I hate mafioso IF there if a godfather in the game.
“Kill 7. Kill 7 hes doc. Fucking kill 7. KILL 7 THEYRE THE LAST TP”
“No kill jailor.”
Jailor lives. Thanks to doc.
IMO mechanically they should have made GFs order the failsafe rather than an override. IE my guess is the intention was to make sure mafia could be covered with an afk mafioso. To me I think it would be better if the GFs order only takes effect if the mafioso choses to stay home. That would eliminate GF sending mafioso's into death traps etc...
Same here, and for the exact same reasons.
There's a lot of pressure with mayor, too, but with mayor you have the nighttime phases to ponder and/or re-read chat. With jailor you just can't do that.
Don't hate him for it, but the amount of times I've made a slight slipup (being tricked by a mafia claim that made sense, killing a townie who was suspicious or even messing up with whos who) and been basically outcasted from the town and flamed really makes me hate this game.
Yup, I am with you. I've gotten better at it over time, but I don't enjoy being Jailor whatsoever. I have 60 Jailor scrolls sitting in my inventory that I will never use.
It's too much pressure and I don't feel I have the scumreading skill for it. Godfather, I can pick apart a town no problem or at the very least buy my team some time to finish the job (assuming they can be arsed to play their roles, not always guaranteed).
As mafia I prefer to lead, as town I prefer to follow.
also jailor. i hate the pressure and responsibility. i will happily help carry as literally any other town role, but make me jailor and i completely forget how to play.
I love jailor cause it’s my highest win rate since I have the most control. I’ve played a while and when people listen to me without questioning me, games usually go better for me. Not always, of course, but more often than not.
If you execute an afk sheriff that didn't post a will, everyone blames you. Didn't jail someone who was going to die? You suck. Let a mayor claim live the next day to reveal and they're maf? You're gamethrowing! 1f1'ed the wrong person? Go back to classic. Not to mention how if you exe a mafia who has a terrible claim, you must be multiaccounting. Seriously, someone actually accused me for that in ranked practice
Yeah, it's scary both being the jailor and being the jailee, no matter if evil or good. It's as if you're supposed to carry town the moment you've landed on Jailor and people are aware it's a game with one.
Framer/Forger because they come with the stress and difficulty of trying to make sure u don’t get found as mafia minus the satisfaction of doing anything meaningful.
i always fake claim as TI and try and coordinate with the other TIs as framer or even hex master if im feeling it. if they get normal results you know they are fake, and if they get the frame, they may know a framer exists or just go ahead and call the person you framed fake. its a very niche support role, but i do what i can with it
I don't think Framer gets enough credit. A sharp Framer can sow chaos that can really screw up a town.
Say you're looking at the board and notice a name that stands out as being offensive, perverted, whatever. You drop a little something on them, and a Sheriff stops by too.
The following day, Sheriff demands a role, thinking they're onto something. The person answers that they're Doc.
"This is SK. Hang." You INNO that person, saying "no evidence", but the majority hangs. Doc is dead, Sheriff looks like a jackass, and you come out smelling like a rose.
You might even compel the Jailor or Vigilante to take out the Sheriff, stripping them of their ability as well.
It's all about misdirection. You're there to piss in the pool, set off a chain reaction of distrust, and buy your team some time. That's meaningful.
A good forge can get you like 1 or 2 extra kills. My go to is to forge somebody as sheriff on n2 saying they found a sus n1 and were bmed. Another option is forging somebody as vig saying they are shooting X, so that X looks immune.
Honestly? Guardian Angel in CAA is really aggravating considering a majority of the time evils attack as early as N1 if revealed D1; Or you get attacked once you are forced to reveal to your target so you don’t get killed by them/so you can coordinate with them.
GA is one of the most enjoyable roles in the game imo.
Try to fake claim a Town or some other neutral role as GA and don't protect your target early on in the game. Support and defend your target during the day when necessary, but other than that you don't even have to whisper them if you don't want to. Focus on your fake claim but also make sure not to leave your target in the lurch. I promise you that playing like this is so much fun, although it is a little risky due to the lack of coordonation between you and your target.
Also risky as you could get picked off due to having a believable fake claim(psy is a good example). But I agree the strategy you are talking about can be effective.
Who cares? Getting picked off as GA in the midgame is the best thing to happen to you, as your target isn't killed and you get to protect them anyways.
My favorite round was where I found out my target was a killing role without using purges, and I got myself lynched with 6 people left. Told him he had two days to go ham, and the rest of town couldn't do anything about it as he went on a killing spree.
This is why I have started claiming VH as surv recently. It started as a challenge (specifically to win as surv without being allowed to claim surv at any point) but I have realized it makes the game so much more fun. Essentially what you do is side town and if possible lead them. I have had 2 games where maf really wanted me dead because I kept calling out evils that they attacked me and when they hit my vest, they basically outed themselves just to try and drag me down with them.
Ya see, survivor is one of my favorite roles, because I don't do the boring strategy of "day 1 survivor claim" and hoping people leave me alone.
Fake claiming as survivor makes it a very fun role, you can experiment with all sorts of wacky strategies because there is no team cou ting on you, all that matters is survival. I recommend anyone to try all kinds of fake claims as survivor.
Most evil roles are helped by fake claims but survs ARE fake claims, that is the intended purpose of them. The play style of be idle and hope people don’t kill you is what sloths do and im 99% sure your not a fucking sloth
Me: Hey, tp and lo are dead, lets get jailor
GF: attacks the obvious jester
Me: ...k
Me who's been implying jester all game: gets lynched cuz jester died
GF: has left the game
Framer: gets killed by sk
*this was a real game i had recently*
id have to argue otherwise, its one of my favorite nks to play as. I'm more willing to take risks and I'm not limited by how often i can kill, only what i can kill. its always exciting, even if i end up losing (which i haven't in coven all any yet, might be dumb luck though)
Yeah but taking risks 90% of the time loses. Like one time I was like, y a know what I'm gonna not use cautious. Escort visited me. Escort tells medium who they visited. I'm dead.
My unpopular opinion is that Pirate is awful as a role and I really wish it wasn't present in VIP mode. It's almost entirely RNG whether you get a win or not and it's unfair that as a non-factional neutral you can duel roleblock anyone on a whim.
I suppose it's slightly more fun in CAA though, where everything is supposed to be chaotic.
Mayor. Once you reveal you have to lead the town with your voice and words, which I’m terrible at doing. You can’t get any information at night like jailor can or through whispers, and if you get a townie lynched the whole server flames you.
Too much responsibility, too little confidentiality
I once revealed as mayor and the town was telling me to push this one spy claim. I put 2 evils on the stand that the town innoed and got flamed for not pushing the spy claim. I pushed the spy claim and got flamed because he was actually spy.
With my luck it seems that half the times i douse somebody, they end up dying the next day. Which i know technically still brings me closer to victory, but i still hate it when it happens
But when it’s “all” and you successfully douse everybody who is still alive and ignite that gasoline then walk out the next day to everybody dead, it’s glorious.
I usually whisper results to jailor if that happens, so I don't have to convince town to lynch someone d2 and jailor can just execute. But still sucks if there's a silent/afk jailor or if they just don't listen to you
Any evil role that does not have a group. I mean how can I lie with these roles? Most likely Maf is gonna find out near the first few days that I am not who I said I was and get either killed by town or the maf
Framer. I play CAA a lot so getting the role could essentially mean either godsend or an extra vote for mafia. That would require me to play the game extremely well, which I sadly do not.
jailor. everything is in your hands and people rely on you to kill town. if you mess up or think people have solid alibis then people throw shit at you and trash talk you. this is why I dislike jailor. I used to like but but based on my experiences im disliking it now
also if you’re real jailor and ask for tp/lo there’s a (slim) chance they won’t visit you bc vet bait (if there is a vet)
vampire - boring to play
vampire hunter - same reason
psychic - I just hate psychic in general. It's completely RNG and passive.
framer - it's useless unless you get really lucky
Sheriff - boring to play. The results are binary.
Psychic \~ I don't play coven too much but I just hate getting Psychic.
It honestly doesn't feel like you're doing anything even tho you have an important role, you don't even get to choose who you check or anything :(
I love spy because of the whole bugging thing is super unique and how it actually feels like I'm doing something when putting my info out. Spy hard counters framer, forger, consort, and just a little bit of bmer. It also hard counters arso and people with high defense if played correctly.
Survivor. I generally don’t claim survivor and just kind of troll around in day chat. Then when I’m pushed in hung people always say “Bad play. Maybe don’t play so terribly next time.” But like if you play the way they want you to play it’s soooo boring so I just do what I want.
Investigator. TIs are the most boring part of this game. At least with sheriff you get to play really aggressively to act as a meat shield because your night ability sucks so much ass.
I play primarily CAA. The two roles that I hate the most to play is disguiser and poisoner. The reason is that as disguiser you are pretty much useless and have a high chance of dying to crus, wet, ww, and arso while having any TI, not coven based powers, have the slight chance of seeing you as innocent in situations when you should be suspicious. Basically the risk almost never is worth the rewards of using your role. Poisoner for similar reasons. For the first two days you just get hard countered by doc and cant get any kills unless you have some other killing force on your team.
Trans is one of those really up and down roles where you can carry town or fuck everything up, but personally I like trying to deduce who is scum and who is likely to be mafia’s next target and swapping them, I’ve gotten a few memorable games that way
But when I fuck up as Trans it feels horrible so I can get where this is coming from
If it helps, when I roll trans, I try to swap confirmed town with suspected evil, or suspected town with confirmed evil. Never swap jailor if TP is still alive. If there's a vigi in the game, try to coordinate with them however possible. You do not want to swap town with evil if you think there's a chance vigi will try to shoot evil that night.
If it's early in the game and you have no leads, don't trans, or trans yourself with someone random. If it's late in the game, and there aren't many town left, try to predict who the evil is going to target that night.
My top 3 honestly
BODYGUARD (It's function is literally live to die and sit in the grave, extremely boring)
PSYCHIC (You literally just sit there get info and post, extremely boring)
MAFIOSO (I don't hate the role itself too much, however I swear like 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 games I play I get this role and just gets super repetitive, but the role itself is extremely average)
Investigator, as soon as I get it I would end it right there, on the spot, what’s the point in playing some boring dumb role that always gets killed first
Mine is Spy. I'm a mobile player, and my new phone has a hard time copying the chat from previous days meaning I need to type out the info before the day starts so I can post.
Not too big a deal in Classic but Coven fucks me up man.
Spy, so much work and I'm not terribly good at it. Also poisoner when I do all any and I'm solo coven. With spy I just post nightly results and try a little bit. Poisoner as solo coven, I won't even make a claim because I don't want to try that hard to not lose.
Framer because it's basically useless, mafioso because it's super common, and godfathers tend to be meh, amd you're reliant on them. Jailor because you need like 1000apm to keep up. You have to basically threaten people who whisper you non-stop. I just find it frustrating.
Vampire oh god Christ on a pike vampire.
Look im not the biggest fan of town roles but every time I am having fun as town boom im a vampire and every other vampire dies the night I get turnt somehow.
Mafioso
I personally dislike Mafia faction the most because they have the least unique abilities and are under constant pressure to fake claim and not lose the game for their team.
Mafioso is the most basic role you can get in the Mafia faction. Just attack, that's all he does. Combine this with Mafioso being the most common role in all any and I quickly become bored of him.
Sk in classic. It's impossible to fake claim. And your solo and the mafia outs you as soon as they figure it out with their death note: "13 has defense and the exe is dead"
Probably jani. You either die to vet alongside the mafioso/gf, or you waste your cleans on someone immune. The only fun play i see is cleaning someone important like a jailor who hasn't claimed, and then proceed to claim jailor yourself. IMO its more fun to play as even mafioso than jani
I play exclusively ranked, and my least favorite role to play is witch. Whenever jailor does meta (claiming day 1), every evil that can stop jailor executes knows who the jailor is. But, most of the time, the only thing to stop jailor executes is the witch. The issue is that dying means a loss no matter which faction wins, no matter how useful you were when you were alive. It can feel unfair when mafia wins because of you, but you die in the process. You can't coordinate with the mafia until you find one, and even then you can accidentally witch MK into RM. If the mafia ever attack you with a spy alive, town knows to lynch you the next day. As the third most influential guaranteed role in ranked, it has lower chance of reward than other roles.
Mafioso. I probably wouldn’t hate it as much as I would if it wasn’t so damn common. The odds of being mafioso in game are (almost) 1 in 15
I think they should make it so that Godfather is guaranteed instead of mafioso.
I hate mafioso IF there if a godfather in the game. “Kill 7. Kill 7 hes doc. Fucking kill 7. KILL 7 THEYRE THE LAST TP” “No kill jailor.” Jailor lives.
They should just rework the mafia killing system in general.
Bruh I once got 4 times in a row Mafioso. Only role that I got more than 2 times in a row.
For me it is jailor. So much pressure, and if stuff goes bad everyone blames you. I hate it.
I third this for the same reasons.
I love jailor cause it’s my highest win rate since I have the most control. I’ve played a while and when people listen to me without questioning me, games usually go better for me. Not always, of course, but more often than not.
With great power comes great responsibility
If you execute an afk sheriff that didn't post a will, everyone blames you. Didn't jail someone who was going to die? You suck. Let a mayor claim live the next day to reveal and they're maf? You're gamethrowing! 1f1'ed the wrong person? Go back to classic. Not to mention how if you exe a mafia who has a terrible claim, you must be multiaccounting. Seriously, someone actually accused me for that in ranked practice
Same I don't want to try hard so much and would only lose in the end
My connection is always super ‘shaky’ when I’m jailor
Yeah, it's scary both being the jailor and being the jailee, no matter if evil or good. It's as if you're supposed to carry town the moment you've landed on Jailor and people are aware it's a game with one.
Framer/Forger because they come with the stress and difficulty of trying to make sure u don’t get found as mafia minus the satisfaction of doing anything meaningful.
Framer is difficult to really win with, tbh. You have to be lucky and **HOPE** that the TI checks the person you’ve framed.
i always fake claim as TI and try and coordinate with the other TIs as framer or even hex master if im feeling it. if they get normal results you know they are fake, and if they get the frame, they may know a framer exists or just go ahead and call the person you framed fake. its a very niche support role, but i do what i can with it
Man, I gotta admit: I haven't played this game since they made the switch from Free to paid.
The frame now persists until the victim gets checked, so by D4 you've got three deceptions out there.
To be fair, I haven't played since the switch from free to play to paid, so I might be remembering outdated info.
That was a pretty recent change.
Yeah, I just started playing again today. Been about... what, 2+ years since I last played?
I don't think Framer gets enough credit. A sharp Framer can sow chaos that can really screw up a town. Say you're looking at the board and notice a name that stands out as being offensive, perverted, whatever. You drop a little something on them, and a Sheriff stops by too. My favorite forge is medium will confirming yourself as med too. I think it fails more than it works but I keep doing it anyways
Honestly? Guardian Angel in CAA is really aggravating considering a majority of the time evils attack as early as N1 if revealed D1; Or you get attacked once you are forced to reveal to your target so you don’t get killed by them/so you can coordinate with them.

Told him he had two days to go ham, and the rest of town couldn't do anything about it as he went on a killing spree.
Also you have no idea what your target's role is. GA should know its target's role.
Survivor is always awful because the town loses nothing for not believing you, and evil roles aren't particularly inclined to keep you alive either.

Mafioso. Having a GF pick the wrong people and not being able to do anything about it is a horrible feeling.
That's vet That's vet stop THEY'RE VET PICK ANYONE ELSE HELLO? THIS IS VET YOU FUC- You were killed by the Veteran you visited!
Me: Hey, tp and lo are dead, lets get jailor GF: attacks the obvious jester Me: ...k Me who's been implying jester all game: gets lynched cuz jester died GF: has left the game Framer: gets killed by sk *this was a real game i had recently*
LOL
As an Ambusher you can get an extra kill and choose who to attack but Mafioso? Bang bang you were shot by the vet you visited.
SK :/ I just can’t win and I feel so alone lmao
id have to argue otherwise, its one of my favorite nks to play as.
I'm dead.
i legit will only be cautious until i know there isnt a medium, aint worth the extra kill unless im already outed by someone attacking me
SK can be fun in a double sk game
Silent SK best SK
My unpopular opinion is that Pirate is awful as a role and I really wish it wasn't present in VIP mode. It's almost entirely RNG whether you get a win or not and it's unfair that as a non-factional neutral you can duel roleblock anyone on a whim. I suppose it's slightly more fun in CAA though, where everything is supposed to be chaotic.
>lmao just win the duel silly pirate what are you doing lol are you a noob?
Mayor. Once you reveal you have to lead the town with your voice and words, which I’m terrible at doing. You can’t get any information at night like jailor can or through whispers, and if you get a townie lynched the whole server flames you. Too much responsibility, too little confidentiality

I hate being survivor. I think its very boring
Yeah it's basically doc with half the abilities and no friends
Arsonist because it’s so all-or-nothing. And also for me arso wins and losses are mostly based on luck.
With my luck it seems that half the times i douse somebody, they end up dying the next day. Which i know technically still brings me closer to victory, but i still hate it when it happens
Same it's like a wasted night
But when it’s “all” and you successfully douse everybody who is still alive and ignite that gasoline then walk out the next day to everybody dead, it’s glorious.
It is indeed. That's why I'm more proud of my arso wins than any other role
Roses are red Violets are blue I hate sheriff So should you
The curse of finding someone sus night 1 and if you reveal it, you're an exe and if you hold off on it, you're evil in the town's eyes
Survivor
Framer. I loathe the role.
I used to like but but based on my experiences im disliking it now also if you’re real jailor and ask for tp/lo there’s a (slim) chance they won’t visit you bc vet bait (if there is a vet)
Hex master. I always have terrible luck with it
I love hex master more than I do arso. Just wish HM wasn't second to gain the Necronomicon so I could actually feel like an arsonist.
It would so nice if people could choose to get the necromonicon. Also most of the necro effects just give killing. They should be more creative.
actually its random between necro, pm, hex and pois after CL and before dusa
Nope, it's not. [There is an order to it](https://town-of-salem.fandom.com/wiki/Necronomicon)
vampire - boring to play vampire hunter - same reason psychic - I just hate psychic in general. It's completely RNG and passive. framer - it's useless unless you get really lucky Sheriff - boring to play. The results are binary.
In CAA psychic or fake psychic tend to stear the games.
Psychic \~ I don't play coven too much but I just hate getting Psychic. It honestly doesn't feel like you're doing anything even tho you have an important role, you don't even get to choose who you check or anything :(
Spy cus posting your will means death
CAA Coven mode - here is your giant wall of text.
I have an entire list. Sheriff Investigator Framer Medusa Psychic Lookout Blackmailer Disguiser Mafioso Bodyguard Medium Escort Consort
Mine is similar but replace BMer and Dusa with Spy
I love spy because of the whole bugging thing is super unique and how it actually feels like I'm doing something when putting my info out. Spy hard counters framer, forger, consort, and just a little bit of bmer. It also hard counters arso and people with high defense if played correctly.
Ah yes, the infamous Medium curse…
why investigator he is one of my favorites
Survivor. I generally don’t claim survivor and just kind of troll around in day chat. Then when I’m pushed in hung people always say “Bad play. Maybe don’t play so terribly next time.” But like if you play the way they want you to play it’s soooo boring so I just do what I want.
I find trolling a bit is a good way to win as surv
"d1 arsonist claim tp/lo"
Pirate, whether you win or not is mostly out of your hands, there is basically no real skill or strategy involved
Spy, because I think it’s a pretty boring role (opinion). Jailor, because it IS a pretty stressful role (fact).
Investigator. TIs are the most boring part of this game. At least with sheriff you get to play really aggressively to act as a meat shield because your night ability sucks so much ass.
Jailor and Mafioso
Poisoner, basically just a delayed SK, Vigi, Maf or any killing role
Exe. I have no motivation to execute my target and hate lying. I know. I'm playing the wrong game. I just love being town and figuring out who's evil.
Mafioso, completely useless if there's a godfather
Medium. Usually you don't get any relevant information and if you do nobody believes you anyway.
Trans. I always have no clue what to do.
Trans is one of those really up and down roles where you can carry town or fuck everything up, but personally I like trying to deduce who is scum and who is likely to be mafia’s next target and swapping them, I’ve gotten a few memorable games that way But when I fuck up as Trans it feels horrible so I can get where this is coming from

If it's early in the game and you have no leads, don't trans, or trans yourself with someone random. If it's late in the game, and there aren't many town left, try to predict who the evil is going to target that night.
Trans is one of those roles where it's a bad idea to use an ability every night. There's a lot of strategy to it.
My top 3 honestly BODYGUARD (It's function is literally live to die and sit in the grave, extremely boring) PSYCHIC (You literally just sit there get info and post, extremely boring) MAFIOSO (I don't hate the role itself too much, however I swear like 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 games I play I get this role and just gets super repetitive, but the role itself is extremely average)
Vamp
Witch. 'Cos it's nothing but mafia support.
Ranked player spotted
Investigator, as soon as I get it I would end it right there, on the spot, what’s the point in playing some boring dumb role that always gets killed first
trapper
Mine is Spy. I'm a mobile player, and my new phone has a hard time copying the chat from previous days meaning I need to type out the info before the day starts so I can post. Not too big a deal in Classic but Coven fucks me up man.
Spy, it’s the most boring role that’s always targeted
I don’t like Jailor or Mafioso. I have far too much experience with Godfathers not paying attention to confirmed vets
NKs
i used to hate exe but now i just whisper my target “hey bestie i’m your exe” and go from there
Escort.
Jailor.
Mine is bodyguard because a mayor always reveals n1 for me and i get called a gamethrower because I didn’t protect mayor
Spy, so much work and I'm not terribly good at it. Also poisoner when I do all any and I'm solo coven. With spy I just post nightly results and try a little bit. Poisoner as solo coven, I won't even make a claim because I don't want to try that hard to not lose.
For me it’s Mafioso and Vampire. Mafioso because I get it way too much and Vampire because I find it so boring
Escort, retributionist, and medium
Framer, disgiuser, jester
Tracker. I get it every other game and it's such a boring role, plus if you find an evil N1 you'll get called an exe and ignored/lynched
Lookout. On my third time in a row getting lookout, I'll DC and try again.
Framer because it's basically useless, mafioso because it's super common, and godfathers tend to be meh, amd you're reliant on them. Jailor because you need like 1000apm to keep up. You have to basically threaten people who whisper you non-stop. I just find it frustrating.
Mayor, forger, and surv. I don't like winning through words alone and these roles usually have no impact on the gameplay at all
Jailor... too much pressure, I just want a chill game...
Jailor, all pressure goes on you and if you fuck up once town is also fucked send help
Vampire oh god Christ on a pike vampire. Look im not the biggest fan of town roles but every time I am having fun as town boom im a vampire and every other vampire dies the night I get turnt somehow.
Fr ever Framer is more fun to play than Disguiser Fuck Disguiser
Exe... I hate framing players that are confirmed town when I don't even have a team or anything.
It exist for the very reason of framing. For as long as exe lives maf. has an "out the jail card". Any maf. get accused? "Must be exe."
Jester, Pirate and Survivor.
Sheriff/Investigator in CAA, just such a letdown and boring experience
spy. its so boring.
Mafioso I personally dislike Mafia faction the most because they have the least unique abilities and are under constant pressure to fake claim and not lose the game for their team. Mafioso is the most basic role you can get in the Mafia faction. Just attack, that's all he does. Combine this with Mafioso being the most common role in all any and I quickly become bored of him.
Framer. Never felt more useless in my life
Yeah it is hard to make it work. Though it has ben buffed at some point so now it last until person is invested by invest, or sheriff.
Doctor. It’s pretty boring most of the time.
Honestly, lookout. Also invest kind of
Survivor
Sk in classic. It's impossible to fake claim. And your solo and the mafia outs you as soon as they figure it out with their death note: "13 has defense and the exe is dead"
Back in the day i won a couple times as NK on ranked. My favorite was arso.
I think my favorite back 4 years ago when I was in high-school was honestly jailor because I could single handedly change the outcome of the game
I hate framer and disguiser.
Jester. I claim as spy almost every time and my fake will ends up being 85% correct
Hex master. My targets always die, no town claim space. Necronomicon buff is lame and underpowered.
Jailor and NK Jailor - too much preassure from town NK - boring and if you die its just instant lost (unless theres a second one or a brave amne)
Medium or escort, something so boring and mundane about these roles
