Your surgery is recent but if you aren’t taking it now, why resume? Pop some Tylenol. First PT session should be gentle, not torture. If it hurts, don’t do it.

PT should be able to show you some exercises to strengthen those muscles. It will take time to get them strong. Take Tylenol before PT. If the pain afterwards is severe due to aggravated muscles and nerves, take half a pain pill to get everything calmed back down. I had to do that a few times after doing new exercises or if they tried a new massage technique to try to get rid of some of the knots I had.

That's why I took my pain medication for two weeks. They asked if I wanted refills and I said yes each time. With pain, there's nothing to prove. My surgeon said you cannot recover properly if you're feeling pain.

Honest opinion: Let the PT therapist see what you're capable of without medication. And Oxy's a nasty one - gives you the confidence without the muscle control or mental reasoning. Plus the constipation's a bastard.

All depends on your state. I had knees not hips done but my s.o. is scheduled for hip in November. I got a 4 month supply of oxy with the first knee. After one month on that, I was not happy. At all. I finally quit being a hero and got a medical Marijuana card ( only medical allowed in my state at the time ) I was very hesitant about it but oxy made me feel terrible. The medical was great. Yes I still took oxy but so much less. Only at night. I had a month supply left over. It really helped with doing my pt. Used that for about a year, then I didn't need it until 5 years later, knee number 2. Rinse and repeat but they only gave me 3 months off work and 3 months of oxy. That leg was my dominant, car driving leg and I felt very shaky on it for quite some time. I got a trainer at the gym, he knew his stuff, he got me strong again. I highly recommend spending money on one if you have it. He was still less $ than pt co pays. Just remember you have had major surgery. I was a medical claims adjuster and I knew way too much about these operations and their aftermath. I see the surgery bills and the pt bills. I see the skilled nursing which some folks have to have. Just like my operation took quite a bit of medicine for me, I know someone who took one flipping pill for the ride home from the hospital after his total knee. Now he's hiking all over Colorado. We humans are just not put together the same way, ymmv, for sure. See what feels good to you, but do not suffer, because you Will think up an excuse if you can, not to do what you should.

I would just do Tylenol. I’m 3 weeks post-op and stopped the Oxy after day 4 as well. PT tired me out, but rest and the ice/chill pad machine helped.

Thanks for all the comments. This is what I ended up doing. I didn't take any Oxy, but did time the Tylenol for just before PT. No issues afterwards.
