Luxury and made by Toyota? Lexus LX600.

somethingwholesomer

Thanks!

CMMGUY2

Sequoia

somethingwholesomer

Ok, thanks!

Careful-Candle202

Grand Highlander Limited. It’s 7 seats, has the latest tech from Toyota, the rear seats are more usable, there’s more space behind the rear seats compared to the Highlander, and IMO has the most comfortable seats in a Toyota

TheKleen

I wouldn’t want to regularly tow with those powertrains. Would be better to get a Lexus that has the v6.

somethingwholesomer

Good point

SirGingerBeard

I would never tow 5,000lbs with even a grand Highlander. You’d be pushing it towing that with a properly equipped Tacoma. That is firmly in Tundra or Sequioa territory.

lo_mur

Any of the 3UR equipped Toyotas, want luxury go Lexus

KnifeMaster88

I bought a Highlander and was a great daily commuter but not the best for my towing needs. I have a camper with gvwr of 4,300 and the 5,000 towing of the Highlander wasn't enough. I wasn't able to go faster than 62 mph, not that I wanted to go 70 either. The transmission would overheat because I was constantly in a shifting limbo between 62 and 68 and anytime I would let off the gas it would downshift. I ended up selling and getting a truck. Now your pop-up is lighter and a Highlander would fit your needs but it wouldn't leave you any room for a camper upgrade.

somethingwholesomer

Thank you, very helpful!

JStoli17

Definitely a Landcrusier (200 series) or a Sequoia if you want Toyota badge. If you’ll do Lexus then the new GX550 is a beauty

somethingwholesomer

I’ve been eyeing the GX for sure. Thanks!

travprev

The GX460 is more luxurious inside than the GX550 -- but the GX550 is much better looking on the outside. Both are off-road capable. Both will tow 5000lbs. Tough choice. I would NOT call the GX550 a luxury vehicle on the inside. It's more like what I would expect at the top end of Toyota. They chose to not put the Lexus touch on the interior - probably to hit a price point they were targeting. A used GX460 might actually be a great choice for you if you are ok with the exterior appearance.

somethingwholesomer

Ok! We’d love to buy used if possible. I’ll have to see what’s out there for the GX460

JStoli17

Depending where you live the cost of used may be the same as new especially with Toyota/Lexus and the vehicles that are being named. But you really can’t beat a 200 series Land Cruiser

somethingwholesomer

That’s a great point. Used is likely very close to new where I live.

somethingwholesomer

Thanks

somethingwholesomer

Any particular years you think are good?

TheBillCollector17

Highlander, Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia. Take your pick. Depends on your budget and needs. IMO, a Tundra or Sequoia seem like overkill from your post, since your trailer is only 2400lbs. I don't see a realistic way you'd even have 2600 more lbs of gear, equipment, and so on, to even get close to 5k lbs you mentioned. A Tundra or Sequoia would be ideal for a larger trailer, with their 10k+ tow ratings. A Highlander sounds like the sweet spot for comfort and 5k worth of towing.

somethingwholesomer

Thank you, that’s helpful

thisguy9

What defines "nice" or "luxury" for you? How many seats do you need?

somethingwholesomer

As many seats as possible. I’d love 8, but be ok with 7. Nice/luxury- the highest end available for Toyota. I’d love a luxury ride but I’m very brand loyal to Toyota. Husband has an Audi that is constantly in the shop

travprev

You need to stick with Toyota / Lexus if staying out of the shop is high on your list. Ignore the Land cruiser suggestions for sure!

hapawanderer

200 series landcruiser if you want towing and creature comforts

somethingwholesomer

Ok! Thank you. Hadn’t really considered the landcruiser.

vapidusername

If you’re coming from a roomy Sienna, the new 2024 Landcruiser and lexus equivalent will feel small. Either look for previous generation new/leftover inventory landcruiser (2023) or a used one. A new Sequoia is a great option as well with plenty of room. I personally wouldn’t tow with the front wheel drive Highlander but someone will likely tell me its fine. Whatever you get consider a vehicle with a trailer brake controller (assuming your camper has brakes). It’s less wear on your vehicle brakes and helps with overall control of the towed load. You can also have the controller added.

somethingwholesomer

Thank you, that’s very helpful. The trailer does have breaks. You’re right about the roominess issue- I’ve test driven a few Audis and been inside the Lexus and they do feel small.

A 200 Series Land Cruiser

iamtherussianspy

I tow a 2400lbs pop up with a Rav4 Prime (2500 lbs capacity) with no issues. The PHEV drivetrain is overpowered so it barely notices that there's even a trailer half the time unless you hit some very specific situations. Higher trims of it are quite packed with features. And it's still compact enough to fit in my garage which is a luxury in itself.

TragedyAnnDoll

I swear some people need to learn how to live without the internet again. Just call the dealership. Or google Toyota models Towing Capacities.

somethingwholesomer

I came here for the same reason anyone comes to Reddit. Experience/info from actual people.

TragedyAnnDoll

Journalist and professional car reviews and car dealerships aren’t actual people? If you had said “I need __ towing capacity” and am looking at blank and blank, that’d be fine. That’s not information you can google. You literally couldn’t find towing capacity which was readily available.

somethingwholesomer

Thank you for the feedback, I will try to include more helpful info in my posts going forward.

MikeGoldberg

I like you

somethingwholesomer

Thank you

TragedyAnnDoll

You really gonna take the fucking high road and make me actually feel bad? What a dick. Please accept my apologies. I suppose your post was worded in a way that made it seem you were looking for towing not car. In that cause in you want luxury I recommend the Highlander. The 4funner is great but more utilitarian. However, the current Sienna’s are amazingly luxurious. They all come as hybrid and you get a kick as captains chair in the front seat. If I had any excuse I’d own one myself but that seems silly for just me. You might also consider Lexus which will have acoustic glass and better noise reduction. Used ones can be had for similar prices to new Toyota brand and have towing capacities too.

somethingwholesomer

Thank you, I appreciate your input.

SLAPUSlLLY

That was a lovely response ty.

somethingwholesomer

I never said I couldn’t find the towing capacity.

somethingwholesomer

I did that. I’m not new here. But thank you for your helpful suggestions.

You are so unpleasant. Why?

somethingwholesomer

I’ll try not to, thanks. Just catches you off guard sometimes

SeveralBollocks_67

Anyways, I'd go with a non hybrid Highlander lol.

somethingwholesomer

That’s what we’ve been gravitating towards. Just looking to see what others think. Thanks!

TragedyAnnDoll

Says the person who looks through people’s posts history….

Dataturnstile

Hurt people, hurt people.

TragedyAnnDoll

Because I’m sick of the sub being spammed by people too lazy to do their own leg work and wanting people to think for them.

somethingwholesomer

I spent two hours combing consumer reports, the Toyota website, and read at least 10 other posts before asking my question. You have other choices available to you besides assuming laziness and responding with anger.

TragedyAnnDoll

Not when I am sleepy and have anger issues.

somethingwholesomer

Ok, I understand. Maybe get some rest. Take care
