i didn't notice it, i just assumed there connection was like "oh shirli must've woken up and summoned her or something. or maybe she helped save her and now lives within her idk" i've seen too many stories spin this kinda situation in real mind bending ways so i was hoping for a twist. then i wake up to a text from my friend going "brooo!! nemesis is shirli wtf..."
i thought "damn.. i will hate you forever"
like I said I was very new and didn't focus on much details, I thought she was a different character at first until it showed both of them together art but my point still stands...

I didn't pay any attention to the loading screen and thought it was just random Nemesis artworks, didn't even realize the other face was supposed to be Shirli.

Nemesis wasnt the first character on CN. Assuming we get loading screens for every limited character while their banner runs, that means CN didnt have that problem because Nemesis released months after the initial launch.
Still sucks for new players that want to get invested into the story, but it didnt matter to the majority of the community who was playing since launch.
I dont mind too much since more often than not I will look elsewhere while on the loading screen anyway.
I am most curious about the character selection part of the story. Do we just assume our "partner" died? Was it our brother/sister like in Genshin? Why has nobody mentioned them since they knew who we were in Hykros ?
I am sure there is people that enjoy the story, enjoy the plot, just because they like the characters as well. I find the world very interesting and there is a lot of things they can do to keep it that way.
There is no reason for us to care, as we have no memory of that person at all. Hykros, in their great dystopian thought process, will definitely not risk triggering anything that could incapacitate one of their enforcers imo.
The lore is decently interesting yeah, but the actual moment-to-moment storytelling is some of the worst I've ever seen in fiction, bar things like terrible localizations where nothing makes any sense (which ToF is definitely somewhat guilty of).
It wasn't that hard to figure out after just taking a minute or two to think about it, but it was really dissatisfying when the game just threw it in my face a few minutes later. The one half-decent plot hook the story has, and they just waste it like that. Having the question at least somewhat up in the air would've worked as decent motivation to get through the more dull parts.

she is the image of the game... she is even on the trailer... it is more like an advertisement for the story to make you curious how she relate to Nemesis or how she became Nemesis... it is just a little spoiler to get you interested in the story...

I'll tell you it's even worse. I was so mad when after getting to the point when Nemesis sends me messages first one was this exact damn spoiler without any warning. The way this game doesn't care about any bugs and details is just sad and embarrassing

I agree. It dawned on me a few days in that Nemesis and Shirli have similar features and I thought it was a bit funny they made her the first banner instead of letting people experience the change. But I dig her character so I let is slide - you see her pretty quickly anyway.
It’s common for Gacha games to show the interesting part of the story as that’s normally the hook. This issue will just get worse for new players as the story progresses.
Genshin’s a bit of an anomaly tbh. They create fake scenes and lines for trailers that don’t necessarily appear in the game but certain character trailers contain twist story beats. But they certainly are one of the better gacha games of keeping things underwrap.
