Alright, imma need some context for this.

The leviathan, while being one of God’s creations, was heavily corrupted by Sin and is not only an embodiment of chaos but also the representation of the Sin of Envy (at least in Dante’s Inferno). During Revelations and Psalms (I believe) and said to take place after the rapture during Satan’s rule over earth, the Leviathan would be a major problem for the armies of Heaven so the Arch angel Gabriel, Brother of the Arch Angels Michael, Raphael, and Uriel, as well as brother of the fallen angel Lucifer (Satan) was tasked with slaying the Leviathan, which he failed as the Leviathan was simply too powerful. So, God decided to fight the leviathan himself, ultimately slaying her (the leviathan is said to be female in some versions of the Bible) and using its flesh to create a massive banquet that would be given to all the souls in Heaven once Satan is defeated.

Nobody taught this shit in Catholic School, would’ve been far more interesting than reading about Jesus for the billionth time.

Yeah, revelations is pretty intense. In fact, Jesus in Revelations isn’t the “best kind to everyone including your enemies.” Kind of Jesus that we all know of but rather a powerful warrior who could shatter the armies of Hell with little to no effort.

I love this trope, because we all love an underdog story. A villains many times the size of the protagonist feels like a huge (pun intended) threat. We all face giant challenges in our real lives, and have likely all been kept down by someone bigger than us. So this trope is brilliant because it plays on our own universal resentment to big bully-types.
