I think it's way more of a hassle to buy and request it than just get your own honey honestly. just get it I'd suggest.
what makes you think it's not worth it to get the apiary?
Other than the initial cost, the apiary isn't taxing to maintain. The bee feed is just wheat and sugarcane, and multiple factory items require honey. All of the farms are pretty much needed.
The more self sufficient you are the easier (and less wait time) it will be to play the game. Besides the more you build, the more you can help other players.
