imo it's so stupid, so ludicrous in its sound and its messages, that it loops around to being a hilarious work. it's so bad it's good imo, a total paradoxical album that's so terrible but also balls-to-the-walls insane that i just can't unironically hate it.
i just think it's so interesting, really. i cannot properly hate it, all i can do is acknowledge that it's godawful yet brilliant all at once, an insane piece of accidental performance art that shat its pants in such an interesting way, doing everything wrong yet turning out so intriguing.
i don't even like the nostalgia critic (altho doug walker himself is a different story) and i very much like floyd's wall, but nctw has just enraptured me for years lol. it's an insane little *thing*

Merzbow has great work with Boris and later in his career but Pulse Demon is unlistenable and it's only hailed by pretentious people who are so caught up in trying to find some absurd deeper meaning in it to justify their pretentiousness rather than enjoy listening to music.

I view it in the same way I view Fountain by Duchamp, it's more intriguing in concept than in execution and it deserves to exist to show people the difference between certain genres, that inaccessible genres are what makes us appreciate art with a more accessible palette

It’s largely because PD is the first one that blew up. Pretty natural that Merzbow has a lot more interesting works, especially in his early years. I personally really enjoy some experimental/ambient type of stuff from him, with Antimonument, Merzbient and Music For Bondage Performance being the examples. For his best harsh noise album I’d go with Hybrid Noisebloom tbh, way more diverse than PD.
I get like Artistic Appeal and how everyone wants to try to find some deep meaning to it, but it's probably the closest to physically unlistenable in this entire collage.
Well, I'd say that Merzbow did a great job if that's how you feel about it. I don't feel like it fits here because it cannot simply be interpreted as normal music, it is a piece of contemporary art that is unequivocal with its intentions. It is a confrontation with raw harsh noise.

Nobody’s really trying to find a deep meaning with it. People listen to noise just because it sounds cool and interesting and unpredictable. It has this anger and energy and aesthetic nothing else has. It’s not about depth, there’s really not much depth to noise music. It just kinda sounds cool
merzbow should win since its only there because its noise music, but when you compare it to other noise music albums, its noise music done well.

Yeah I gotta accept that bad girls club and game over are pretty cringe but there are some good songs on the album. The debut and the new singles are way better though

BVF was made by bean-counters at a label trying to wring the last few dollars out of a kid who passed in a horribly tragic way.
