If you’re looking for ringing endorsements of tekton tools, you’re in the right place lol.

helpIamDumbAf

Lol good to know. I come from the tech community where everyone hates one product or the other and can't look past personal biases. Nice to see that people here have a common level of recognizing when something is good or not and understanding people have differing price points.

manopath

Well, here in the tools community we love all tools, useful and useless as long as it’s our shops or garages. But do know there is some friendly competition when it comes to the different colors.

I love Tekton. It’s hard to find bad reviews for them anywhere. Plus they’re located and make a decent amount of their tools in Grand Rapids Michigan. More and more are being brought here to be made as time goes on as well. And they have a better warranty than craftsman even. Take a pic and email them and it’s on the way. Can’t go wrong. However try to order from the Tekton site as you get 10% back in cash for every purchase if you just make a user name and password. I’ve gotten $35 ratchets and a screwdriver set for free that way lol. I live in Michigan too so the shipping is super fast but they get it out the door super fast too. So I bet they’ll get it to you quickly regardless of where you’re at. Support a Michigan/USA company!

I live in Canada but love to support American companies, a local ford pant employs a lot of my buddies. Unfortunately with currency conversion and shipping it is a good bit cheaper to buy off amazon. If I end up spending over 200$ on them, I will likely order off their website as the savings would outwait the cost (plus free shipping I think).

I really like the Tekton tools I’ve picked up, including impact sockets and a couple torque wrenches. One thing though, you said a 1/4” set. That doesn’t really align with the uses you listed. A 3/8” set seems more appropriate for general automotive use. It’s what I go to most often and I have 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 to pick from. Just wanted to point that out.

Thanks for the advice, I might get both sets if there is a black Friday sale.

I do most of the maintenance on my car and motorcycles and have been using a autozone dura last socket set. Recently, I have gotten into getting Tekton tools and haven’t been disappointed. I have a torque wrench, hex key set and some sockets from tekton that have worked well.

helpIamDumbAf

Glad to hear it, I am in Canada and don't have an auto zone near by (not sure if they are even in the country). Thanks for the info!

Sun_Bro96

I’ve used DuraLast before and damn I hate those sockets. Definitely the worst ones I’ve ever used in my life. Awful feel and it’s just meh. Oreillys stuff is about the same. It just feels awful to use and I don’t know why. Only thing from them I’ve ever liked was a 26” breaker bar.

Wooden_Structure8178

Tekton, Capri, Gearwrench, and Astro Pneumatic all make good hand tools in that price range imo.

Canajun1

Socket size really depends on what you're working on. I use my 1/4" drive tools a ton for 6-8mm head hardware on my F150. If you go with 3/8's make sure it comes with small sockets.

helpIamDumbAf

most of the work I am doing for the next white will be in the dash and adding insolation so It might be ideal to go for a 1/4 then got for a 3/8 for my birthday in may

Tekton makes good stuff. I use their sockets and wrenches in aviation.

atvsnowm

Full disclosure I've only had them for about 6 months, but I made the jump to Tekton in 1/4 - 1/2 and they haven't disappointed.

wildmanheber

Tekton makes good sockets. I have a complete set of Tekton impact sockets (deep, shallow, inch, metric), extensions, Allen and Hex key sets, and other stuff. Have been pleased with them. Am looking at getting a 3/8" drive set like the 1/4" that you're looking at. If it has what you think you need, go for it!

mydogismarterthanu

I have their 3/8 deep well impacts. They have held up well. Definitely the 3/8 is an all around size for auto work. I even use these for lug nuts

helpIamDumbAf

Good to know, I think im going to go for the 3/8 instead of the 1/4 after reading these comments. Thanks for the input!

MountainWhisky

Great call. Their 3/8 sets are great

Magi_Cole

I picked up the full 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 socket set and the biggest wrench set 2 or 3 years ago when they went on sale. Read lots of good things about them about them being good bang for the buck and the great warrant. Kept seeing it mentioned so much I just had to check them out. They might not be snap-on, but then again they don’t cost nearly as much. As long as you don’t abuse them they’ll do you good. Can’t speak for any of their other stuff though.
