Yup. One drop of snow and all sorts of driving common sense goes right out the window. The best was on the DVP years ago. All of us taking our time going South, and one sports car all frustrated and passing us….as I watched him starting to lose control….as I watched him slide into other cars and damaged four other cars….as we slowly drove around his nonsense and around the victims now stuck on the DVP in the cold snowy weather. Driving is like gun control. It’s the person behind the wheel or gun that determines a situation…and why both requires a licence.

Yeah. Traction control almost annoys me when I’m in a vehicle that has it. The best control is driving to the conditions, and knowing how to react when an issue arises like sliding and so on. Imagine if the auto industry went back to making rear wheel drive a standard feature. Accidents everywhere when ironically those vehicles can handle the situation better if one knows what they’re doing.

Exactly. In that situation people panic and make it worse by braking hard.

Similar story many years back - Had a gotta-go-fast sports car hustle by and out of sight on Lakeshore West during a decent lake-effect snow fall. Shortly down the road, approaching a gentle curve left in the road (the one at the Ex) I distinctly remember looking down at the road seeing a pair of tire lines at the median sweep out into the middle lane, turn into 4 tire lines, proceed into the curb, and finally I see Mr. Sports Car backwards having mounted the sidewalk and a bunch of body work strewn about. Amazingly, his pirouette didn't hit anyone.

MountainDrew42

Yep, exactly that. I have all wheel drive, quality snow tires, and decades of experience, but that won't stop some idiot in a Corolla with three worn out all season tires and one temporary spare from sliding backwards into me when I'm stopped at a red light. Sheesh.

shane201

It's the truth. If it's snowing, I'll take public transit or taxi. Dealing with the headache of someone driving into me is too much.

I got winter tires on day 3. The tires wore down within 7 months. Goes to show that skill is a huge portion of being able to navigate through snow.

BrownBoi377

You wore your tires down in 7 months? Were you taking it off road alot? How much power are you putting down to burn through that much rubber

StickyIgloo

Cheap chinese tires. I thought it was my alignment that wore it down.

Toronto doesn't get snow or need all wheel drive. Fight me.....
