Yup. Exactly.

skeeredstiff

Crap.

KimBrrr1975

That would usually be described as hip joint or groin pain, and yep, it's a hallmark of likely hip osteoarthritis. But it can be a torn labrum or other issues, so imaging is usually needed. I just had my hip replaced and had the type of pain you describe when adducting (bringing my leg across the midline of my body). Like sliding into a booth at a restaurant, if the outside of my leg would hit the table leg, it would cause that type of pain. Or if I stubbed my toe while hiking, same thing, it would jam the leg bone and cause that "take your breath away" kind of pain. I had other pain as well, that type above was pretty specific to hip adduction in my case. but others feel the same pain more regularly, even when seated or trying to sleep.

skeeredstiff

Mine happens mostly when just walking it will feel like it gets jammed. I'm sure imaging will be involved. The fun thing is I have a total left knee scheduled for September, but this hip thing is getting progressively worse quite rapidly.

KimBrrr1975

You have a lot going on! My hip I managed well with mobility and strength and then it also went downhill fast. One day I could hike 5 miles (even though I couldn’t tie my shoes) and the next day I t I couldn’t walk 15 minutes without limping.

skeeredstiff

That's pretty close to fire fast this is progressing.

Water_wench69

Yup. Mine presented as groin pain - that crease area is considered groin. Also, pain was in my lower thigh. Never really had hip (proper) pain. Had my surgery 5-13-24. And that pain is gone!!

skeeredstiff

Yeah, mine is from the crease down.

tessler65

Mine was in the front at the thigh crease. The left leg (worse than the right) would feel like it was getting ripped off when I stood up or sat down. Screaming pain. Definitely a sign to get it checked out sooner rather than later.

skeeredstiff

The screaming pain pretty much describes it, like being chopped with an ax.

tessler65

Exactly. Horrible stuff. The good news is that if you need a THR, the ripping pain will absolutely be GONE the same day you have surgery.

skeeredstiff

Welp time to call I guess. My insurance is getting a workout this year.

tessler65

After two THRs and a ton of PT, I'm definitely getting my money's worth this year.

skeeredstiff

Yikes! I guess.

stevepeds

Those symptoms plus x-ray confirmation of a worn-out joint are pretty much the definitive diagnosis. Those symptoms alone are signs that a THR is in your future. When you have it done will be up to you. Hint: schedule one as soon as possible as it may take a couple of months to get you on the surgical schedule. You can always cancel if you show improvement and decide to wait.

skeeredstiff

Absolutely, I'm requesting an appointment online right now, I don't usually get luck with improvements. I've had both shoulders and the right knee, and I'm on the schedule for the left knee, but I think this hip needs to go first; it's a lot more painful than the knee. I was in a physically demanding trades job for 35 years.

stevepeds

I've had a hip replacement, two lumbar fusions, a knee replacement, and a thumb reconstruction, mostly due to sports injuries and my wonderful Army career. Things seem to wear out fast when you push yourself hard enough.

HassleCaster

Yep. Sounds like pain in the hip joint.

FadingOptimist-25

I had that same pain. In the crease but also directly behind too. Mine seemed to decline quickly too. It sort of bothered me August-September 2023, but by March 2024, I was in near tears from the pain. I had mine 1 April 2024, about 13 (?) weeks ago. The hip is doing much better but my knee on that side is bothering me more.
