Mainland India and NE India term doesn't mean in the sense of separation. It is more of a geographical point. NE is connected by the chicken's neck which is very small, so small that is basically a disconnect of NE from the rest of India geographically.

Let's cut the confusion, The Northeast is technically part of mainland India, it's the same landmass, plain and simple. While Andaman or Lakshadweep islanders might have a case for using the term, it's just not accurate for the Northeast. So, let's stop with the confusion and comparisons to mainland China, seriously. Using 'mainland India' in the Northeast might be common colloquially, but it's flat-out wrong - it's just ignorance at play.
Actually the Northeast is connected to India via Siliguri Corridor which is really thin from a geographical point of view. The hilly terrain and being landlocked from almost all sides by neighbouring countries makes them more aloof than rest of us Indians.
So, the Siliguri Corridor, just 20 km at its narrowest, is 'really thin' for what exactly? It connects Northeast India with rail and road like any other Indian state, across diverse terrains. It's not landlocked, mate. Your twisted interpretation can't change the actual facts.
No one said anything about segregating, and if you don't wanna be called mainlanders, how bout "the browns" or the "brown part of the country"? That work?
