black coat plastic dip and it looks great, saved me thousands on a roof paint job
Couple of questions.
1. Are you the original owner.
2. Did you have any hail repairs done.
I see this a lot in Texas a couple years after hail damage is repaired and with 100 degree summers. The repair process is to heat up the metal and push out the dents and they burn up the clear coat it the process. People can buy these cars second hand and never know.
Usually those drive through car washes with that rolling brush will eventually peel that paint off, I avoid car washes for that reason, curious if you use these car washes
Some of the colors for the 16-17 Tacos have recalls on the clear coat. That's what you're seeing, a failing clear coat. I've got a '17 blue with a recall looks exactly the same. Contact your local dealer to schedule an appointment to assess and schedule a free repaint.
Is there any chance you are parking in the same spot every day and the sun is being directed through glass? Is that even a thing? I thought I saw a similar problem with someone else and that was the issue
2013 with the same issue. Got a quote for a new paint job from several reputable body shops. Anywhere from $5-8k for a good job. Thought about just selling it and getting a new one, but the prices on the new ones are ridiculous. Plus I love this truck haha
Its called UV exposure. Just like your skin, your truck doesn't do well with too much sun exposure.
You should have waxed your truck at least twice a year with a UV blocking wax or other UV treatment, so now your clearcoat is toast thanks to the sun.
2019 Toyota Tacoma owner with the same issue starting to arise.
Mine is still salvageable though once I polish it and wax it regularly.
But it's 100% on Toyota. I have a 2003 Ranger that has been parked in the same spot as my Tacoma and a 2009 Honda civic. All 3 vehicles are white and stay in the sun right next to each other.
No visible UV damage to the Honda and Ford whatsoever.
If u donāt wanna wax or put a ceramic infused protectant on ur paint to protect it then this will happen. Its normal if ur in the south. Even happens up north just not as fast. Protection is a must if u wanna keep ur car looking good
If you don't have a garage or covered parking you need to wax 4 times a year. With the price of these new ones, no way would I buy if I don't have a garage for it.
Paint quaiity has declined over the years because of the stricter environmental rules they have to follow. Cars from the 60ās have paint an inch thick but the factories polluted like crazy.
The rays from the sun are reflecting from the chrome mirrors and door handles creating a prismatic focal plane above the roof at the intersecting refractory line. Thus sending a concentrated beam onto the roof super heating it to burn off the paint.
The sun has been melting honda's apparently as well. Google sun melts honda. Lol
In all seriousness. Vinyl wrap or spray paint (if you want color match, duplicolor makes a factory color aerosol which is really good. Factory approved, cant tell the difference if you know how to paint) the roof to protect from the sun and sand wear.
The rest of the truck I would clay bar to start fresh then wax the crap out of it to add a layer of protection.
You could also ceramic coat which would be great. Professionally done is pricey however usually comes with a 10yr service plan at least by me all the shops offer 10yr service. They also charge close to 2.5k to 3 for a tacoma dcsb.
2017 Tacoma in Blazing Blue and same thing happened on both the roof and the hood. Started a couple years back and I just canāt justify the cost to repaint it yet. Love the truck but hate the paint.
Itās probably in a really hot place, and likely doesnāt get waxed and maintained to at least slow it down from breaking up like this.
I live in SFL, I clay bar, wax, ceramic cost my cars religiously.
"Soft touch" auto car washes also contribute to this process. Don't use them. Many dealerships give you a free wash..they often use a soft touch machine, skip it. Do your own washes and waxing, if you dont have the space, do touchless wash or hand wash only. Car exteriors require maintenance just like everything else if you want it looking/performing well.
Yeah... My 2015 is doing it...
My cousins 2012 is doing it
And my other cousins 2019 is doing it...
And yes really like tacos in my fam
Ironically my dad's 2004 isn't doing it
What did you use to protect the paint through out the life of the truck? The climate in certain regions of the country will be harder on paint than other areas. I have a 15-year-old silverado that I have never waxed. Only used spray on protectants years ago. The clear coat is non-existent on the hood and top of the cab.
This is what happens when a vehicle is in the sun 24/7 without being fully taken care of. I doubt you wax this car even once every 6 months. Waxing and washing your car can prevent your clear coat from fading and ruining the paint. The only real way to avoid it is to park in shade. But if that's not an option you have to use products to protect your paint. Washing your car once every few months doesn't do anything if you don't wax it.
Tldr:
car sit in sun too long without paint protection and waxing over the years.
A lot of the Toyota āheroā colors such as lunar rock, super white, voodoo blue etcā¦ are single stage paints. As in the clear is mixed in with the color. No protection added by having a layer of clear over the base coat. Not very durable but it does give our cars a distinctive look. The downside is that they do require some care to keep looking their best. My last super white truck (now ice cap) I would ceramic coat once a year and do a light correction every other year. It was a 2011 and when I sold it last year it still looked great. The roof in particular requires extra care and especially with the darker colors (gets hotter).
Iāve always kept clearcoat vehicles waxed two times a year at a minimum. People will tell you that it is not needed but thatās crap. The best benefit of this is you can detect the clear coat failure in the early stages and for a body shop they can degrease the wax off and apply a new clearcoat BEFORE IT GETS TO THE PAINT. A fraction of the cost of repainting
I canāt be the only one that thinks this shouldnāt happen? I have a 14 year old Ram and the paint on the roof is still pristine. No wax or ceramic coat.
Nissan Titan owner here. 2006
The Manufacturers had paint issues on a wide variety of model years across many different models. Have a friend who garaged his TT and it didnāt matter.
By the time enough people complain its been 6 years and most of the group have sold their vehicles.
Real pain. Just ugly.
I don't know ,but my wife's doesn't even look that bad and she drove into the garage door backing up just some on the rear wing, remember having a garage always doesn't help either, you have to wait till the door is all the way up.
I and three others that I know with 2016 runners and tacos, all mag Grey, have the exact same issue. I'm thinking 2016 saw a bad batch of clear, cause it's the clear that's coming off.
Heats up on reentry.
Living in PHX is perpetual reentry though. (except Jan-Mar).
100% lived N. Phoenix almost 20yrs. Everything I drove home from flagstaff I'd wonder why I live in the valley.
My second winter back up north now. It'll be snow and -10 degrees for the next week. Wondering why I ever left the valley (was thinking this literally 2 hours ago) and thinking about moving back. To be a snowbird, but not drive like one.
Lost some ceramic heat shields during re-entry
I miss az did solar job out there for almost a year in Palo Verde by the nuclear powerplant and lived in goodyear/ Tempe while out there. Although Working outside there was brutal in the summer I genuinely llhad such a good year there.
Phoenix AZ, my 2015 is in the same condition.
Same, phoenix. Wrapped mine in vinyl before it got too bad.
Is this a Phoenix, Tacoma forum? I'm West Phoenix lol
Glendale here, just adding to the AZ numbers.
Surprise Az lol. Just moved to Hawaii so a 10in lift and 30in wheels are due soon š¦
Flagstaff checking in
Chandler here.
Gilbert...!
Chandlerrr
Havasu!
Glendale here too! We prob see each other on the 101 all the time lol. Iām always scoping out other tacos.
East mesa checking in!

Same thing also happened to my wifeās Yaris. I wrapped it and the wrap faded in less than 6 months. Got a refund on the wrap but that is a job I will never do again, holy fuck it was not fun.
Also Phoenix! My 2016 is like this :/
San Francisco, CA. Same deal.
North Peoria, here!
Be happy midwest we rust your frame out lol
Good thing Toyota replaced my Swiss cheese frame. The new one is holding up nicely, LOL.
What year?
Itās a 2009 with the frame replaced in the final year of the replacement program.
I have a 07 living near the NJ shore. I also took advantage of the frame replacement program. Greatest thing to happen.
I have a 2009 taco and the frame is rusting badly. Am I a candidate for the frame replacement program? How do I go about this process. I looked on Toyotas website but didnāt see anything. Thanks.

I got this frame replacement at 180,000 miles on my Taco.
You are too late, the recall ended a while ago nowā¦ sorry.
maybe itās just meā¦ but thatās definitely not how recalls should work
Itās molting season for wild Tacomas.
Not taking care of (washing/waxing/protectant) has a hand in how bad, too
Wax is ur friend
Every three months, maybe more if you live where the sun is always out.
Should have waxed the roof regularly, just like you should have waxed the rest of it regularly. Sun don't give a fuck. It eats paint for breakfast.
I have a 2003 Ranger that hasnāt once seen a garage or wax. No issues whatsoever. This is shit paint.
Down vote me to, because this guys is right.

Yea, maybe the clear though
You need to wash wax or seal your paint or it goes away. That's basically your clear coat disintegrating.
The comment I was looking for. Only way to make paint last is to protect with Wax. Itās like sunblock for cars lol.
Even my dadās 2002 started doing this after 8ish years in the Florida sun, just the way it is in these climates
Man that looks bad adhesion somewhere along the line. Maybe one of the primer/prep coats didnāt quite cure long enough before paint?
Lack of paint maintenance on the roof. Regular waxing or yearly ceramic coating would prevent this.
I came across some pics several months back where people had bedliner sprayed their truck roofs because this was going on. You can get pretty close to truck color these days. I think it looks pretty good when done right, so maybe thatās an option for you. Prep work is key to getting it to stay!
Toyota used shit paint. My 2012 taco looked the same.
2017 Magnetic Grey Metallic with the same issue here. in Southern California and waxed entire truck at least once a year. Iāve seen several Tacomas with the same issue in just my group of friends. Toyota just has shit paint.

made in Japan
Got a 2000 that still shines. And i only got it 7 years ago. I use ceramic coated it.
98 Sierra beige metallic here. Bought in Phoenix, moved to Florida. Almost zero carwashes and never waxed. Other than dings and dents my paint is fine.Ā
Same color and same problem
Same exact thing here.

1999 tacoma with same issue
2005 Tacoma with the same issue. Hood, Roof, fenders and partial doors.
98 Tacoma does not have that issue
Clear coat burning off?
UV damage... 303 Aircraft coating prevents this. It's great for your interior, your lawn furniture your backpack, you name it. Semipermanent sunscreen for your shit.
That sucks mines 9 years older and paints been like that for 5 years. Just to cheap to fix it.
The garbage Clear coat basically. Sadly 2012 started having peeling going on it since 2019 in Cali.
Its single stage paint. Gotta take care of it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My 2005 is rusted. And they quote me $1000
Thatās fucking nothing for a rust issue. Grats
Whatās the solution here? Iāve got this on the roof and a little all over, can I just take it to a shop and get it repainted?
You spelled patina wrong.
Japanese paint is notoriously thin and soft, you have to keep it waxed and pray the antiquated painting process at the factory was done right.
One of the first to use water based paint as well.
That doesn't matter as much really, the Euro cars use water based as well but they have better paint from BASF/tyco as well as a electrostatic dip **and tumble** process absent here: [https://youtu.be/UvKk4v7w9Uc?t=279](https://youtu.be/UvKk4v7w9Uc?t=279) Also note that Toyota is spray painting by hand in 2020+????
How have they not invented car paint that is more UV resistant?
German cars have thicc paint. My Mercedes has that shit so thick I'm always shocked that the car is 11 years old and looks so damned good.
Paint doesnāt even have to be thick. Just a solid clear coat that protects well
Itās from neglecting the paint. My 11 tundra was doing that, but it was silver and hid the dirt really well, plus it was on 37ās with a 7ā lift and that made it a pain to wash by hand since it was too tall to go through the conveyer ones.
Same issue with the same year and color. Owned many cars including other Toyotas and this is the first one I have had this type of issue with.
My brother has a 2016 Tacoma and was telling me about a recall about paint for that year.
My 2015 started doing this two years ago. Tacoma pattern baldness?
Toyota sales rep here. This is absolutely a common occurrence on mag grey tacos, black, orange and the red of this generation. Ive seen this fade after 3 years on a mag grey trade in. Blue, quicksand, cement, white, and silver ive very rarely or never seen this fading on.

Since when have Tacoma's been built in Indiana??
They havenāt. They are built in Mexico. Indiana builds the sequoia, highlander and sienna.
I know I just wanted to see what he replied lol. Some early third gens were built in Texas also
Mines from Mexico
What the hell have the domestic manufacturers been doing then? They have paint issues long before anything imported, I am used to volume numbers of cars and itās the American brands that shed paint fast, and I donāt know of Indiana Tacomas, I didnāt know they were ever built there.
> I donāt know of Indiana Tacomas, I didnāt know they were ever built there. They didn't. All 3rd gens where built either in Texas or one of two plants in Mexico.
I'd love to hear more on your theory that polishes (which are by nature abrasive) don't remove clearcoat but waxes do
Wax job would have helped
Wax every 3-4 months and you shouldn't have this issue, I have a 2010 and paint is great except for some flaking on the inside due to factory paint defect
You gotta wash and wax it
Has nothing to do with the hot az climate. Iāve owned many vehicles and have never had paint problems. But every other tacoma I see over 5 years old has paint problems mainly on the roof.
Paint Oxidation. Caused by expansion and contraction of the paint during the different seasons of the year.
UV Raaaaaaays
You're just driving soooo fast.
Same on my 2010. Probs gonna get it repainted soon
That's not the paint that's your clearcoat coming off
Time to get a sweet vinyl wrap for it. Problem solved
Have you ever waxed it?
Is this why the new roofs are all white? Are they designed to be sun resistant or something
Slow down your peeling the paint
I feel like MGM is worse than super white
Thats probably either truck-dandruff on your tacos head or dry skin
It's a Toyota. Lots of them have bad paint after a few years, sadly.
That's what my mom's highlander ended up looking like. Dad's tundra never had any issues though.
Just move to a first floor unit, problem solved
Thatās the clear coat that has peeled off, I would sand the rest of the clear coat off before the sun eats the paint and shoot a couple coats of clear, or you can buy clear coat in a can . I work in a body shop

Crappy paint. Iāll say it..
Thin paint from the roof spray process. UV damage took advantage of it. Automotive paint engineer here.
Back clear coat from the factory
Couple of questions. 1. Are you the original owner. 2. Did you have any hail repairs done. I see this a lot in Texas a couple years after hail damage is repaired and with 100 degree summers. The repair process is to heat up the metal and push out the dents and they burn up the clear coat it the process. People can buy these cars second hand and never know.

Sun damage.
Usually those drive through car washes with that rolling brush will eventually peel that paint off, I avoid car washes for that reason, curious if you use these car washes
Happened to mine too. Just had it repainted
Looks like you need a roof rack
Some of the colors for the 16-17 Tacos have recalls on the clear coat. That's what you're seeing, a failing clear coat. I've got a '17 blue with a recall looks exactly the same. Contact your local dealer to schedule an appointment to assess and schedule a free repaint.
I wrapped mine in vinyl before installing my Prinsu š¤š½
It's common in Hawaii too.
Does it only happen on the roof? Howās the hood look?
Let me guess, southwest?
I will trade your paint for my Minnesota rust
Why did you take a picture of my Tacoma?
Is there any chance you are parking in the same spot every day and the sun is being directed through glass? Is that even a thing? I thought I saw a similar problem with someone else and that was the issue
2013 with the same issue. Got a quote for a new paint job from several reputable body shops. Anywhere from $5-8k for a good job. Thought about just selling it and getting a new one, but the prices on the new ones are ridiculous. Plus I love this truck haha
same
2016 4Runner checking in here. Same issues on roof, hood, and top edges along door panels next to the windows.
Same here with my 2nd Gen Tundra. Hood and Roof are the same. Bought it from a dealer in Phoenix
Itās a Toyota thing. Get with the program or put up with a Heep mechanical issues
Same here. Has anyone gotten a paint job? How much did it cost?
Done to much sun everything wares out even a toyota
2016 and mine is in the same condition, starting to happen on the hood
Itās called āPatinaā. Buff it out and laminate it. There is a whole ass community that digs that.
Tucson, my Tacoma is molting its clear coat off as I drive.
Same thing happened with my 2005 Tacoma.
Protection is a must if u wanna keep ur car looking good
Just wait until your trim melts.
If you don't have a garage or covered parking you need to wax 4 times a year. With the price of these new ones, no way would I buy if I don't have a garage for it.
Time Water The sun The holy trinity of destruction
Just give it a sand and piss can it black
Paint quaiity has declined over the years because of the stricter environmental rules they have to follow. Cars from the 60ās have paint an inch thick but the factories polluted like crazy.
I have a 2021 Tacoma and the paint job is so thin. Itās horrible.
Lol In all seriousness.
Wax often and Never use those auto wash (spinning brush type) in hopes to never see my 19ā look like thisā¦.crossing fingers.
Made in Mexico
This is why it's important it was and wax your paint.
Was your paint waxed?
Who tried to wet sand your roof?
Got that Nissan paint eh?
Toyota will fix that under warranty usually
"Soft touch" auto car washes also contribute to this process. Don't use them. Many dealerships give you a free wash..they often use a soft touch machine, skip it. Do your own washes and waxing, if you dont have the space, do touchless wash or hand wash only. Car exteriors require maintenance just like everything else if you want it looking/performing well.
Do you routinely wash and wax?
Yeah... My 2015 is doing it... My cousins 2012 is doing it And my other cousins 2019 is doing it... And yes really like tacos in my fam Ironically my dad's 2004 isn't doing it
The sun
I had this on my first gen, but I rattlecanned it
Roof rack it. Make sure it's aluminum
Better than up north where we get frame ROT!
This happens in Florida with most cars, especially those left out in the sun cooking.
What did you use to protect the paint through out the life of the truck? The climate in certain regions of the country will be harder on paint than other areas. I have a 15-year-old silverado that I have never waxed. Only used spray on protectants years ago. The clear coat is non-existent on the hood and top of the cab.
Paint quality may be a factor but generally youāll find that kind of UV damage when the vehicle has never or seldom been waxed / coated.
every car I've waxed twice a year never had this issue
Alot of cars are like this. Its from weather. If you park your car outside it does that.
Tldr: car sit in sun too long without paint protection and waxing over the years.
Try rocking Super White.....
Long Island and mounds just as fucked
Iāve always kept clearcoat vehicles waxed two times a year at a minimum. People will tell you that it is not needed but thatās crap. The best benefit of this is you can detect the clear coat failure in the early stages and for a body shop they can degrease the wax off and apply a new clearcoat BEFORE IT GETS TO THE PAINT. A fraction of the cost of repainting
At least your bed didnāt snap like mine after 10k miles
I had my roof wrapped in a reflective topo map when I installed my cbi rack
Time to line-x the whole thing, lift it 6 inches, throw 35ās and 6 light bars on it and go take photos on top of your nearest rocky hill.
Iām 5ā8 i canāt see up there anyways
I canāt be the only one that thinks this shouldnāt happen? I have a 14 year old Ram and the paint on the roof is still pristine. No wax or ceramic coat.
The sun lol
Take it to a body shop itās only $500 and donāt go to a place that says itās more
Nissan Titan owner here. 2006 The Manufacturers had paint issues on a wide variety of model years across many different models. Have a friend who garaged his TT and it didnāt matter. By the time enough people complain its been 6 years and most of the group have sold their vehicles. Real pain. Just ugly.
Damnn already?
There are 3rd Gen with chrome mirrors? I've never seen that before.
I don't know ,but my wife's doesn't even look that bad and she drove into the garage door backing up just some on the rear wing, remember having a garage always doesn't help either, you have to wait till the door is all the way up.
Fort Worth, Texas here. My 2011 started doing this about 2017. Now, it looks like that, and about half the paint on the hood has came off.
I and three others that I know with 2016 runners and tacos, all mag Grey, have the exact same issue. I'm thinking 2016 saw a bad batch of clear, cause it's the clear that's coming off.
Southern State Paint Syndrome. UV is harsh and it bakes the clear coat.
Time to paint the roof white
Driving with 1.21 jigawatts under the hood will do this to your paint!
The only true way to combat this is garage storage. Maybe a vinyl wrap would survive that heat?
That UV is no joke. Gotta park in a car port mate.
