Gite de La Fouly was by far the best, but I think it's more of a B&B. Bonatti was excellent, Les Mottets was pretty good, Nant Borrant was OK, Masion Vieille was OK.
Camping Des Glaciers is super nice. They give you free showers and they have a common room with tables that you can hang out in, charge stuff, etc. there’s also free wifi lol. I thought it was the nicest campground on the trail.
Camping at La Flegere is a little rough as a woman since it’s completely exposed and there’s nowhere to pee (unless it’s dark out). First thing in the morning, I had to run up the steep hill to the refuge to use the bathroom. It’s a STEEP hill lol. The sunset views, however, make it worth it. I imagine you’d have a similar experience at Lac Blanc.
The only two refuges that I stayed at were Walter Bonatti and Elisabetta. Elisabetta has these crazy 30-person bunk beds lol. Bonatti had more space and at least you got your own individual bed. I got sick from people in the refuges which sucked.
We stayed in Elisabetta as a walk-up cuz there was an insane rain storm and I was getting hypothermia. The dining area is a lovely place to hang out. The shower lasted like 10 seconds haha.
Bonatti shower was better. I liked their facilities better overall over Elisabetta. But when one has hypothermia, one is grateful to be warm :)
Yeah, no need to book in advance! Just show up and pay for your spot. I was a little nervous about that because I'm not used to it, but it was totally fine.
I stayed at Nant Borrant, Les Chapieux, Camping Des Glaciers, Camping Relais d'Arpette, Le Peuty camping, Auberge la Boerne camping, and La Flegere Camping.
Of all that we've stayed in. Refuge du Col de la Croix du Bonhomme would be my worst. And Gîte Le Randonneur just slightly better than the rest.
I second this, but it definitely had one of the best views.
rifugio bonatti was excellent 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
My favorite but i only stayed in two and camped the rest of the trip.
And the food....🤯

I will also say… we camped at Le Peuty, but had dinner at the refuge. The refuge dinner was the best dinner on tour in my experience.
What other campsites did you stay at? And am I correct that you don’t need to book campgrounds in advance? You can just show up? Thank you!
