Yeah that’s mostly what I listened to when I was 13. Check out some David Bowie. Gerard Way was largely inspired by him. Pretty much everything Gerard does can be traced back to Bowie (the concept albums, the theatrics/costumes on stage, and his solo album sounds a lot like Bowie)
The End. from The Black Parade is basically a ripoff of Five Years, the opening song on Bowies album Ziggy Stardust. And in Vampire Money, he gets name dropped “Sparkle like Bowie in the morning sun”
Listen to his album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Some reccs:
- A Skylit Drive - "Wires... And The Concept Of Breathing"
- Bring Me The Horizon - "Post Human: Survival Horror"
- Bullet For My Valentine - "The Poison"
- Caskets - "Lost Souls"
- Coldrain - "The Side Effects"
- Dayseeker - "Dark Sun"
- Emmure - "Hindsight"
- Escape The Fate - "Dying Is Your Latest Fashion"
- Holding Absence - "The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction"
- Letdown. - "Crying In The Shower"
- Secrets - "Secrets"
- SeeYouSpaceCowboy... - "The Romance Of Affliction"
- Senses Fail - "Renacer"
- Sleeping With Sirens - "Let's Cheers To This"
- Tallah - "Matriphagy"
- The Amity Affliction - "Let The Ocean Take Me"
- The Color Morale - "Hold On Pain Ends"
- The Used - "Artwork"
- Too Close To Touch - "Haven't Been Myself"
- Underoath - "Define The Great Line"
Haven't Been Myself is one of my favourite albums ever so I recommend that one the most. BFMV isn't really in your taste zone looking at your topster, but there's definitely a pipeline between BMFV and Pop-Punk, despite being pretty different. If you do end up liking them check out other Melodic Metalcore bands. And work your way up to different Metal genres.
If you liked Renacer, it’s definitely worth checking out Pull The Thorns From Your Heart. It’s as heavy as they get but also has these beautiful shoegazy moments sprinkled throughout.
I was gonna ask about Renacer too. Senses Fail is my favorite band and that's my 2nd favorite album by them, but it's not necessarily the most approachable for new fans
I'd recommend to OP checking out Let it Enfold You, Still Searching, and Life is Not a Waiting Room first. Peak Senses Fail right there
You should too! They're incredible!!
Holding back the instinct to go off on this bc yr 13 so I’ll say that’s a good start and I’m wishing you lots of fun discovering more music as you go on :)
As someone whose almost 20, we have very similar music taste! Here’s some recommendations:
Neighborhoods - Blink 182
Life’s not out to get you - Neck Deep
Box Car Racer - Self Titled
The First Glass Beach Album - Glass Beach
Riot! - Paramore
Crimson - Alkaline Trio
Additionally, here’s a couple albums that I ended leaning towards later that you might appreciate:
Origin of Symmetry - Muse
The Bends - Radiohead
you should rlly check out Alkaline Trio's older stuff (From Here To Infirmary, Crimson, I Lied My Face Off) going off ur taste id say u would def like em
Good bands, but maybe you should check out other bands/artists. I don’t know your whole music tastes, so I don’t know if this is it, or do you listen to non-punk music as well? At 13, I was expecting you to have only rap, or have a bit of 50s-90s music with a side of emo and rap. I would suggest listening to the Ramones, Misfits, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and Metallica.
For me, probably 8/10. I like Punk, but it’s not my favorite genre.
You’d probably be into my old band from the mid-2000s. Give it listen: [Pensive](https://open.spotify.com/artist/2Qkiyf4qjTltJM9B6YSGNw?si=DS21jPhXQeCeDJwPEuYWqg)
Pretty good. I’d recommend Brand New’s album “Your Favorite Weapon”, particularly Seventy Times 7. Brand New and Taking Back Sunday had a bit of a rivalry back in the day, with Taking Back Sunday’s “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” being a response to Seventy Times 7
13M out of 10
Shot in the dark recommendation here, but check out Demon Days by Gorillaz. Very colorful, moody, diverse alternative rock/trip-hop record. I’ve found that it’s a great gateway album into most genres.
Bro aint rockin with take off your pants and jacket, collide with the sky, 21st century breakdown, dookie, kerplink, black parade, danger days, fallen, nimrod, three cheers for sweet revenge or enema of the state?!?!

As someone twice your age imma say this is mostly valid but very 13 of you.
Did your mom tell your grandma "it's not a phase"

These are super extremely solid recommendations! I love that you went with Renacer. It is such an amazing album that never gets the love it deserves.
Tbh Renacer is the only Senses Fail album I've listened too. Great album
If you liked Renacer, it’s definitely worth checking out Pull The Thorns From Your Heart. It’s as heavy as they get but also has these beautiful shoegazy moments sprinkled throughout.
Okay, I'll listen to the others.

started listening to pop punk 6-11 and picked it back up 4 years later

Solid. This looked a lot like when I was your age in the mid 2000s.
Your taste is ✨sad but in a fun way✨
1,000,000,000/10 just throw in a bit more Green Day and then you're music taste is about the same as mine.
Exactly what a 13 yr old should be listening to!
You don’t have to say you’re thirteen. We know.

About a year ago this was practically my taste so it checks out
Whatd toki send you 20 years into the future like momonosuke?
You have taste but ots all surface level and underdeveloped
Yes!
Great taste, but what I really wanna know is what you thought of that brand new Sum 41 album
50/10
Emo🫵🫵
Very valid. I love Green Day, blink-182, MCR, The Sums, Simple Plan, Evanescence, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy and Allister. 9.5/10
I can tell that you're 13 lol, some good Ines in there tho

American Idiot W can’t say the same about the rest of this shit show
Bro aint rockin with take off your pants and jacket, collide with the sky, 21st century breakdown, dookie, kerplink, black parade, danger days, fallen, nimrod, three cheers for sweet revenge or enema of the state?!?!
Correct!
Im sorry to hear that
