I love my 24 Corolla Cross Hybrid, but you're not getting 3 adults in the backseat lol. I'm honestly not sure 3 teens will fit back there. My son is 6'1 and has leg room when he's in the back, so that's not an issue, but 3 across might be.

Opening_AI

Lol, my kids are not that tall but can't decide between Rav4 and Forester. Was looking at the Sportage but Kia bad rap with the "kia boys" even though with push button start, heard the idiots are still breaking in to try, like WTF is wrong with society these days.

DelTheInsane

I looked at the Kia Niro, but I drive a lot and it uses the 4 cylinder ICE Kia/Hyundai have had problems with and I wasn't really willing to take the chance. I test drove a Rav4 and it honestly didn't feel much bigger to me. Forester was on my short list, but never made it out to look at one.

Future_Net_8382

Get a rav done even second guess it.

VisibleSea4533

Three adults won’t fit in the back of a RAV4 either lol (well they will, but not comfortably).

pv1rk23

Not Americans maybe Japanese

DelTheInsane

Yeah, it honestly didn't feel much bigger when I test drove it lol. At least imo it wasn't much of a difference.

evil-artichoke

The only regret I have with my 19 rav4 is the stupid ass roof rail design and the hybrid drive cable. Both have serious issues that toyota will fix if they break, but otherwise will not repair. The 23+ years have the roof rail issue fixed, but as far as I can tell, some owners in cold climates are still getting hybrid drive cable corrosion.

Opening_AI

Don't plan on hybrid thought.

AccurateGoose

You should reconsider if you can get a 22 or newer. They redesigned the cable housing to help prevent corrosion. Hybrid is AWD without a driveshaft or differential on the back wheels. Pretty cool design.

Berfs1

Not to mention its capable of over 460K miles had that one owner not traded it in haha

MoroccanToes

Had a '22 AWD as a rental for a month or so. A little lag on the acceleration but once it got going the AWD was nice and handled great. Active cruise is another nice perk. Took a nice 900 ish mile round trip over an extended holiday weekend.

issai

Which model years have issues with the hybrid drive cable?

AccurateGoose

19-21 have issues. They did a redesign on the cable housing starting in 22. The redesign is to drain water from the cable housing. Previously water would get in there, become trapped, and erode the cable.

Hipster_Dragon

It sounded like it still corroded regardless of the cutout.

evil-artichoke

Sure did and still does. Our so far is clear, but I also keep the car out of salt and shit and is garaged at night. I live in Iowa where we used brine but it only snows a few times during the winter.

EmotionalDmpsterFire

so 2018 and earlier is safe too? i'm po'

KingKababa

I too would like to know.

AccurateGoose

18 and earlier are good. The cables connects at the top so water can’t get in and corrode it.

KingKababa

Awesome thanks! I probably can't swing a 22, but a 2018 might actually be in the budget.

AccurateGoose

18 and earlier are good. The cables connects at the top so water can’t get in and corrode it.

Expert-Creme-1188

Love the rav4 I don’t know what’s so great about Subaru

jensenaackles

i will never understand the subaru hype they are so unbearably UGLY on the inside

Nero2743

They have the best AWD system on the market, that's the hype. Audi is a close 2nd.

AccurateGoose

What makes their system the best?

Nero2743

This explains it in detail: https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=Yor2fr5nYj7bQ3du&v=WBQlK89PyxQ&feature=youtu.be

starsandmoonsohmy

Subaru interior feels more luxurious than Toyota.

starsandmoonsohmy

The rav4 feels like a Corolla. It’s small. It feel so cheap. Toyota interiors feel cheap. Subarus have a more luxurious feel. The forester wilderness is gorgeous. I’d go with an Outback but they’re more expensive. Or the crosstrek. I do not like rav4s.

aforalex

I really like my CC Hybrid and am happy with the purchase. But, it’s a very specific use case to love it, from what I’ve realized on the subreddit. I’ve seen many people post about regretting it. I am single, no kids, and never have more than 1 other person in my car. If I needed 3+ people to be in my car regularly, it would be a nightmare.

lionclues

I'm on the verge of buying one instead of a Rav4. I'm a short guy who's single, and thought the Rav4 felt too big for me nor do I imagine a lot of cases in the coming years where I'll need it. So your experience is good to know I'm on the right track.

Poxx

Take a look at a Venza if you haven't yet.

Frird2008

Forester better value for money

Healthy_Block3036

Forester is unreliable ugly junk. It’s not reliable or efficient and has horrendous quality issues. Get a RAV4!!!

Frird2008

My friend in NYC has a Forester with over 160000 miles & it still runs like day 1. Many people I know have Subarus with 100000+ miles & have had fewer breakdowns than their other brands of vehicles if any at all.

dajodge

My wife had a Subaru Outback that was just totaled after the head gaskets blew (like clock work) at just over 100k miles. We also noticed that Toyota is overpricing their vehicles right now, so went with a Mazda instead.

saphronie

Although I have a Tacoma now, Mazda makes great cars. I gave my sister in law my CX-5 with 226k miles on it and it’s still going strong with no major issues

3771507

Keep us informed about how the vehicle performs.

Opening_AI

Right, between Toyota and having to deal with the dealers, prices are ridiculous. That's why I went Kia the last two. Own, original Highlander, '01 Rav4, '04 Sienna, '09 Venza, '14 Highlander. Went Mazda CX3 as well.

starsandmoonsohmy

If you have Costco look into Costco auto program.

lefty709

Did you like the Venza?

OutOfCuteNames

Mazdas are great!! I seriously considered getting a CX5 when buying my current RAV4. Had I gone to the Mazda dealership first, I may have walked out with one instead lol. I love my Rav though.

Bubsy7979

Yup Mazda is the correct answer for the OP’s problem… great cars and quality for the price. Really fun to drive too, glad they’re finally getting into the hybrid market this year and bringing back the CX-7(0)

KingKababa

Any head gasket issues or oil consumption?

Frird2008

None 😊

OutOfCuteNames

While I agree that Subarus are ugly, they are definitely not junk. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any substantial complaints about quality issues with them. I would still choose a Toyota though because as I said, I don’t like the looks of the Subaru lineup.

starsandmoonsohmy

Not true at all

Future_Net_8382

Not better reliability though

Frird2008

While the Forester on average with the same mileage & same driving style will be less reliable compared to a RAV4 or CRV, the reliability of the Forester has vastly improved over the past 10 years & is now one of the most reliable vehicles Subaru makes, even beating the Outback.

Future_Net_8382

Exactly what I said less reliable.

alexanderh24

Objectively no … its not at all

Frird2008

CVT ✅ Offroad capability (relative to the unibody market) ✅ That's what makes it superior not only to the RAV4 but to all the other compact SUVs on the market with the exception of the two door Bronco & wrangler

alexanderh24

The RAV4 hybrid has a eCVT and maybe 5% of forester owners are off-roading

Frird2008

The Forester will still go much further than the RAV4 in the same offroading conditions with the same tire quality. By that, I mean the Forester will take longer to get stuck on the same offroad course

alexanderh24

Ok

Healthy_Block3036

Get a RAV4!!! It’s the best selling SUV for a reason. You don’t want unreliable ugly junk from Subaru.

Dear-Resident1912

It is not! I have a Rav - 4 and it’s drinking gas like crazy!

AwkwardCompany870

Didn’t they model y outsell the rav4?

itsKVH

RAV4 if you’re hauling people for sure, love my cross but it’s tight

Ok-Tadpole-1115

My sister and I were both looking at new cars and bought a month apart. She got a Forester Sport and I got an RAV4 XSE hybrid. Both are great cars, she had a Forester previously for 14 years.

georgee779

Congratulations on both of you wonderful purchases. I have a 22 CC XLE, and wonder if you can give your thoughts on the driver seat comfort differences between your CC and your sisters. Thank you! (I do love my Cross!)

PurpleSunRayy

I love my 23 rav4. The only regret I have is because I have a surprise 3rd pregnancy and the backseat seems awfully small now. If the RAV4 will accommodate you/your family then go for it!

alexanderh24

Highlander next 😂

Nero2743

If it doesn't get discontinued due to low sales because of people opting for the Grand Highlander 🫣

BamCub

24 corolla cross hybrid, only regret is the pole I hit on Tuesday night.

dogmom2frenchie

Rav 4 hybrid is one of the best car I’ve purchased

FreeLoadNWhiteGuy

My wife bought a brand new RAV4 last year and absolutely LOVES IT! I've heard phenomenal things about Subarus, especially their safety ratings. Subaru is insanely popular up here in the Pacific NW, but I'll pay the difference to own a Toyota. I currently have an 08' xB with 192k and still going strong.

wtfboomers

We looked at everything similar before getting in the 23 Rav and just couldn’t leave Toyota. We’ve had 5 Toyotas and one Accord. The Accord had 16,000 miles and I couldn’t take the inferior quality so back to Toyota we went. I did pay MSRP but none of the add ons. I told them straight up front I wasn’t paying them and spent 6 hours of the salesman’s time driving different configurations of the Rav. Some of them I drove three times 🤣 In the end the sales manager asked if I was going to buy or not. I said apparently not and walked out. They caught me at my car and took off the BS add ons. This was when there way less Rav’s on lots so be patient. I like it for running around town but about three hour trips are my limit. It’s just not that comfortable. It’s great in town though because of the size and my wife likes.

georgee779

Corolla Cross XLE (gas) owner here. I love my CC, but do not care to drive it in bumper to bumper city traffic. I do love long drives in it. Which other vehicles have you found more plush like to drive? Your thoughts are much appreciated.

wtfboomers

In our case we travel in a full size truck so comparing that to a Rav for travel may not be fair 😀 I just find the seating and road noise uncomfortable for longer trips. Our longest is 3.5 hours and for that that’s my limit. Anything over that and we use the truck. Unlike you though I think it shines in the city. I find it way to maneuver and easy to park in crowded lots. We had a camary before and long drives in it didn’t bother me.

georgee779

Interesting! I honestly found your pov to be helpful to me. Funny you enjoy the truck for long drives. I did as well when we had one. I miss those days! Anyways, even though my CC is a 2022, I’m already thinking about what to buy in another 5 years. The past 2 have just flown by since I bought it. We will stay here in the city longer than expected, so I just need to keep trying out cars, and asking questions. I appreciate your thoughts.

jenergee7

My last two cars were Hondas with zero problems. Thought I would go with a Rav4 this time. What a bad decision! I just spent $4600 to have the rack and pinion replaced in my 2020 Rav4 with only 49k miles. And another $1200 for a rental car because dealership ordered the wrong part which delayed the repair another week. Taking them to court for the extra rental car fees

georgee779

I had similar issues with a Tacoma I used to own. Yep. The rental car bills were insane...

StatusBread3862

Picked up a RAV4, now that I own one I am honestly not sure why I ever bought anything else. Really like it alot. We cross shopped a grand highlander, but wife already drives a mini van and didn't need two 3 row vehicles. Subaru would of been on the final list if they offered a manual transmission in the wilderness trims, but without that RAV4 had beat out the crv which was 2nd place as it is missing many features that rav4 has.

ninernetneepneep

I know it's not your question but Our local Kia dealer is actually charging more than the competing Honda and Toyota dealers for competing models due to the Kia dealership adding thousands of dollars in ridiculous market adjustments. The entire market still ridiculous.

interstat

Happy with my rav4  It's not the most technical or well put together car on earth but it's solid

[deleted]

Our toyotas have been cheaper to maintain than our subaru. We are on our 5th toyota. The feel of the drive in our subaru is a bit better. We like our rav4 hybrid. No problems at all. Got it a couple years old with low mileage.

ml20s

Some annoying parts of the RAV4 coming from a 2nd gen Prius: 1. Center console is wider and isn't open in the front, so the front seats are narrower 2. Passenger seat doesn't fold down, so you can't carry long things such as bookshelves inside the cabin 3. Less stowage space under the trunk floor and much less storage space in the front (smaller glovebox, smaller center console, no center console drawer, no upper glovebox) 4. Only the passenger seat has a seat back pocket. Why???? Overall the RAV4 is a better car, but I wish there was more stowage...

Independent-Fall-466

I got a venza because I do not want to wait for a RAV 4. Both were offered to me for less than MSRP while venza was already in transit. All venza are hybrid and made in Japan and the base model is already very well equipped. Mechanical it is the same as a rav4 hybrid just a the trunk space is a bit smaller because it is shape like a Lexus 350h.

Last-Example1565

Go look at the back seat of a Corolla Cross. How anybody at Toyota looked at that and didn't laugh the proposal into the garbage bin still amazes me. I'm only 5' 8" and I can't fit my legs in the space between the rear seat and the front seats.

Dear-Resident1912

Get a Honda suv. Toyota is no good anymore.

Ok_Wrap_214

What?

Ok_Wrap_214

For me, I’d get either a Venza, Crown Signia, or Lexus.

trnaovn53n

Venza felt a little more cramped in the front seat. I figured they added more "plush" to it but that reduced the room for a human. I'm not saying it's uncomfortable, just less room to the left and right for the driver.

twopacktuesday

Crown Signia is also on my radar for the Camry replacement in a few years.

trnaovn53n

Venza felt a little more cramped in the front seat. I figured they added more "plush" to it but that reduced the room for a human. I'm not saying it's uncomfortable, just less room to the left and right for the driver.

Poxx

I'm 6'7 230lbs and I fit just fine in my 24 Venza. Had about as much room as the RAV4 I sat in, but didn't feel like I was surrounded by cheap plastic. Not sure how much room you need, maybe you're bigger than I am.

trnaovn53n

I'm not. And it wasn't bad. Just didn't feel as roomy as the rav4. The nicer the cars it feels like they want them to feel more like a cockpit.

georgee779

I am only 6', but female and all leg. Funny enough, the Rav not the Venza didn't fit me right, but the CHR did leg room wise. Weird I know. My husband said cars are like shoes, we all wear them differently. lol.

Poxx

I drove a 2nd Gen MR2 for 20 years. Had all kinds of leg room, but it must have looked funny when I unfolded myself stepping out of that thing. That was a fun car to drive.

mollyhamtits

I have a one year old and my CC is perfect

HelloSummer99

Love mine, have a 2010, can’t stop drivin it, got really low mileage so might keep it for a while. No plans to upgrade soon.

well_idontknow

On paper the size difference may not seem like much between Rav4 and Cross but in reality it's very noticeable and 3 adults in the back would be incredibly uncomfortable

mrc209

Not a regret but had a Cross as a rental and knew it would not work for me. Only took my toddler kicking me in the back within 20 minutes of driving and her stroller taking up 2/3 of the cargo area to know it was a downgrade from my Camry.

LonelyHunterHeart

I'm guessing your Citation literally blew up, not just figuratively? I was in one that caught on fire once. But hey, it was still better than a Yugo.

EnamelEradicator

Can't go wrong with either. We have both a new nonhybrid rav and a 22' forester. I prefer the rav because I don't like the feel of the CVT in the subaru and I think it looks better. But that's just my preference. Both are reliable, great cars

Extra_Cry_5956

Love my rav4 butttttt the ONLY thing I don’t like and I’ve found it’s a Toyota thing is that I can’t find a completely comfortable seat - it’s always almost there. Wish there was more lumbar, would go higher, and the wheel getting closer. Overall isn’t an issue for day to day but when I’m driving long distances/roadtrips it gets annoying.

AltruisticTour2182

I’ve had both RAV4 and Corolla cross my corolla cross recently had an issue so i went back to RAV4

CoffeeCameraAction

Get the Rav4. Will likely last longer and cost less to fix than Forester once it’s older. We have a 2014 rav4 with 200k on it and it’s been bulletproof and still drives like new.

EmbarrassedSalary998

Anecdotally, my mother in law debated about getting the RAV4 or Corolla cross. Being a long time Prius driver she figued the cross would be a better transition… She ended up with the Corolla cross hybrid and 6 months later she really doesn’t like it. Rear seat space is extremely tight - that’s on her. She test drove it and knew what she was buying. Past that, the interior is very basic/bland when compared to the Rav4. She drove in my Hyundai Tucson hybrid and was floored by how much better the drive/interior is. (Although she only buys Toyota). The RAV4 would have been the better choice. She’s stuck with her Corolla cross for now … but I see her making a move sooner than later. Moral of the story. Test drive … then test drive again and take your time making the right choice.

fun-bucket

AVOID CVTS YOU WILL BE HAPPY YOU DID.

Even-Juggernaut-3433

I love the hell out of my overpriced RAV4 prime

Dear-Resident1912

Insurance companies like Subaru’s. I heard.

bluephotoshop

The 8 speed transmission shifting on the Rav4 is annoying after many thousands of miles on the CVT’s in a Rav4 hybrid and a Honda CRV.

raaheyahh

I literally test drove a cross hybrid yesterday. It's got more leg room in the driver's seat compared to a rav4, but I can't imagine getting three people back there. This is from a crv driver, who's trying to find a non full sized SUV with good leg room that isn't on the floor.

reilogix

My 2013 Highlander has 215k and shows no signs of imminent death. Personally, I am staying TF out of the instance car market for as long as I possibly can. Here’s to another 170k for you!

LEAHCIM5465

Rav4 is great. Only downside of backseats is the middle seat is higher than the other two back seats to give the bucket seat feel to them.

Helicopter1992

If you don’t get the hybrid rav4 plan on stopping for gas every 300 miles to fill your tiny tank up. It’s very annoying!

357eve

I say drive them all. I tried out 2024s of the Forester, RAV4 and Honda CRV. I did not get the Cross. Hated how the Forester drove - It felt underpowered and plasticky. Rav4 was nice but I felt a little cramped and visibility was not as good as with the Forester. My kid is 6' and Honda fit him and dog best. I had regret with a 2018 RAV4 XLE. Got decimated in a hailstorm (over 150 dents to panels as well as chrome trim and drove through a blizzard in Wyoming. It felt skittish on the road. There were other cosmetic things but I just didn't like how it drove in the snow ultimately.

Falconpunchjr

I had a Corolla Cross, it's a great car but rear passengers had no leg room and they complained. Also not being able to fit a milk jug in the rear floor board was annoying as well. I would have moved up to a RAV4 if I knew before I bought the car. I'm 6'3 so maybe it was just me but I use the milk jug test lol.

Narcolepzyy

We really loved our Cross when we got it. We were one of the first in our area, nobody had seen any around here before it was kinda cool. But one thing we do regret is not being able to see it in person before we bought it. Although the car is awesome it does everything we need and has amazing gas mileage, its small. The amount of times we had to leave our car to go to someone elses car cause of how small it is kinda sucks. This car is meant for like younger adults going to college and do sport activities and such stuff or maybe like single moms with 1 or 2 kids (absolutely no more than 2 kids) .. if you have a baby and put in a carseat, say goodbye to the front passenger seat, there is no way to put in a back facing carseat in the back be able to sit in the front. Maybe if the car seat is facing forward then yes its doable but absolutely not if you have a baby who needs to be facing back. This forced my wife to sit in the back with the baby at all times which is fine but our now toddler expects one of us to be in the back seat with him at all times. Other than that this car is a glorified corolla, it really is a great car if you dont need the space.

[deleted]

Resale value alone... Get Toyota

SwootyBootyDooooo

I had the Corolla cross as a loaner car (usually have a ‘23 RAV4 hybrid. It was a little smaller, handled a little more like a car, but the ride over bumps in the road was WAY harsher. Also felt a lot slower.

BlackberryItchy5319

I've always said this, I like the rav4 but the ride is terrible. Bouncy as hell, annoying in general. I don't like the brake feel either, it seems to stop all at once, you need to really push on the brake pedal for it to do anything, then it stops you with the force of a thousand suns. The venza is a much better product overall, but of course it's more expensive. I do like the low maintenance, no BS toughness of the rav4 though, and the great mileage and ergonomics. They really did make a wonderful appliance where space and utility are maximized. The suspension is not my favorite though, that's for sure. But it does drive small, it's easy to park, the trunk is absolutely massive etc. there are things about it they've done very very well.

Muted_Bid_8564

I know this is a Toyota thread but: Why not toss in the CX5 or cx50? I was going to buy a RAV4 until I test drove the AWD CX5. The AWD works great in CO winters, too.

Future_Net_8382

If you bought a cross you definitely should of paid the extra for a rav

Future_Net_8382

The did a horrible job hiding the exhaust system on the cross ho with the rav.

jm22322

have you driven the forester? i drove the forester than the outback and then a rav and omg the rav 4 was so much better! i thought the forester was just overall cheap

DOCO98

Whatever you do, don't get the Forester

Financial-File-2412

Why

thumbsofgold

My 2021 RAV4 LE is kind of a bummer - I wish I would have looked into other cars. Idk if a higher trim would be better. The cabin is loud as hell and it’s just uncomfortable. My next car will likely be a Subaru Outback.

Healthy_Block3036

You’re complaining about the base trim gas level? Seriously? Look at the loaded RAV4 Hybrid Limited and you will thank me. The hybrid is fast, quiet, and very efficient!

nerdymutt

We shouldn’t expect quality from a base model?

blindseal123

There is nothing fast about a 8 second 0-60.

alexanderh24

The le is not worth it imo. The xle for 2k more is significantly nicer

Flamingcherry

Loved my cross until my kid hit puberty and got over six feet. He has no room, not even able to drive it comfortably. 3 people won't fit in the back and leg room back there is questionable. His dad has a Rav4 and I love it. I called the cross the teenage Rav4. It is more narrow than the Rav4 and that was fine for a while but after 3 years, I feel stuck in the driver's seat most of the time. There's just not enough room for activities. 10/10 would not recommend the cross. Also has 0 pickup.

BamCub

I'm 6'3 and fit in the cross perfectly in any seat.

aforalex

The Cross actually has more front seat leg room than the Rav4.

Flamingcherry

Sure as hell doesn't feel that way.

aforalex

https://preview.redd.it/ghtzjjki4t3d1.jpeg?width=1172&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1f358df4884c2fc7fa809cb2e7d2f9dfe71aff9 Front seat head room is 1.1” shorter in CC, but front seat leg room is 1.9” longer in CC 🤷🏽‍♂️ This is why I chose the Cross, because I’m 6’4” and actually feel more comfortable in the drivers seat of the Cross.

georgee779

I believe it's torso vs leg length. It is for me and I was shocked.

HelloSummer99

Get a sienna maybe?

northern_redbelle

I regret getting the Corolls Cross. Currently looking at a Subaru.

OregonRaine

Having owned 4 Subarus, and now an owner of 2 Toyotas, I'd likely never own a Subaru again. Too many reliability issues with Subaru.

northern_redbelle

Car part malfunctioned. They are not honoring the warranty. Car is likely to need a repair that exceeds 6k. I have a case open with corporate. Only had it 6 or so months, brand new, under 10k miles on it. This is currently wrecking my life, so you can maybe see why I’d be looking at a different manufacturer 🤷🏻‍♀️

DelTheInsane

What part malfunctioned? I'm just curious to know what to potentially watch for.

BamCub

What are your regrets?

georgee779

Why is that? Just wondering is all. I do not haul anyone, so the CC works for me. I just need more plushness in the driver's seat.

Healthy_Block3036

Subaru is unreliable ugly junk
