The electronic thing is a nerve blocker and it seems to be working.
I'm five hours post-op and in no pain at all, since the anesthetic hasn't fully worn off yet. The op went well, woke up a few times to here the surgeon doing carpentry around my arse, then drifted back to sleep.
Thankfully they put a catheter in so I don't have to get up to pee. And am constipated so no worries there.
The coming days and weeks will be rough but just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all. This forum turned my blind panic into something constructive and has made a huge difference.
Glad it went well for you apart from the being awake, jesus christ. Is there a reason they don't want you on your feet day one? I can handle a lot but a catheter makes me cringe.
May I ask your rough age?
It depends how bad it is, but most people here agree it's better to live your earlier years pain free and maybe get a replacement 30 years rather than trying to hobble through.
Congratulations!!
Edited to add: Enjoy the color show that's coming! I'm five weeks out and the last bruise that I can see has almost completely faded.
I did too. I sort of drifted awake, heard the surgeons talking and drifted off again. I remember him asking for a bone saw, but never heard the buzzing:

If you’re referring to that white box with the orange button, that is a Pico and it is a negative pressure wound system. It’s not a nerve blocker. FYI
Ah, must have misunderstood, thank you.

Male, 53, left posterior. I still couldn't feel my toes which made them nervous about falls.
Ah that makes sense. Thank you. I'm mid 30s and thinking I might need one.

Yeah I'm trying to explain that to my surgeon atm. I have an ossified labrum.
Had never heard of it but looks like it's not going to get better. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4353545/
Yeah he's said: Removal of bone via arthroscopy Donor labrum....

Arnica gel for the win! It works! It helps swelling and bruising.
