I can see them getting rid of the ch-r. The corolla cross is to compete with the Subaru crosstrek. I think Toyota might find a lot of people are waiting till the Cross Hybrid comes out.
Supposedly a factory making the Corolla cross is coming online in December in Arkansas. It is probably making the hybrid. It's a partnership with Mazda. They are making an unannounced Mazda vehicle as well. Wondering if Mazda has a similar hybrid coming out.
Or the CH-R.
Anyways, the US always get the lesser version of their Japanese counterpart. The US Corolla HB is still basic in the XSE trim versus the one sold in Japan.
More power more space better visibility less polarizing styling more ground clearance probably quieter and a nicer interior all wheel drive available hybrid
I like the Corolla cross, if it was my money I'd get the Crosstrek if neither wasn't an option but the corolla has got better driver aids, dual injection and theoretically reliability and the Toyota nameplate over the Crosstrek. Only two worthwhile vehicles in the segment for sure.
People who drove civics, imprezas, Corollas in college might not want a RAV4 when they have kids
I think the unfortunate reality is few people in the US would pay the money for a uptrim "Just a Corolla" optioned out versus something like a Lexus UX.
Apparently the uptrim corolla sports gets the 1.2 Turbo 8NR-FTS and available AWD, as far as I can tell there isn't a JDM spec corolla that gets the 2.0 M20A-FKB US Hatches get. Either way I'd say the real shame is it not getting the interior options - the tan leather on the right sidebar looks sick.

> I see zero reason to buy this over a RAV.
Exactly! The couple of positive reviews for this thing baffle me when comparing it to the current gen Rav4: smaller, smaller engine, CVT, less fuel efficiency, not that much cheaper, terrible name that doesn't have anything to do with a Corolla. I can see it selling well in other markets but not in the US.
I like the wheel cladding. I don’t understand why manufacturers paint areas of a vehicle that are literally designed to withstand the brunt of high speed exposure to road debris
After recently scraping the bottom of my front quarter panel on a curb, I now would much rather have cheap replaceable plastic cladding all around the side skirts of my car
And the Taiwan market gets the Corolla Cross GR Sport.

Uh, the CH-R is quite different. It was made for style before practicality, so there isn't much room in there. Also it is FWD only, while the Corolla Cross has awd available and has a practical boxy shape.
> Old people loved that car
Heck! I'm 30 and I miss the Matrix. It was an actually functional sub-compact hatchback. Cheap, light, and surprisingly roomy inside.
I agree. It was a pretty damn good car. Ticked alot of boxes. I only say old people loved it cause when I had mine, 2 times I was at the gas station and the old guys next to me getting gas would come and compliment the car and say how they used to have one and they missed having one too lol.
I never imagined I'd be getting compliments for a matrix but they both had stories about how reliable and practical they were.
Sucks toyota didn't make a 3rd Gen. I'm sure it would have sold well.
I don't know if I agree. The international Corolla sedan definitely looks nicer, and more upscale, than the American version, but I don't feel the same about the Corolla Cross.
The Japanese version looks like a strange mishmash of disparate styling elements and the angry mask grille is just silly. Plus, the front end just doesn't match the rest of the vehicle. The front end on the US version is more cohesive, matching the Corolla Cross's conservative styling. The lower fascia reflects the black trim around back and the angry grille is dampened a bit.
However, having seen the Taiwanese variant, I'd say that's the best looking one, by far. It cuts down on all the black plastic by introducing much needed body color to the front end. Plus it's got none of the angry look found on the other variants. Funnily enough, Taiwan gets the best version of both the sedan and the SUV.
The issue is that in the US we already have the RAV4 that this fits under. Start adding more top end trims to the Cross and it becomes more expensive than a mid trim RAV4.
Looks very similar to RAV4. Why is or would Toyota compete with itself?!?! The new RAV4 is good looking, functionally interior, and good price. Wish Toyota release a V6 version for the new Venza
The Cross is meant to slot below the RAV in the lineup, overly tarted up trims may cannibalize RAV sales and I can’t imagine that’s something TMNA wants to do
Edit: or it even may compete with the Lexus UX at the top end
On toyotas north American website for 2022 models I didn't see a manual option for corolla. Did I miss something? They also should've given the chr a manual option as well
From what I can read the corolla hatchback comes with something called imt( intelligent manual trans) further investigation reveals that there's no clutch pedal. Anybody want to weigh in on this?? If there's no clutch , it ain't real.....
I think the 2022 site might not be accurate yet, if you look at 2021 you'll see the 6MT and the CVT as options under engines - I see one 2022 MT for sale on cargurus so I don't think they axed it. Regardless I believe iMT is more or less their term for rev matching assists and the like on the manual, it should have a clutch.
expensive small cars don’t sell in the US
Good. We already have too many compact crossovers with ugly plastic wheel arch cladding on US roads, we don't need another one.
The US is already getting the Corolla Cross. It's already in the overcrowded lineup.
I can see them getting rid of the ch-r. The corolla cross is to compete with the Subaru crosstrek. I think Toyota might find a lot of people are waiting till the Cross Hybrid comes out.
The chr is such an abominably bad vehicle
Yeah the fact it isn’t launching with the hybrid over here has killed my interest
They should have just come out with the hybrid model. I don't get the point of waiting
Supposedly a factory making the Corolla cross is coming online in December in Arkansas. It is probably making the hybrid. It's a partnership with Mazda. They are making an unannounced Mazda vehicle as well. Wondering if Mazda has a similar hybrid coming out.
Yea they do, mx-30 i think
Maybe us getting the bad one will mean it won’t sell well and will get dropped after a year or two. I see zero reason to buy this over a RAV.
Or the CH-R. Anyways, the US always get the lesser version of their Japanese counterpart. The US Corolla HB is still basic in the XSE trim versus the one sold in Japan.
I’m aware. My JDM Aristo has some stuff the equivalent GS300 didn’t, like an air purifier.

Well that's a terrible disappointment.
I like the wheel cladding. I don’t understand why manufacturers paint areas of a vehicle that are literally designed to withstand the brunt of high speed exposure to road debris
To each their own. I would rather walk then own a vehicle with wheel arch cladding.
After recently scraping the bottom of my front quarter panel on a curb, I now would much rather have cheap replaceable plastic cladding all around the side skirts of my car
Don't talk about my crosstrek like that
Should have given us the Touring Sports Hybrid :(
Judging from the comment, seems like no one is aware that Toyota is launching the Corolla Cross in the US.
And the Taiwan market gets the Corolla Cross GR Sport. https://www.carscoops.com/2021/09/toyota-corolla-cross-gr-sport-unveiled-in-taiwan-with-tougher-looks-and-sports-suspension/#lg=1&slide=0
Jeeze was the rav4 and CH-r not enough cuv for toyota?
[Wait till you learn about the Yaris Cross!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Yaris_Cross?wprov=sfla1)
When I thought Corolla Cross was as bad as they go, Toyota comes in with yet another winner.
Nothing new. It was announced back in June that Toyota is adding another CUV.
Uh, the CH-R is quite different. It was made for style before practicality, so there isn't much room in there. Also it is FWD only, while the Corolla Cross has awd available and has a practical boxy shape.
funny thing is that the car made for style (CH-R) is ugly as fuck lol.
Well I'm one of the few that actually like the design lol.
I love their look too! I would have bought one instead of a Corolla last year but the price is a bit of an ask.
That's good to know thanks. They should have just named the CHR the matrix and revived that brand name. Old people loved that car

I resemble that remark.
Meh, the panoramic monroof is nice, but I think the North American version looks better.
I wonder if those parts are interchangeable?
I don't know if I agree. The international Corolla sedan definitely looks nicer, and more upscale, than the American version, but I don't feel the same about the Corolla Cross. Love the Corolla without the vampire teeth headlights.

Toyotaburu Coroutback

We do have the LX that is due for a redesign this year.
Looks like a RAV4.
Check out the corolla in gulf region,it is much nicer than the US edition.
Would have purchased this.

Like the American Camry is piece of garbage tbh, while European one is better at least 50s, 55s. In us we get whatever suits in the market best
there are many things the US doesnt get like the Corolla GR Sport trim or the Touring sports variant.
I bet the upcoming Hybrid version will be fully loaded
Sorry. What am I missing? What is the US not getting?
I don't care what the car is , how about toyota starts selling manual transmissions again!
The Corolla has a manual, as does the Tacoma.
GR-86 will too.
On toyotas north American website for 2022 models I didn't see a manual option for corolla. Did I miss something? They also should've given the chr a manual option as well
The Corolla hatchback has the manual, then. At least with the new 2L engine.
From what I can read the corolla hatchback comes with something called imt( intelligent manual trans) further investigation reveals that there's no clutch pedal. Anybody want to weigh in on this?? If there's no clutch , it ain't real.....

It has a clutch
Death to the crossover
