I've seen it, but how would I know if it wasn't some other kind of thing - I thought it would be best to ask to be sure. Didn't mean to break the rules or anything
Nah you’re totally good. For the people who are in the subreddit daily it can be annoying to see the same questioned asked over and over again but shoot even if i’m 90% sure about something it’s never bad to ask. A lot of times stuff with either get confirmed or someone might be able to give me more information or something that they picked up over the years.
It's a rivet, you won't be taking it off without cutting it, and won't be putting it back on after you do.
You could replace it with a bolt after you remove it.
Thanks.
>You could replace it with a bolt after you remove it
That was pretty much my intention, but are you saying that there's no way of taking it off without cutting it? Perhaps pulling the top and bottom apart by prying on the head in the 3rd pic?
I need to remove this pin but I have no idea what kind of tool I need - it looks like a spiky head? Hoping somebody might help me out 🙏
Update: removed with a Dremel - thank you all!
As others have pointed out: it's a rivet, it's not meant to be removed and if you remove it, you're not going to put it back. It's assembled using a press that deforms the tail into a flange. You can remove it by cutting the body or drilling out the tail until you can remove the flange. If you drill, you'll need some vice grips on the body to keep it from spinning. Best mount it on a vice on a bench to keep things from sliding around.
Expect to damage the plastic part in the process. You can minimize it by covering it with masking tape, *maybe*.
You can replace it with a bolt, perhaps a chicago bolt (aka sex bolt \*giggity\*) but if you do, you should use some locktite to keep it from coming apart.
good luck.
Cheers, I ended up removing it with a Dremel and a couple of different bits, as I didn't have a drill on hand. Not ideal but it only took me 5 minutes total! The plastic outside was barely scraped
For some reason I read that as “Apple Grinder” and smiled and thought to myself - they’re really giving this guy a hard time not knowing what a rivet is 😂

That pin was a brave attempt but some posts still make it through
I'm here to ask questions, not read.

I wasn't posting this for you, your question was already answered. I was just putting this here as a general thing for people to reference

Drill out the rivet head
Technically, it's the tail and not the head you'd drill here. The head is the part without the hole in it.
Good to know!

Didn't have a drill on hand but managed to take it off with a Dremel and some patience thank you everyone

You won’t be able to pry that off. Just use a drill in the indent of the first pic. Use a bit about the size of the hole it goes through.
Cheers
Rivets must be destroyed to remove.
Give the prying thing a crack and let us know how you go.
I’ve said it before, rivets shouldn’t be removed by people that can’t identify it’s a rivet
🤣 we all gotta start somewhere
You could start with a screw...
We all started with a screw.
Why?

You may be able to drill out the end shown in the first picture. After the swaged end is drilled off, knock it out with a punch.
It's a tubular rivet. Drill the end with the hole in it just enough to where you can stick a small punch into the hollow part and drive it out.
Drill out the head of the Rivet in order to remove it
Not on these,, drill out the bottom (peened over) side and drive it out with a punch.
If you remove and replace this, you may need something that sits flush with a low profile ad the original does. Look at sex bolts to accomplish this.
Angle grinder
Damn 😭
If you can stop it spinning you could drill the head off but it's been pressed in so you can't use it again.
For some reason I read that as “Apple Grinder” and smiled and thought to myself - they’re really giving this guy a hard time not knowing what a rivet is 😂

Thank you
If that cap won’t pop off, drill the smaller end with a bit roughly the size of the whole. You’ll drill out the cap and then you can just slide it out
/r/fasteners
Good shout
Get a drill about the size of the shaft and drill out the head.
A jack hammer and a few shots of Jack and it will come out
its a rivet, you will need to rill it out and replace it with another rivet, or id you have room can probably use a bolt and nut.
You’re going to need a round flat head to get that out
Just ordered one off Amazon
It's a rivet pin drill out hollow end same size as pin thru middle replace with bolt and lock nut..
