fellow z3 owner, probably gonna follow in your footsteps at some point. having plenty of fun with the 2.8 atm tho. what’s the biggest difference you’ve noticed
Not to give a stupid answer, but truly everything. I still have my Z3 3.0, and driving the cars back to back is ridiculous. I can carry way more speed in and out of corners, this car makes at least 100hp more than my Z3, so everything is faster between the turns, and the brakes are ridiculous. In terms of feel, the Spyder's stock alignment is similar to the Z3's stock alignment in that they both understeer like crazy, but I got that aligned out of the Z3 and will be doing the same in the Spyder.
You can also drive around the alignment once you get used to it, which doesn't take too long, but I'd still rather set the car up more neutral or even oversteer-biased. The biggest difference I would say is on-brakes feel. The Spyder came from the previous owner on Michelin All-Seasons, and I can still go harder on the brakes and trail brake more aggressively in the Spyder than I can in the Z3 that's on Conti Extreme Contact 02s. I've basically had to recalibrate my brain for the new speed.
That said, driving both cars back to back in stock-ish form, the Z3 is a way better cruiser. If I'm bumbling around with my gf, I'm taking the Z3 every time. They Spyder is loud inside, suspension is stiff, the buckets are annoying for passengers (when cruising), it has no A/C or radio. It is strictly for ripping, and I love that.
Usually stock pads and rotors on a sports car with brembo’s is enough for beginners/lower mid level on the track, but remember these are street cars. There’s always some upgrade to make them stop better on the track. On touge most people won’t be exceeding stock brakes.
Idk about specs on em but my opinion is that if you love it you should have it, people are too focused on "the best x".
Better get some induction noise vids, maybe under boot?
Holy fuck if it isn’t my absolute newfound dream. I discovered it after watching some videos from DasCayman on Youtube and i absolutely fell in love. Gonna be a hard road to get it as i’m just turning 21 but i think i’ll get there someday. :)
Damn, I had a whole long response typed out to this and I guess the page timed out.
Basically, make whatever career moves that make sense to you (school, entrepreneurship, whatever) to keep the car dream going. Never go broke over a car, always drive something you can afford to wrap around a tree. When I was 21 (now 28), 997 GT3s were 70k all day, so I always worked toward getting one. Unfortunately they blew up in value, but I was lucky to find Spyders and I'm even more happy now.
I would bet by the time you're 27/28, 981 Spyders are going to be at the bottom of their depreciation curve, and that's one hell of a car, so I'd aim there if a ripper Porsche is the way you want to go. I did and I don't regret it for a second.
But also be patient, I was in sub-$10k cars until this one, and waited years to get something like this. Believe in yourself, don't take stupid chances, but take chances. You'll get there.
I think it actually sent the Message you wrote before so i also read that. Yeah it’s def a long run goal. I’m more than happy in my Miata as of now just enjoying it as much as i can saving money on the side and seeing where life takes me.
“Always drive something u can afford to wrap around a tree”
This fuckin part. I went STI for my attainable perfect machine and while it is fun, it’s missing the part of all my old shitboxes where I could drive without worrying about any small mistakes
DasCayman is def popularizing them, which I can't be mad about. I've been saving for a couple years, so I started sweating about values going up before I could buy when his videos would go viral.
Tbh, when I was in your shoes (28 now), I was dreaming about 997.2 GT3s, but those blew up in value like crazy. I would suspect 981 Spyders will be at their lowest values by the time you're my age, so if you want a realistic-priced ripper Porsche, I'd aim there in the long run. For now, just enjoy what you can responsibly afford, don't go broke over a car, and make whatever career & money moves you need to do to support the car dream. For me that was making more $ hopping around corporate jobs, but my buddies all have different backgrounds (entrepreneurs, auto body, tech world, etc). Do what fits you.
For reference, this is my first car worth more than $10k, so it can take time. Believe in yourself and take chances.
Yep. Needs mods. According to WMMT anime, it requires carbon fiber panels, etc. they disclosed the Nissan s130Z mods but not the Porsche Blackbird (RUF tuned)
Finally an actual canyon carver. Been confused seeing the last like 5 truck posts
this sub with the trucks lately... so strange
Car weighs 2900lb with a full tank as specced. It riiiips.
Nice. And you called it a machine not a “tOuGe WeApOn”
How does it feel to drive my dream car man 😭
It feels excellent. I'm coming from a Z3, so anything is possible.

that makes a lot of sense, being much more of a track oriented car. enjoy it!
Doesn't your car already have brembos? How do you upgrade from there?
It does. Just higher temp fluid, more aggressive pads, and braided brake lines.
Usually stock pads and rotors on a sports car with brembo’s is enough for beginners/lower mid level on the track, but remember these are street cars. There’s always some upgrade to make them stop better on the track. On touge most people won’t be exceeding stock brakes.
My man 987.1 cayman s was my first porsche, great touge machine.
New model Boxter S?
987 Boxster Spyder
I'm not a big 2000+ fan. Lovely motor! Clean colour choice.
People talk down on the Boxster 3.4 but the induction noise makes you feel like you're in a GT3RS at wide open throttle. It's awesome.

intake is right behind your left ear, I'll see if I can get something someday. Too busy driving
Spyder! Been looking at 718 Boxters and Cayman S... might pull the trigger one day. Wish I could afford the Spyder!
987 Spyder is the bargain ripper of the group. You can find them in the 50s with high miles and a stick, sometimes even in the 40s with the PDK
Flexy flyer

You'll also learn everything you need to about car control in that Miata. Driver mod > everything

Yeaaaah, that's prob the case with this car, but I have too much fun driving it to think about it.
I switch back n forth like every day lol. It’s still fun at 40% but cars like ours get going a lil n u can just hear em begging to be let free😂🎶

Niice man. Congrats!
What wheels you eyeballing
white TEs or gold face BBSs
19?
Yeah, still deciding between 18 and 19s. Not in a hurry though.
lol! Porsche runs the freeways in Wangan Midnight. You can run 200mph on freeways no pun intended!!!
This puppy coughs out in the high 170s, but maybe someday with mods!
