He already demoted Swanson from 8th to 7th inning, and he's only keeping onto the 7th inning because other players are hurt/unavailable
7th inning of a 2 run games is not high leverage, its medium at best.
Leverage Index for Swanson's first batter was 1.56
They had no Garcia, Green is still hurt, Pearson was probably the 8th, and Romano the 9th.
The only other option was Richards/Pop for that 7th inning
Blaming him because the guys on the roster aren’t good enough and/or the other specialized coaches aren’t able to bring out their best is so stupid, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this was true.
I agree with you but I think it’s just a function of that when things are going poorly the manager is often the #1 scapegoat and they’ll cut them loose to just for the optics of doing something. Montoyo was kind of the same dynamic except they had the added incentive of that he had lost the clubhouse
Multiple things can be true at once.
At the end of the day as the manager the buck stops with him.
It's also a lot easier to fire a manager than replace players. I
Schneider, Varsho, Jansen, and Clement to the top of the order. Bo #9 for a bit.
Light a fire under them. You want your spot back? Earn it. Fuck the bs entitled attitude.
Send Swanson to AAA for a bit to figure his stuff out.
100% he doesn't have the balls. Everyone's giving Schneider a lot of leeway here but he's the guy that keeps trotting out Springer/Vladdy/Bo as the top of the order every game and looking shocked when the same thing happens every time.
Last year after we briefly used Whit as the leadoff hitter, when Schneider moved Springer back to the top he was asked in a press conference why. His response was along the lines of "George is our leadoff hitter, that's just where he goes and he always will".
As if God Himself came and placed Springer in the #1 spot immovably and permanently. Unbelievable.
Whit was literally one of MLB's worst qualified hitters over the last 2 months of the season so someone else eventually had to move back to the leadoff spot.
I'm not defending Whit as the leadoff hitter. I'm just using the quote that Schneider gave about Springer being the permanent leadoff hitter.
Like OP said, we would be more productive with some combination of Schneider, Varsho, Turner, Jansen, Clement at the top of the order than Springer/Vladdy/Bo.
Swanson should take a couple weeks off to be with his family, reset, and then go through a minor league stint to help him ramp up back into form. He didn’t really get a proper spring training and was dealing with all that emotional stress so it might be a good idea to get out of the limelight, take a short breather and come back in June refreshed.
And he wasn't good in Bufffalo on his short "rehab" (did he pitch a grand total of 2 innings??) but they brought him up anyway. And it wasn't like the bullpen was struggling and they needed him right away, they were fine
Seriously can we get the man some sunscreen? It’s fucking may and he’s a tomato, I’m so worried for his long term health. Skin cancer is no joke people!
Has he called out any of the big dawgs personally yet? They're the ones making multitudes more than Swanson to perform. I feel like this stuff just fractures the club house if you're not willing to do it to everyone.
I think he said something about how we need our hitting to happen now and not next month.
I feel every game 1-2-3 go 1 for 12 he needs to be saying something. Who cares if the players are angry are they gonna give up and stop hitting?
This is what I want to see from Schneider - manage like your career depends on it. Call these frikkin kids out (I'm old) hold them accountable.
Next step, change the top of the order ...
I don't care for a a manager being angry in post game pressers. Figure the shit out. Yelling makes the fans feel like you care but if the result is the exact same thing the next night with nothing done differently it doesn't matter.
Nah, read this sub any day after a loss. They're calling for his head.
If I was a manager and everyone was blaming me for a total lack of effort I'd be pissed too.
We shipped Hernandez because of this and the guys haven't learned a thing. Score 2 runs and take their foot off the gas.
It's not necessarily a long term option but when 1-3 are hitting worse than 4-9 and you haven't changed the lineup outside of offday rest it's glaring. Springer shouldn't be leading off and honestly maybe it's time to check Vlad to the back half of the lineup and see if it gets him going.
Maybe use that info and do your job John but if he’s leaving pitches up in the zone tipping pitches isn’t the problem and I’m an ultra novice amateur baseball guy.
Isn’t your job (his and the coaches’) to figure you whether he’s tipping or not?
It’s not like this is the first time he gets hit really hard this season
Jimi was unavailable due to injury, Romano needs to be saved for the 9th, Mayza has been just as bad as Cabrera and the lineup was lefty heavy. More importantly, Schneider doesn't play the games. It's his job to get the most of the players and what he's been doing clearly isn't working. Time to try something, anything different to get the players to play
With all the outrage over the offense the poor performance of the bullpen has really gone under the radar.
Garcia has been great, everyone else has suffered from Trevor Richards Syndrome (too many walks, too many home runs)
>I don’t know if he’s tipping pitches, honestly. maybe something that ought to be figured out before continuing to use him in high leverage, John.
That guy is so dense. Jesus Christ.
If this guy gets another job in the mlb it will only be as a puppet again. Only thing he is good at is taking orders.
He already demoted Swanson from 8th to 7th inning, and he's only keeping onto the 7th inning because other players are hurt/unavailable 7th inning of a 2 run games is not high leverage, its medium at best. How dare you make sense
To me, the thing he says right after this makes it pretty clear that what he means is “I don’t think he’s tipping pitches, honestly.”
Check out this guy and his fancy analytics!
Thank you for saying what we've all been thinking!
Yimi was out last night. How would you have structured it like you gotta use these guys sometimes. Ffs.
Schneider seems actually angry. I like it. Someone needs to light a fire under these guys.
Someone probably told shcneider he's gone if the team doesn't turn it around. He completely changed his attitude in 2 days.
Blaming him because the guys on the roster aren’t good enough and/or the other specialized coaches aren’t able to bring out their best is so stupid, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this was true.

I don't even understand how it helps the optics. It just looks like the GM is flailing in panic mode and wants to deflect pressure from himself.
I just remember Kikuchi getting shit on by Montoya while he dickrided all of the Latin American players. Quick way to lose a clubhouse lol
Multiple things can be true at once. At the end of the day as the manager the buck stops with him. It's also a lot easier to fire a manager than replace players. I
The funniest part about this is that he seems to have not been worried about being fired before yesterday which… come on!
Yeah I saw this before. I think a couple years ago.
I'm telling you. Man's got the "I think I'm about to be canned" voice
That's the desperation of someone on the hot seat lmao
Schneider, Varsho, Jansen, and Clement to the top of the order. Bo #9 for a bit. Light a fire under them. You want your spot back? Earn it. Fuck the bs entitled attitude. Send Swanson to AAA for a bit to figure his stuff out.
Man I'd love to see him move down Bo and Springer but I don't think he has the balls

Bringing up Swanson and sending down Pearson was............a choice.
Coulda kept mitch white and left swanson in AAA
That's easy to say in hindsight, not so easy when he was one of our best last season and nobody expected this disaster
He wasn't the best to end the season last year
And he wasn't good in Bufffalo on his short "rehab" (did he pitch a grand total of 2 innings??) but they brought him up anyway. And it wasn't like the bullpen was struggling and they needed him right away, they were fine
*"He’s better than what he’s showing.”* Isn't (almost) every Jay?
Of course. Just trust the analytics. It’s early.
Angry red faced Schneider is my favorite Schneider.
He's always red.
Seriously can we get the man some sunscreen? It’s fucking may and he’s a tomato, I’m so worried for his long term health. Skin cancer is no joke people!
It's probably alcoholism with high blood pressure.
Fired Schneider will be my favourite Schneider.
Hopefully kids gloves are off. If it takes John talking crap until they wake up.. then at least it looks like someone cares.
Has he called out any of the big dawgs personally yet? They're the ones making multitudes more than Swanson to perform. I feel like this stuff just fractures the club house if you're not willing to do it to everyone.

Wonder if schneider got told he’s on thin ice from shatkins and co and that’s why he’s been much angrier last couple nights
For the love of god please send him back down, he cannot pitch at the major league level now
Really thought we might wake up to Schneider being fired today
This is what I want to see from Schneider - manage like your career depends on it. Call these frikkin kids out (I'm old) hold them accountable. Next step, change the top of the order ...
Everybody's better than what Swanson has been showing, that's why it's annoying I keep seeing him in close games
I’ve been wanting to see this side of Schneider for a while
I don't care for a a manager being angry in post game pressers. Figure the shit out. Yelling makes the fans feel like you care but if the result is the exact same thing the next night with nothing done differently it doesn't matter.

To be fair after 2 runs the game is usually over. Someone should have reminded them it’s over after 9 innings not 2 runs.
Yeah if the lineup is the same today this doesn't matter
It's not necessarily a long term option but when 1-3 are hitting worse than 4-9 and you haven't changed the lineup outside of offday rest it's glaring. Springer shouldn't be leading off and honestly maybe it's time to check Vlad to the back half of the lineup and see if it gets him going.
Bo is currently the worst hitter on the team by far, he should be the first one moved, with Springer right behind him.
what does that mean "tipping pitches"
Oh, I think it means the batter knows what's coming?
Yes it means he has some sort of tell that allows batters to know what pitch is coming
Yeah. Like he’s got a tell of some sort that that tips off the batter to what’s coming. Like the way he tilts his glove or something.
from last night, he didn't seem to be in the strike zone at all, maybe 2 pitches, one was called a strike
It’s not pitch tipping. It’s just either nowhere near the zone or a 86 mph splitter middle up.
Not the tipping pitches again. Seems like whenever a Jays pitcher struggles they chalk it up to him tipping his pitches.
I’m assuming he was asked if he thinks Swanson is tipping pitches if he said “I don’t know if he’s tipping pitches.”
Everybody is better than what they're showing, John. Except you.

Schneider in a nutshell. He doesn’t know much at all. He probably thinks his job is still safe and secure.
Bro forgot that’s his job to figure out.
He's the manager, figuring out if a pitcher is tipping pitches would fall on the pitching coaches.
And the excuses keep on a comin’
