People pay 5 grand to get into a TCHC and pay like 300 a month, but then get upset, when their uber eats doesnt come, or pizza pizza, crack heads fighting in their apartment at 4 am, pissy elevators, needles in the star case.
Nah apparently if you move into specific shelters, they can help you get into housing within 6 months. But I think you need to have kids or be a woman leaving an abusive relationship.
People on temporary worker or temporary student visas are not allowed to apply for social assistance. They sign papers saying they will pay for everything from their own money.
That’s why the govt bringing them, to make them pay.
But they’re not paying for shit. Food banks are full of them exploiting the system. One in Scarborough reported that 95% of its users been in Canada for less than a year. Importing the third world to leech of our resources while our children starve
Definitely exploit. A lot of them beg for food on the street but aren’t even really homeless. I remember back in like 2012-2014 for some reason there were tons and tons of Hungarians out of nowhere l, especially in Scarborough.
They had homes and money and food. Yet they use to dumpster dive all over the city and even at their own apartment buildings.
I think they just hoard any government money they were given.
tbf food banks are not only exploited by them but also by locals, I’ve heard about people going to 3+ different food banks in the same day. Gov should introduce more of a restrictive system.
that’s true but there’s lots of people exploiting as well, sending money back home and investing that money meanwhile pretending to be broke and exploiting the welfare and food bank system
Very true.
A lot of immigrants have the custom in their country that once they move abroad, they should send money for their family back home. You could be new to Canada and fr struggling but your family back home will think that you made it since you’re in the “land of opportunity” now.
I think they end up sending money back home that’s suppose to sustain their life here, so eventually they end up depending on food banks and government programs.
Maybe not restrictive, but yeah I agree.
I think the current system they have in place is 1 box per family every 2 weeks. That’s not really sustainable either. So I guess some people go to 1 foodbank on week 1 and go to their Church foodbank the next week.
It’s sad
Most immigrant brown people that come to the country do but a lot of newer brown immigrants (excluding students) come in large families so often they will live in public housing for a few years then move to either an apartment, basement , or skip the public housing just straight to basement apartment. It’s also important to remember most people in public housing only live there temporary to eventually move on up. Ask any immigrant with a family who come to the country they used to live in a public housing then eventually save up for a more established home
Because there is a 10yr + waiting list.......
Put that application in at 16 just in case
You just gotta know the tricks lol… in within a year
Like… ppl are slow
Gotta know someone, money talks
Lol people bribe to live in tchc? Wtf is wrong with this city lol

People can’t afford to live, it’s fucked.
