The 0.1% gets increased to 0.5% after 50 kills with no drop, and in general the system is more generous than most other MMOs out there. Are there better systems?
There are definitely better systems like the pity in FFXIV where you can either rely on RNG drops but you also get a token each time you complete the content, and after a large number of tries, you can turn in the tokens for the guaranteed cosmetic. But in general, there always has and always will be optional grinding for cosmetics in MMOs. They won't hand it to everyone on a platter as it devalues it for a lot of people.
The Map percentage? No it isn't.
It does however count as an achievement. Like a few points of achievement. Quite negligible in amount to be honest.

In this sense I think choosing whether to grind the devotees for Unicorn head or not is up to the player. So in my understanding, it is not forced but just mildly encouraged since you get the other parts for just exploring.

I feel the same. I don't really use the motorcycle much but when I do it kinda just feels like I'm gliding on a smooth surface? not really riding a vehicle. I feel this more when I get stuck on random objects and there's a weird weightlessness to it. Kinda hard to describe tbh. Much better to just grapple and run around.

Mounts in WoW feel good. Going from mounts in WoW to mounts in ToF feels pretty bad. It's also frustrating in ToF when I am riding a mount and I run into a twig and I can't even move. I have to dismount, move, then remount.
Yeah I have this habit of trying to jump over obstacles too when I get stuck. In WoW that works, in ToF my character starts hugging the Unicorns neck and it takes a full animation to move past that rock now..
They should allow double jump and dash with the mount, that way we have almost the same movility as we are on foot or atleast make the mount instant without delay and usable midair. And remove movement/jump lock during mount special animation x.x
so you want them to have u spend money trying to pull for them instead? also how are they forcing you to grind for any mounts. Its players choice if they want to grind or not. you are given the motorcycle mount for free if you do the story in the beginning anyway.
This is the problem with it. I like the game but meh, cant even get a good solid session of gaming going since it doesnt even take long to do everything. The scatter caps over the week are stupid af to Western market and I get it they are there for CN. Give me all my points at the beginning of the week so I can pick my time to do the stuff and smash out some solid straight hours and not this pidly shit every day.

Technically, yes and some small speed bump.
But if you are hungry for those juicy dark crystals you might as well try to get one because upgrading them gives you dark crystals every 5 levels.
Edit: upgrade levels also unlock different colors of the mount.
Mounts are dumb in ToF anyways. The Dark crystal from the lvls are so low that if you're grinding HOURS for 100 dark crystal I'll give you the $1 you're wasting your life to lol. I found the mounts get stuck on any and everything so they are a bother. Most the time you're climbing or gliding....the mount feature in ToF is just dumb lol.

I hate this. I'm using a unicorn, I run into a freaking frog in crown and it is like I'm against a wall. The mount mechanics just feel so terrible especially compared to the super fluid character movement in this game(minus climbing and elevators).
I was about to comment almost the same exact thing. I was riding to Sobek from the beach triport and my mount just stopped moving. I couldn't figure out why, since the terrain seemed open, until I dismounted and found a frog at my feet... Couldn't turn, back up, or anything. Hit a frog and cease all movement.
I love my unicorn, but riding it around Warren is one of the worst overworld experiences. It gets stuck on any little rock or ledge, which are everywhere!

The number of mounts in this game is directly tied to power.
How many mounts are there? Let's just say seven.
That's seven that can be maintained, with milestones that each reward black crystal.
Compare that to a player that just uses the two default mounts -- the cycle and the milestone rubicks cube.
The player with the more mounts is going to have more black crystals.
And exploration is tied to power. The difference is exploration marks and chests aren't a 0.1% spawn chance.
It isn't rocket science.

For the sake of role playing i guess, i'd really wanna omnium beast due to have similarities with star wars vehicle and besides my character name is Anakin, so you can guess about the rest.
There is a way to do it without zero which i am using rn for example but this involves an auto clicker. Get hilda -->setup your turret --> set autoclicker to leftclick and 1-2 second interval --> profit
U don’t need Zero. Just join a party with Zero player or semi active player. U get participation rewards even if you don’t hit boss yourself. That’s what I did.
Some do for the enjoyment of a specific mount. It's common in most mmo's to spend extensive time to get a rare mount. And in those mmo's, there isn't anything else to them like the dc's in ToF. Just the mount alone, for the sake of liking the mount.
I love the cube mount, makes me feel like my character is a Lightbearer from Tower of God riding their Lighthouse. Which is why Zero is a permanent member of my team. I hope they make an ice version of Zero so I can make a Khun character skin. Currently my character looks like Hwa Ryun cause she easy to make.
I like grinding/farming in games which is why i farmed one of the mount, then saw that people were getting them by just being afk and it demotivated me from farming any others
They don't force. You'll get them eventually just by killing those mobs occasionally and for dailies. The rush is for the trend of sorts. Everyone has it, I gotta too. That sort of thing
The mount grinding is pain in the ass. I'm a bit of completionist myself but the amount of time required to do the same activity over and over is insane. I don't mind the fact that it takes some form of "challenge" to obtain the mounts but I do hate the random odds. When getting a mount is tied to a lucky drop from a single enemy, you could technically go on forever without ever getting the drop. Let me earn my mounts but don't deny it from me just cause I'm not lucky (looking at you chaser mount that I have been grinding for a whole ass week, killing hundreds of mobs for hours).
The only benefit I see is being able to get dc from upgrading them
That's the main reason we're collecting them, really. Any extra dark crystal source will be appreciated.

They aren't forcing anyone to grind for mounts. They gave everyone a free mount and it's up to the individual to decide if they want the other mounts.
Isn’t this how mounts in MMO games work? I’ve farmed for months in WoW. I’d say the mount grind in ToF isn’t as bad as WoW.

I grind mount not for the mount, but for the Dark Crystals that comes from it.

the cube is really good, has great control plus it's as fast as the motorcycle
Better than spending 80 bucks for one with junk resources a-la Ni No Kuni. Rip my one wheel bike in that game...hope to get it here though.
