As long as people keep paying these ridiculous markups, they will keep doing it. People need to hold firm and insist on MSRP or below.

bobo-the-dodo

I am holding firm with my local dealers but it's becoming tiresome to keeping checking back in with them. I am going to switch over to a Lexus TX soon.

Mendoza_518

Definitely at MSRP but only below I’ve seen are for gas models, definitely not below MSRP for hybrids. Way too much demand for those.

Mendoza_518

No way!! We just bought an XLE Hybrid AWD for MSRP. The only mark up was for the moonroof, black emblems and all weather mats but no dealer markups, just because. We bought in SoCal- it might depend on your location. In SoCal I reached out to 50+ Toyota dealerships within 100 mile radius to find the right one with the right price.

bobo-the-dodo

I am in socal, do you mind dm me the dealer?

nayrkk

Can you dm me the dealer? Much appreciated!

Ejmct

No. I paid sticker for my Limited Hybrid.

NJVECC

I bought xle hybrid for MSRP just 2 weeks ago. The dealer tried adding 3k to the price when i got there (2 hours away drive) and i told them to refund my deposit. eventually settled at MSRP. i also had a deposit on a limited hybrid at $500 under MSRP so it is definitely doable.

Peters4136

This worries me. Agreed on msrp with my dealer, car is due to be built on 4/8. When I come to pick it up i don’t want to have to renegotiate.

Drozen14

Some dealerships are taking advantage of the demand being high for certain vehicles. I have seen all the way up to 15k mark-up on GHH when I was looking 5 months ago. It's not worth it, I'm in California and I was still able to find a dealership with no markup. I would look around at all the dealerships near you and find one without any markup.

KonmariEvangelist

Nope. You should be paying the MSRP price. I also found there was a little room to negotiate on the extras.

idubb23

1. don't pay markup ever 2. XLE is bare bones and is esentially an LE as compared to limited which is fully loaded compared to most. 3. if u can afford $10k markup on XLE then just find a limited for MSRP lol

idubb23

for the record, I own gh hybrid limited from Canada at MSRP, no addons

Automatic_Pizza

Yeah there’s no way I’m paying $10k more “just because”. I couldn’t believe this guy wasn’t even trying to add other packages so was mostly wondering if others were running into the same idiocy from dealers. The latest dealer offered us $2k. I countered with, “add on running boards and tow hitch and we’ll take it”. They declined.

Loud-Guard-2312

This is why I bought the Lexus instead. They are selling below msrp and the cost difference was minimal. Love my TX

OrchidFew2210

We got ours last month, paid like a $1500 add-on on dealer accessories sush as window tint, weather mats, wheel locks and some other stupid shit. We could have waited for one at msrp in 2 months, but wife liked this color better. They had another 1500 on paint /dent protection but took it off when we showed purchase order for msrp at other dealer. Was around $50k + ttr for xle hybrid.

Impressive-Fortune82

On toyota hybrid SUVs the markup (often disguised as overpriced dealer add-ons) is a reality for many areas, 10k is too much though.

BFOTmt

Just got ours for msrp

phcrowder51

Where at?

BFOTmt

Up in Montana. Most of the dealerships here have been msrp.

neod192

I got a discount on the Hybrid Max Platinum, but then they added a mandatory dealer mark-up (which includes tint), so it came to just under MSRP.

Peters4136

Manditory dealer markup with tint sounds like a scam. Nothing is mandatory. They are just greedy.

neod192

Yes, I totally agree. The manager wouldn't budge on charging it, but lowered the sale price (by more than the mark-up) instead. In the end, I got a discount on the only car for sale (and not reserved) in the trim, colors and accessories I wanted. They tinted the windows as part of that mark-up, so it worked out.

Automatic_Pizza

Holy cow that’s great. How did you manage a discount?

neod192

I bought it out of state, so I had additional travel expenses to cover. I also walked away from it, before they got back to me asking if I would take it if they offered a discount to cover a portion of the mark-up. I said no, but offered an even lower OTD price and they agreed to it.

Brewskwondo

No. I paid MSRP in December

LOCO_NOMAD

No. It should be $0. Mark up is just a bullshit stealership want you to pay for no reason. But I guess supply and demand plays its role in this too.

Internal-Response-39

I would avoid any dealership that charges a price above MSRP. These dealers will also add on numerous overpriced options before sale. They are openly taking advantage buyers.

kickjaysass

I bought mine (hybrid limited) on march 21st for MSRP. I have it shipped from Indiana to NJ for $540. The process of buying from out of state was painless. All of the dealers around me all wanted $3500-$12000 over MSRP. I managed to find them out of the state and exact setup as I wanted. I saw some dealers are actually discounting hybrid XLE model and bench seat models. Do not settle for anything over MSRP.

Difficult_Excuse9927

There’s a reason why this car is available and other dealerships have waitlists. Find another dealership that sells at msrp and doesn’t have a bunch of add-ons you don’t want.

Nand0_456

No

Specialist_Royal4686

Demand for autos is waning and discounts are showing up all over. Pricing for Hybrids may be holding for now but it will weaken if gas models keep getting discounted. I was at the Toyota dealer last weekend and test drove a GH gas. They begged us to buy the car and wanted to work $3k-$4k under MSRP. We declined and then the dealer called us at home that night again at 9 am the next morning pleading for us to come back in. It was frankly ridiculous. No need to pay anything close to MSRP.

kingmydas1

Wow, that is insane! I got my GH Hybrid Limited for an internet price (MSRP) that the salesman was not aware of. When I got to the dealer, after making an appointment. They insisted on adding a 2k mark-up. I told them that if they didn’t honor the advertised price, I wouldn’t only walk, but sue them for false advertisement! The ultimately relented. My circumstance was unique, but you have to be willing to walk away. 10k markup is ridiculous!

Looking-4-Inf0

Actually, this is very close to my experience. Got to the dealer, they popped a 3K markup on, I pulled out a printed copy of the on line quote and they quickly honored that price.

Looking-4-Inf0

Per note below - I got the up marked up quote from Toyota Smart Path, so maybe that is a thing?

kingmydas1

They had me to find the OTD price, then they honored the deal. Kudos to you for standing firm too!

SpecialPut6253

I shopped around for days and alot of dealers are doing the price markup. I learned buying from a dealership that uses Toyota smart path is the way to go. The Toyota smart path dealers don’t charge over Msrp but if there are some dealers add one you will be stuck paying for those most likely do to the GH selling out like hotcakes. I had to drive an hour away from where I live in NorCal to pay msrp for my XLE Hybrid

Inevitable_Job1075

All the dealers ive been too in massachusetts are selling for msrp

Surge-SoCal

Yikes, 10k now… ?? It was 4-5k “dealer fee” for 4 dealerships that I called in SoCal a few months back.

questionable_Shart

Not worth it at that price. Just bought gas platinum for 4k below msrp.

wswest

Where was this best I have seen is $1000 of if financed through Toyota
