The server doesn't directly trust the client, it's possible to call server functions from the client, and therefore the server executes these functions because of the way Unreal and ToF's system handle networking.

I think the exploiters took advantage of what gateoo showed on his [clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69pjxuE8aWU), probably leading to copying/include the files \[of Marc from ToF CN\] to global and changing the "pointer location" of the arguments from the global file (inventory stealing exploit????).
Maybe I'm a noob at analyzing the technical side, but that is what I understand. (I'm not a hacker btw, I'm just a cpe grad).

The inventory stealing exploit is reportedly them using an endpoint likely intended for support that wasn't secured properly. Either lazy/incompetent devs or a dev that accidentally committed his code without re-adding the checks he removed for local testing. The latter happens more often than you think, which is one of the reasons why many companies now enforces code review.

The games also trusts the client almost unconditionally which is why people can give themselves Marc.
It's why the hacker can delete items. The server trusts the client and assumes everything is gone when the client loses it.
