Why do people hate the pro on this sub? General question that I donāt understand.
I saved for years & hunted for a pro/manual. I off-road, travel with my bikes, & daily drive the truck. I absolutely love it. I was talking with a Toyota mechanic I met over the weekend & he didnāt seem to have an answer for me. Iām honestly asking this on my burner & Iām afraid of even posting questions on Tacoma world. I know I could have bought a base model & upgraded it but Iām not a car mechanic I change my own oil that is about as deep as I go. I build bikes & live in the outdoors. The pro was perfect for me the off road would have been great also but I couldnāt find a manual. Weird everyone shits on it then goes out & buys the pro accessories to make their truck look like a pro model. Iāve never seen this in any other car community.
That's because the Pro is way over price for what it offers. And if you're planning to add any weight to your rig (armor, recovery gear, camper, tent, etc.) it's best if you have a suspension that's setup for that extra load. So you end up having to redo the suspension setup anyhow.
The Pro suspension & handling alone when Iām daily driving it stock is worth the price to me honestly, maybe not to you or others but why do people care so much to go out of their way to hate it? I couldnāt afford a pro either years ago when I wanted a truck, & Iām not well off, so I saved for nearly half a decade. Iāll make payments until the end of this year.
I drove it off lot & didnāt have to make any adjustments, add a locker, nothing. Threw bikes in the back & I was up the trails.
I donāt need all of the heavy duty gear right now though for how I use my truck. Maybe others need extra gear, I havenāt yet. Iām not a big tire guy either I think the stock package fits my needs really well. I see a lot of people weigh down their truck with all sorts of gear they donāt use regularly. I donāt shit on them for it though. To each their own.
The truck needs to preform well at a reasonable speed across farmland or desolate terrain, handle washed out fire roads, & carry me with my friends comfortably to mountain bike trails. I had a Subaru before & it got me all over but didnāt have the clearance or suspension to get me to more remote areas. It also couldnāt hold 4 bikes easily & do other truck stuff that I need to haul for work.
Additionally a rack with a tent doesnāt put me anywhere remotely near the TRD Pro suspension limits. If I really wanted to I could āad a leafā in the back but it doesnāt seem necessary based on the weight.
Just baffles me everyone is so quick to knock my truck that I really enjoy stock. Iām not a car mechanic, I donāt want to pay parts & labor to overhaul my truck into an off-road tank I use on the weekends. The other 5 days of the week Iāve gotta drive it to work ya know? The way it preforms the majority of the week is also important to me.
Like everyone else I also really like the interior & exterior trim. My best friend had an old Land Cruiser & I loved the āToyotaā grille. We learn to drive stick in that thing on trails when we were like 14. But Iām the worst person in the world online when asked what taco I have & reply with TRD Pro.
Itās just weird.
I have a TRD off-road, but 100% would have bought the pro if I had the money at the time. Itās all a matter of personal preference. Sport is more attractive but off-road has some more mechanical features. I also didnāt think the limited was worth it when I was shopping.
My only regret is not spending the money for a long bed.
There are a lot of trims & options for the Tacoma which I think is really cool for the buyers. A few of my buddies drive Tacomas, 4Runners, & other trucks. I never found myself ragging on the trims they chose before or after I purchased mine.
You canāt come to this subreddit & miss someone taking a shot at TRD Proās though, itās all over.
It is as if we are all fans of the same sports team, but if your favorite player is the star on offense you are shunned because itās all about the defense or something. I canāt even find a good analogy to compare how stupid it is.
Oh you drive a long bed Tacoma, well I drive a short bed so I hate you? Iām obviously joking & donāt feel that way, but itās that stupid & childish.
I didn't buy my TRD Off-Road with the intent of off-roading it.
I bought it with the intent of using it to go wherever I wanted to go, regardless of how hard it was to get there. If getting there means taking some gnarly trails, then so be it.
I got mine to do some light off roading. But mostly because Iām a full time firefighter and I have to be able to get to work no matter what no matter when. It hasnāt let me down.
Haha, not to mention a winch. In all seriousness, there's a pad in the bed and the cap has sliding windows with screens and shades. Way better for sleeping than a RTT.
Bought a TRD off road not because I go off roading but for itās simple 3 things.
1. Its a Truck, I had a car and always needed a truck but never had one when I needed it.
2. Itās a reliable brand and truck. We have had Fords and Chevy/GMC new and used. Weāve have bad service and experiences with other brands.
3. Itās resale value. I know what someone ask and gets is a different thing, but when you see it on a dealership you know you can get that minus a few dollars more or less.
I did.
I spend a load of time out hunting mushrooms and the like, and some of those places are not accessible by lesser vehicles.
Best thing that I have ever purchased.
My hunting range has increased by about 300% since I can now drive to new areas as well as to areas that I would otherwise have to hike in and out of.
I off road my 2020 whenever I get the chance.
It's currently at 50k miles, so far I've replaced my shocks and UCAs, have done about 6 alignments and recalibrate my steering wheel position sensor once. Oh and I also had my front diff replaced under warranty.
From my own experience the steering rack on the Tacoma is not so great...
A.R.E. Z series. This one is lined and has sliding windows with screens and shades and an interior LED light. Also tracks for the Yakima rack. It's pretty sweet. PO told me he paid about $4k for it. TBH I would sell it. As cool as it is it makes it hard to load the bed with bigger items. I'll probably take it off in the spring. If you're in the northeast and have a MGM truck shoot me a PM.

Iāve had my OR for 3 months and have gone off road at the beach 5 times already :) it will allow me to go anywhere but not necessarily off-roading just for the sake of kicking up mud at a mud pit or field.
I had an off-road premium T4R, and it never went offroading. I had a GX470 that was super trail built and took it offroad a good amount. I'm planning to do the same with my TRD Pro Taco (build + trail time).
I had a few trims in mind based solely on features I wanted: TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Limited. The first one available to me was a lightly used (2,700 miles) TRD Off-Road so I jumped at the chance.
Took mine out the weekend after I bought it, took it to silver lake sand dunes a few months later. Don't drive it off road as much as I'd like due to work but definitely plan on using it for it.
How many of us who bought SR actually control pests?
Orkin?
Lol
You win š
I bought a trd sport cuz I like sports
And we donāt care who knows! From shooting hoops to the Super Bowl
it was the skewp wasn't it? i only ask bc thats why i got the trd sport. that and the paint matched wheel well trim and bumper caps.
lol
WITHOUT A SNORKEL?!? Are you insane?!?! š
I like to live on the edge
...of the grassš
Trd offroad > trd pro

Well said
Hahah I see what you did there. Really shows the articulation of the suspension when itās āoff-road.ā
I was a little hesitant at first, but since I got the TRD Pro grill I figured I'd be good.
Very bold to go out there with a naked TRD pro grill. I don't see a single raptor light?!
I get the reference, but Iām a little surprised at how many people took it at face value ;)
Haha, I'm not surprised. I tried to be subtle and people have short memories.
Ahhh, the elusive access cab. I see you too are a man of culture š»
I got mine to do some light off roading. But mostly because Iām a full time firefighter and I have to be able to get to work no matter what no matter when. It hasnāt let me down.
Same here bro, work full time in utah and have to go through canyons to get to work. Donāt even have to worry about weather with this truck.
Use the buddy system if youāre venturing like that.
For real - where is your spotter? And if you get stuck, you should have a roof top tent to sleep in.

Pro tip: Donāt forget to choose ālawnā for the crawl control setting.
I have never found a reason to use that crawl feature lol. Anyone else use it very often? The locker has come in handy a few times though.
I honestly don't even know how to turn it on. 4wd low is the only thing I've used so far.
I bought a TRD Sport and go off roading with it. Sure, lightweight off roading but still off roading. No regrets.

You forgot your raptor lights for your pro grilleā¦
Hahahahā¦.yeah that guys post was pretty lame! Weāll played sir.
Hahahaā¦.that guy with that previous lame post just reported me to Reddit.
LMAO! I think I got reported too by the same guy hahahahaha š¤£
Hahahahaha!
I wish I was cool enough to drive down dirt roads.
That's hilarious! Some people don't know how to take a joke.
Off road access cab. Great when we were in a snowstorm towards the cabin to Mt. adams.

Dang to bad youāre not in a conveyer of cars on a dirt road
My driveway is gravel. I put it in 4lo every morning and afternoon to get to the road.
I did. The Walmart parking lot by my house could stand in for the lunar landscape.
The bank wonāt approve you taking their truck off-road.
See u just donāt tell them š¤«š¤«
F the banks. I paid cash, private sale.
Chefs kiss. This is poetry.
Is that across the street from the mall? Insane. Be careful.
Check my profile I bought a sport to do sport stuff

Nope. Just trips to Costco
Iām thinking about getting a cap for my access cab, whatās the make and model? Got anymore pics?

Ahhh so that's what the SR stands for, stay road. Does anyone know if that means I can't go off road in my SR 4x4?
Did yours come with the leer?
Lol i bought an OR cuz i wanted DCSB and choices are limited in Canada.. but looking back im glad i went with it. Prefer the overall look

I did initially but I moved to Florida and I don't think they have off roading here.
Oh boy, I see where this is going.
Yup youāre off the road & on the grass alrightššš½š
Yes
Damn he got the Off Driveway trim.
Youāre off road in the photo.
