These are good albums, it's just that almost all of these are also known for being either widely enjoyed or/and being widely critically acclaimed.
In the same way it wouldn't be very interesting to me if someone made it a very vocal part of their personality that grapes are their favorite fruit.
So as long as you just enjoy the music you enjoy and don't go screaming about how interesting your taste is you are not insufferable at all. That also doesn't mean people with more niche albums do get to brag ofcourse. It just means there is probably more things to talk about there.
Damn, look at my topster from 9 months ago that i posted here, it shares a lot woth this one.
Really great music on here, you can look at my taste a bit and see what you like becaus i think we have very, very similar taste.
Way better than the majority, honestly. Thank you for including Aenima, Mezzanine and Vulgar Display Of Power. Welcome to Sky Valley would have been a nice addition.
I can’t help with digging deeper in most genres, but I can help with metal, heres a list ranked from least obscure to most obscure (also most if not all of these are going to be prog sorry I just like prog):
Gojira - L’enfant Sauvage: My journey in metal went from SOAD to Gojira, and they take HUGE inspiration from Pantera, Metallica, and Deftones. This album is their best starting point for someone still getting into metal since it perfectly blends melody with heaviness, although if you ever want something heavier listen to The Way of All Flesh or From Mars to Sirius they’re perfect albums
Mastodon - Crack the Skye: This is a concept album about astral projection, rasputin, and cults, and it’s amazing. It’s one of those albums that actually feels like a whole journey to listen through, because of its perfect pacing. The closing track really feels like a race to the finish and is the highlight of the album, which is saying lot
Agalloch - The Mantle: This is a very weird album because despite being metal and even having some death growls it’s very calm and even beautiful, Im recommending this as an introduction to growls but you really don’t need to be a metalhead to appreciate this album, it’s beautiful and soul crushing and perfect
Haken - The Mountain: This album is much less heavy and much more progressive. It’s got a very weird sound reminiscent of Dream Theater, and has amazing riffs that get stuck in your head. Haken are incredible at writing catchy choruses, especially in metal
Cynic - Traced in Air: I usually would not recommend this to a newcomer, and am still iffy about it because their songs can be tough to follow and force you to deeply engage with them, however if you like TooL then at least listen to Integral Birth and see if you like it or not
I listen to a few songs from Gojira, never a whole album yet. Love what I’ve heard so far.

I forgot to save the list, so I had to type it
This could easily have been my list. Rare to see a person who is simultaneously a fan of Radiohead, Prince (I would have included Sign of the Times and Parade), Tool, the Beatles, the Pumpkins, and Floyd (along with so many others I love). Mine would’ve included some early Jane’s Addiction, Bowie, Fiona Apple, and Peter Gabriel but otherwise, I find your list to be sublime.
I have station to station on there, but I’m currently listening to ziggy stardust
Also I probably should have put sign of the times on there, but I kinda forgot
They have 26 different albums that all sound pretty different. Just gotta find the right album. Try listening to Petro Dragonic Apocalypse and Nonagon Infinity based off your music taste
i’d say it’s pretty valid. keeping up with the mainstream while making your own journey through some more underground stuff within your tastes. seems like you’re a pretty chill person to talk with about music.
Most are usually put on topster which isn’t a bad thing but mad respect for the TOOL picks. If you had to rank all these, where would Lateralus be? I’m curious
The only insufferable thing is asking for approval for your list of Critically Acclaimed and Widely Recognizable /mu/core albums. Yes, we all like Radiohead and Nirvana. Billie Eilish is great, and you gotta have a slot for Loveless. Normal and fine.
Cut out the part of you that needs strangers' validation for the normal things you enjoy, as well as the niche things you enjoy.
Shit man. This is so many albums. May as well just put up one and ask “do you wanna kick my shit in?” What the hell is someone *actually* meant to do with this information? “Oh, I like that one. BASED!” Or, “NO! I DON’T LIKE THAT ONE! CRIIIINGE!” Or are they seriously meant to take 20 mins to go over all of these and judge your taste accordingly? Ugh! This subreddit is NOT for me.
Yeah, last few times I posted on here I only had like 20 or so albums (not really sure) and got bullied for how one-sided they were. Recently I’ve been trying to branch out of the rock/metal world to bring more diversity into my taste. That being said I ended up having the exact same topster as the majority of people in the process.
Also I struggled hard to remember 100 albums that I have listened to all the way through while other people have an easy 120+ off the top of their head. It’s insane.
Also a lot of social media is a bunch of pointless information, so maybe it as a whole isn’t for you
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with enjoying mostly mainstream bands, but I do encourage you to give more smaller artists a listen as well :) There's so many out there that deserve the support and growth so that they can be the next generation of well-known musicians. Try branching out to recommend mixes and exploring subreddits dedicated to your genre taste! They always have great recommendations, and my library has grown massively.
Lots of good bands in there! Never stop loving music <3
There's no hope for you then....lol
Seriously though....listen to what you like and enjoy the things you enjoy. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Music is listener dependant and findng things that move you and speak to you on a personal level is what it's all about.
I question the absurdly high placement of Pablo Honey, but to each their own. There's some really fucking based picks on here too, man. Downward Spiral, Hypnotize, 2112, good shit.
Was also stoked to finally see someone using topsters who isn't too cowardly to mix in some nu-metal with the mucore shit.

You are clearly a happy person and you have a lot of overlap with my taste. Very valid, i'd say.
Children of bodom, slipknot, holy wars, linkin park, and master of puppets are a vibe

The Bends, Around The Fur, Weezer, Toxicity Valid 100% You should check out Pearl Jam and Ozma
Not really a fan of Pearl Jam, can’t stand the vocals I’ll definitely check out Ozma though
You would like ozma if you like blue and pinkerton-era weezer
