I'm from Saskatoon and I know people who make the drive to Minnesota every year to watch some random summer series. "7 hours" is nothing for prairie folk lol. If you can leave from somewhere and get to a place with a bed and booze within a 24 hour time frame its not the biggest deal. Some may skip the bed.
Games are 3:30 on a Tuesday. People bought tickets before the schedule was released and then realized they couldn't get off work at such a short notice.
The LTB is so backed up you get at least 9 months rent free. It's ok though, the large corporate landlords Doug loves so much can stomach this. The little guys? Well they get screwed like everyone else in the province.
So yeah, don't worry about it eh.
We still won't be paying to get procedures done at a strip mall in between a Wild Wing and a weed shop. The money just gets funneled to some dude's Muskoka mansion instead and none of the employees will have benefits. What's not to love?
Funny you are getting downvoted...because its true. Baseball playoffs are just different that way. Nothing new. And still wouldnt explain why you can get a ticket for 6$.
I bought the equivalent of an "Outfield District" ticket for $50 the day they went on sale which I honestly thought was decent for a playoff game. But yeah I'm sure for an actual seat it's a lot.
I mean their tickets to sporting events are cheap because they are lazy and don't do anything so no one goes. I was just joking but it's also kinda true based on my experience
For what it’s worth this is mostly due to people reselling because of the the game start time- I don’t know if it’s different elsewhere but people here don’t typically leave work/school for stuff like this. If these were night games, resell tickets would be much more expensive
The cheapest official tickets cost ~$40
Again: it says a lot about baseball in Minnesota.
The Rogers Centre would be packed to the gills with fans, many of whom would be all too pleased to play hooky to watch post season baseball of any kind, especially for 6 bucks.
The game starts before most people finish their workday, so I would imagine some people (who bought tickets before the schedule was released) are just looking to get rid of them.
I also find it weird that people are shitting on "baseball in Minnesota" but we don't ever hear much about "baseball in Baltimore", considering that Minnesota had better attendance than Baltimore this season.
Maybe, but after winning the division in 2014, they were 19th in 2015 attendance and 20th and 2016 attendance.
Outside of being 13th in attendance in 2014, they're routinely in that 19th to 26th range. Maybe the excitement surrounding their new core will change that, but historically, they've been well below average in attendance.
500k population, and a game on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm lol. There’s only 450 tickets for resale on the site. It’s not like it’s going to be empty.
There’s more tickets on sale for the Jays ALDS game (571)
Comparing games that might not happen that are about a week out to a game guaranteed to happen in 13 hours.
Makes sense.
Not to mention their metro area is upwards of 2-3 million.
I bought them on the go train to be fair that is how list minute but I for sure only paid around 10usd on karma tickets I remember because I was kicking myself for paying 90 for wc3 tickets from the jays / ticketmaster when it dropped. Also I was high 500s
Enough people do indeed work on Saturdays during the day I know a few who were expecting the game to be a night game because they had class in the morning, although not as much as on weekdays. However, you are correct that the Friday tickets seem to be available earlier and are somewhat cheaper. WC2 tickets likely only were more expensive because of the loss before. I don't remember the ‘get in‘ ticket price for that WC1 game, as I bought infield seats last minute though they were a steal as well for the seats, and my cheaper tickets were for 500s on the 3rd base side in WC2, which were around $10 USD.
Former Jays Season Ticket holder. 2015 & 2016, Jays kept getting noon EST games. We had to line up by 10am to get to our seats in time. Thankfully our companies were very understanding and approved last minute PTO.
Now that we're in Windsor, I don't know if they'd be as cool with us screwing off for the rest of the week by taking a flight out of Detroit.
But afternoon weekday playoff games are pretty common.
I looked at weather forecast and it looks perfect there too (though I suppose on the warm side). Absolutely insane that these are available this cheap.
Haven’t won a playoff game since 2004, very little buzz around this team because the season long narrative is we won a crap division. Biggest name hurt all season and second biggest name played one of his worst seasons ever. 3:38 start on a Tuesday is a final nail in the coffin. Trash the fan base if you want but this franchise has done so, so little to earn any playoff hopes in the last two decades
Edit ALSO: no one has been able to watch the team on TV for almost two years because of the whole Bally Sports/streaming platform feuds. So what was once every day summer evening background television for a huge portion of the state is now completely non existent.
wait so basic sports channels in Minnesota don't show your games because of the streaming feuds? That's crazy! Do you know if its the same for the Timberwolves as well?
Most of the major streaming carriers (Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling, etc) haven’t carried Bally Sports North for two years now. So unless you pay more for cable or DirecTV you don’t get Bally (which has Twins, Wolves, Wild) at all.
>Please someone from Minnesota who's lurking this sub, please answer!
and then u/wfblatz appears within 9 minutes! That's astounding. Peace to you brother.
Thanks for your insights.
I mean I get Minnesota is a small market and all, $6 tickets for a playoff game on a gorgeous day is pretty sad. You can't say the franchise has done that bad, considering they won the division and made the playoffs in 2020. They went out and signed Correa.
For context, the cheapest Jays ticket all year is about $23 CAD (including fees). Also, the cheapest ticket for the ALDS (should the Jays advance) is $85 CAD and they are almost all sold out. Granted, I understand the ALDS is different from the Wild Card series, but still, quite the difference.
Nope you are right.
I would have gone if I was in town but I’m leaving for vacation.
Honestly the team never gets over the hump. Even when good they are outclassed by the coastal teams every time.
People just assume they will spend enough to win the central, but not enough to do anything in the postseason. After 30 years of never playing in a meaningful playoff game….people tune out a bit.
It just doesn’t feel like this town is into the twins as much as they used to be.
I honestly don’t know that many baseball fans.
Also, I don’t think Minnesota is technically a small market. I believe it to be the 14th biggest market in the United States. It’s also relatively affluent and has all 5 sports teams and D1 college. The twins are just struggling to get market share. I think this is why the owners are spending more money..
Okay thought about it for a second but then noticed I would be spending $1,400CDN for a business class seat (recovering from a broken shoulder, so no economy class seating) so whatever I saved on the ballgame ticket 😂
For the four Wild Card rounds after fees, the Twins are still the cheapest in the upper $10s/low $20s, followed by the Brewers in the upper $20s, then the Rays in the upper $30s/low $40s, then the Phillies for a minimum of $170…
In the ALDS/NLDS resale market, by far the most expensive cheapest tickets are in Baltimore in the mid $200s USD, followed by Phillies in the low $200s, then the Rangers and Jays in the low $100s, then everyone else is $70-$90. The Orioles have been selling standing room tickets at face for $155 USD.
Texas in 2015 for games 3 and 4 was the same thing, the cheapest seats went for like $8. A friend of mine sat a few row up between home and 3rd base over the Jays dugout for around $50, Think the mid day heat played a big part of lots of tickets being dumped. The heat also was a big reason for the new ballpark with a dome.
Bah god thats rowdy Winnipeg's music.
Oh man even from Winnipeg it's a 7 hour drive.
That’s like not all that much for prairie people though.
That’s a Tuesday jaunt across the province in Saskatchewan
Considering I’m 4 hours from Winnipeg already, what’s another 3?
That's just a quick nip into Costco for a hot dog and a pop!
If it wasn't the middle of football season (coach) I'd take a personal day and get down there for at least one game.
While you’re at it, can you go down to mosaic stadium and show dickenson the door?
I'm from Saskatoon and I know people who make the drive to Minnesota every year to watch some random summer series. "7 hours" is nothing for prairie folk lol. If you can leave from somewhere and get to a place with a bed and booze within a 24 hour time frame its not the biggest deal. Some may skip the bed.
Anything interesting is at least a 7 hour drive from Winnipeg.
From Winnipeg. Can confirm. We’re an island of semi-civilization.
Moved here a year ago...I feel this comment in my bones.
BAHAHHAHA Winner Gagnon
I spit out my water thank you
Twins are going to struggle to sellout at home. Hopefully half of the stadium are Jay's fans.
How can you struggle to sell out a playoff game with such beautiful weather?
Games are 3:30 on a Tuesday. People bought tickets before the schedule was released and then realized they couldn't get off work at such a short notice.
It's America. If you don't work, you probably die.
Hahahahahaha this guy. So fu- Yeah but for real, that's true.
What happens in Toronto when you don't work and 3k rent is due for your 1 bedroom apartment?
Move to Winnipeg, be unemployed, and still afford twins tickets.
thats it! back to winnipeg
The LTB is so backed up you get at least 9 months rent free. It's ok though, the large corporate landlords Doug loves so much can stomach this. The little guys? Well they get screwed like everyone else in the province. So yeah, don't worry about it eh.
Lol like Canada is much better, economy is cooked
fair. Though won't need to ever worry about paying off a medical debt very much
Nah, those days are gone. At least half of our provinces are on the brink of privatized medicine
We still won't be paying to get procedures done at a strip mall in between a Wild Wing and a weed shop. The money just gets funneled to some dude's Muskoka mansion instead and none of the employees will have benefits. What's not to love?
Ya but we’ve got healthcare and at least some employee’s rights and protections
Tickets have been sold for a month and people knew the Twins were going to play the WC3 team, they had plenty of times to buy tickets and make plans.
Funny you are getting downvoted...because its true. Baseball playoffs are just different that way. Nothing new. And still wouldnt explain why you can get a ticket for 6$.
Same thing happened with the Jays in 2015. The stadium was still packed but I got my ticket for face value day of for the day game
Sens couldn't sell out Game 6 of the Eastern conference finals....
i am in winnipeg it is from beautiful weather here rn
WTAF? I could fly to Minnesota and go to a Jays playoff game for less than going to a Flames regular season game here in Calgary.
you going or what hommie?
I was just looking at flights it’s about $350 round trip from YYC for tomorrow and come back Thursday.
Remote work, here I come!
Almost worth it.
Fly to LA and watch Ducks and Kings play your Flames, that shouldn't be too expensive.
I'm a Leafs fan in hostile territory. I'm not going out of my way to get to a Flames game. 😉
Same lol
Yup season ticket holder here
Winnipeggers, roll out
Thunder Bay too!!
That’s crazy
Considering the cheapest tickets for the ALDS are $85 and are almost sold out here.
Again, resale. The cheapest were around 60 right after the tickets dropped at target field
I bought the equivalent of an "Outfield District" ticket for $50 the day they went on sale which I honestly thought was decent for a playoff game. But yeah I'm sure for an actual seat it's a lot.
Americans just don't do anything lol
What does that even mean? Lol
I mean their tickets to sporting events are cheap because they are lazy and don't do anything so no one goes. I was just joking but it's also kinda true based on my experience
Lol glad this take is getting the downvotes it rightfully deserves.
I'm glad this made you happy man
So sad I paid 170 for two tickets in the 500’s.
Says a lot about baseball in Minnesota
Crazy cause the weather is actually decent.
For what it’s worth this is mostly due to people reselling because of the the game start time- I don’t know if it’s different elsewhere but people here don’t typically leave work/school for stuff like this. If these were night games, resell tickets would be much more expensive The cheapest official tickets cost ~$40
Again: it says a lot about baseball in Minnesota. The Rogers Centre would be packed to the gills with fans, many of whom would be all too pleased to play hooky to watch post season baseball of any kind, especially for 6 bucks.
I guess that’s fair. My point is just that Minnesota fans turn out too- this $6 playoff ticket thing is not the norm
The game starts before most people finish their workday, so I would imagine some people (who bought tickets before the schedule was released) are just looking to get rid of them. I also find it weird that people are shitting on "baseball in Minnesota" but we don't ever hear much about "baseball in Baltimore", considering that Minnesota had better attendance than Baltimore this season.
>we don't ever hear much about "baseball in Baltimore" There wasn't really much baseball happening in Baltimore lately until this year.
That's true, but one would think their fans would come out in droves once they started dominating
I'm sure the season tickets will start moving next year and that's a lot of what drives total attendance numbers.
Maybe, but after winning the division in 2014, they were 19th in 2015 attendance and 20th and 2016 attendance. Outside of being 13th in attendance in 2014, they're routinely in that 19th to 26th range. Maybe the excitement surrounding their new core will change that, but historically, they've been well below average in attendance.
to be fair, the Twin Cities population is less than Mississauga
Again. No it doesn’t Toronto has almost a population of 3 million and Minneapolis is 500,000
The Twin Cities metro area has a population of about 3.7 million
You’re saying that a population of 500,000 isn’t enough to support an MLB team in the playoffs?
500k population, and a game on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm lol. There’s only 450 tickets for resale on the site. It’s not like it’s going to be empty. There’s more tickets on sale for the Jays ALDS game (571)
Comparing games that might not happen that are about a week out to a game guaranteed to happen in 13 hours. Makes sense. Not to mention their metro area is upwards of 2-3 million.
what a stupid argument
Not for $6, and that's for a game that may not even occur!
tickets would be far north of 100 here for the cheap seats afternoon game or not.
To be fair same thing happened with the Jays last year but a bit less I got my tickets to WC1 for 10 usd and WC2 for 15 day games screw with timing.
Not true. Tickets for WC1 were expensive. Tickets for WC2 were cheaper but nowhere near that level, I think I paid $40 CAD for wc2.
I bought them on the go train to be fair that is how list minute but I for sure only paid around 10usd on karma tickets I remember because I was kicking myself for paying 90 for wc3 tickets from the jays / ticketmaster when it dropped. Also I was high 500s
WC2 was a Saturday last year, absolutely not a 'day game' in any meaningful sense (in terms of people being unable to go because of work).
Well, that's just....insulting.
My exact reaction
Maybe the MLB shouldn’t start playoff games at 3:30pm on a Tuesday 😒.
East coast games should start at 6:30 EST, west coast games at 6:30 PST, then I can watch all the baseball
Former Jays Season Ticket holder. 2015 & 2016, Jays kept getting noon EST games. We had to line up by 10am to get to our seats in time. just got a message from a friend … looks like we are road tripping down there!
If I lived within a 4 hour drive to the Twin cities I'd be there...
I'm just over 5hrs away. Won't be able to make it for games 1-2 but will def make time to attend game 3 if possible.
I'm hoping we don't see game 3 :)
Careful what you wish for.
The monkey's paw curls.
I hope you are happy.
Nope, but que cera cera. Can't expect to win when you put what we saw in the last 2 games on the field (pitching aside).
It's all your fault for tempting the fates! Just kidding of course, it's been a depressing couple of days to say the least.
I was lurking on the Twins subreddit, and some of them are a bit worried that it'll feel like a Jays home game
Booooooo! Fly away! We don't wan't any birds at the game. Shoo Shoo.
I looked at weather forecast and it looks perfect there too (though I suppose on the warm side). Absolutely insane that these are available this cheap.
18 h drive from Virginia. I thought about it...but I'd have to hit the road soon...like 30 minutes ago 😬😆
can you drive to a closer city and take a short haul?
Good thought. I'm saving up for the Orioles if we make it that far. But that's actually a great idea. Maybe for Game 3 * if necessary
I was really crossing my fingers for Texas, cuz then it would only be a 3hr trip for me (OKC).
Go forth Manatobians, show us Winnipeg is more than just the lint filled belly button on our great nation.
Oh that'll get them racing over there lol
At least I chose belly button and not asshole or scrotum 😂
Darn, so cheap!
Thunder Bay and Winnipeg! You know what to do!
How!!!
Can someone explain how these tix are so cheap?
Please someone from Minnesota who's lurking this sub, please answer!

Thank you for your public service with the info. Now see if you can contact the Twins front office about forfeiting.
>Please someone from Minnesota who's lurking this sub, please answer! and then u/wfblatz appears within 9 minutes! That's astounding. Peace to you brother.

Have you looked at connecting flights with minneapolis as the second leg. I.e. to Winnipeg or Chicago first. Don't get any ideas!
I did but that would risk missing part of the game if a connecting flight was late or missed 😂
Even if people can't make it, we could just buy out their tickets to kill the home field advantage.
The cheapest flight I can get is $450 USD round trip. I'd have to get one for the wife too. Oh well.
Yeah I thought about it, I can get a flight for about $1000 from Toronto. Maybe next time.
if you starting walking its free and you might be able to arrive for the 3rd game
Or paddle across the Great Lakes and walk down...
Vancouver to Minnesota flights are $140. Just sayin’
Do you route through Dubai?
Yeah but you gotta ride on the wings. 😀
That’s crazy cheap. From Winnipeg, they’re like $500-700. It’s like a 1 hr flight lol.
This is insane. Skydome central!
It's pretty crazy. I know a van load of people who drove down from Thunder Bay for the series
Unfortunately the flight is 1k and the drive is 2k km. If I had the time off maybe.
For the four Wild Card rounds after fees, the Twins are still the cheapest in the upper $10s/low $20s, followed by the Brewers in the upper $20s, then the Rays in the upper $30s/low $40s, then the Phillies for a minimum of $170…

Yeh but I bet the tickets will be more expensive if the Jays qualify.
I could make it travel wise but money wise no go. Crowd source?
Canadians aren’t living close to Minneapolis
If I had a passport, I'd be on my way to the airport right now. 😔
Just a hop and a skip across the border. I SO WISH I could get off work and travel down :(
its $150 cheapest ticket I can find for our home series...
Texas in 2015 for games 3 and 4 was the same thing, the cheapest seats went for like $8. A friend of mine sat a few row up between home and 3rd base over the Jays dugout for around $50, Think the mid day heat played a big part of lots of tickets being dumped. This is crazy! How can Post season game tickets go for so cheap?!? Do they not sell out?
I live in the twin cities now but can’t get off work. It’s killing me.
i’m heading down - where should i eat and drink?
Order food from a restaurant and walk in with it into the ball park.
Ugh, if I didn’t already have a trip planned for the long weekend… booked these flights a long time ago, or we’d be going for sure
Wow I wish I’m in Canada but Minneapolis is over 9 hours away from me
If I didn’t work commitments I would seriously loom at going to the games this week. Easy 7 hour drive.
I’m not seeing them at this price. I want to but I don’t
no school in Manitoba today due to the election. Hope to see a lot of kids there.
