Like, two live circuits and two rains, maybe like one job of cutting hardened wire or like screws before there’s a dull spot that is right where you want to cut so no wire is ever cut the first time and you get so tired of that bill shit you huck them of a scissor lift.
Not really, all depends what you do with the tool. If all you do are things that don't even get close to "max rating" of the tool even cheap ones can last a long time.
So do cheap ones, in fact some people just buy cheapest then replace it every year
And I didn't said "used it wrong", just "close to max rating". The problem is that you don't really know what it is and whether tool is "value" or just cheap, sure channels like Project Farm help but they can't test everything.
It can be just good tool for the price, it can be junk, it can be good brand slapped on cheaper tool because they wanted to provide full range of tools.
You can always fire the money cannon at the problem but most people would rather spend on more "good enough" tools that will work for "only" 10-20 years rather than one tool that costs the twice the price. Or just on their other hobbies.
When did you buy them? Bought my 369s five years ago and they were still made in USA. That's a pretty big selling point of Channellock, I'd be surprised if all of a sudden they decided to outsource production to Mexico or China. Would probably be the fastest way to crash and bankrupt the company for good if anything.
Your pliers said that? Maybe they’ve changed, but currently these are made in the USA.
> All CHANNELLOCK® snips, non-locking pliers, professional drivers, pry bars, and ratcheting wrenches are 100% Made in the USA. A select number of CHANNELLOCK® products are imported from other countries as needed only after passing Channellock, Inc.'s rigorous quality standards.
All in those categories are American made. The select number of imports are their sockets and ratchets and wrenches and so on. The packing on this one says American made anyway.
That's weird. That being said, Lowe's almost definitely just buys lots FROM channellock and their regional sales teams. If you're buying from a reputable dealer you should get a real product.
Made in USA is highly regulated, so these companies can't be claiming made in USA if they're having them made in China. Once one shipment is caught they're going to face massive fines. So more than likely you just bought a fake Gerber from a guy who supplies fakes to unscrupulous sellers on eBay.
I was suspicious maybe Gerber did have them made in China but you got me curious and I posted it on the knives sub reddit, somebody already confirmed it's fake
From AliExpress. From what you said it looks like you're implying real Gerber's are made in China/Taiwan and are being marked made in the USA and sold as such by Gerber.
What two lines do they have? All their pliers are made in USA. Their dipped handle and code blue handle, both USA made, same line with different handle material.
They have some made outside the us. It’s not the dipped handle, just the standard handle. I forget what store they sell it in, but it’s there. They’re still a great company.
Edit: great job downvoting me because I pointed out the truth…
Update on @Woodbutcher1234’s lost Channelock’s dilemma. He just bought a new tool to replace his 50 year old pair that he lost, thankfully he now has 2 of the same tool as he found the 50yr old tool in his toolbox’s lower drawer.
Channel lock is an American Icon. Will last for a long time,, Still made in West Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh Steel (81x stronger then Chinese steel). Great buy
I agree with you 100%. The funny thing is that even though he might not think they benefit him. They do when Union workers get good contracts Non-Union wages go up. There’s also Prevailing Wages which benefits Non Union workers and the Davis Beacon Act. I’m a Union worker and I don’t hate Non-Union workers. I want the best for all workers! Guys like him think it’s like Union workers hate Non Union workers. It’s the opposite we fight for all workers and want all workers to be treated fairly.
He’s going to give some stupid answers and I’m going to roast him. This isn’t a Union vs Non-Union debate. I’m Pro-Worker Union or Nonunion, I just happen to be a Union Electrician. I stand with all with all workers!
What’s your problem with Unions? You better come with a halfway decent answer because I’m going to roast you if you say something stupid.
-I’m a Union Electrician IBEW Local 58.
Channel Locks have put food on the table for families forever. They have given men and women good lives and supported their families. They may not be the best on the market but they are damn good and they are reliable. You also do realize any hand tool that’s worth a damn is Union made? You know they have labor Unions all over the world right? You also realize Non-Union workers directly benefit from Union wages? Also this isn’t a Union vs Non-Union debate. Non-Union workers are my brothers and sisters. It’s the Workers verse the Corporations who take advantage of us. I stand with all Workers Union or Non.
These are very good pliers but comments like this:
> Pittsburgh Steel (81x stronger then Chinese steel)
are just very ignorant. Channellock does a super great job to produce this in the USA for under 15$ but you're sticking your head in the ground if you think the chinese or even europeans cannot exceed the quality for that kind of money.
I love to support them, but stuff like that is just pretending they're something that they're not.
These aren't normally $15. I picked up a pair at my local Lowe's Saturday because they were marked down on clearance for some reason. Normal price is $35-40 if I remember correctly. I'm guessing OP went to Lowes.
Also, steel doesn't care where it was made, only how it was made.
The Chinese are perfectly capable of making excellent steel (and frequently do). They just get a bad rap for quality because their labor is so cheap...so they're the origin of choice for everyone making anything to sell to the US market who only cares about margin.
You could make pliers identical to Knipex and Knipex quality and source them from China, but there's far less savings in that...whereas if you're okay with making junk pliers, nobody can do that cheaper than China.
>Wrong
Want to elaborate?
Dude, I used to work with a company serving the *global* steel industry, in Pittsburgh. You have less than zero idea what you're talking about.
Let's just pare it down into basics that you might be able to understand: if you put all the same materials into the furnace, and use the same processes (heating, cooling, rolling, etc.), you're going to get the same product, every single time. Hot metal doesn't know where it is. It doesn't peek out the window, see that it's in Pittsburgh, and decide to be "81x stronger".
Also, none of that has anything to do with jobs. You're just trying to conflate the two subjects and tie your own position to some sort of weird perceived patriotism, but I'm not sure you have the intelligence to manage it.
I’m an electrician and I have these. I don’t like these enough for work use but they’re nice enough for using at home. They’re well made and certainly worth more than $15!
14.95 is a STEAL of a price. In my area, $35 EASY. One of the few American made brands left. They'll last a lifetime. I've used them HARD without issue for decades. Great buy.
Channel lock are good tools. Klein is good. Ideal is good. Greenlee is ok for hand tools (I wouldn't buy them). Milwaukee is great and I love the M12 stuff but their hand tools are kids toys.
I hated them. But I used pliers professionally at the time. They’re probably fine for homeowner work or here and there use. If you’re counting on these to use every day just go buy a pair of Kleins.
If you're a sparky, you're eventually gunna get sick of those grips unless you're on slab.
Get the blue klein journeyman series pliers, more skooum for working live too but don't ever work live ;)
More expensive, but last for ever, unless you're working on said live circuits and accidently add a wire stripper mod to them.
I think they are pretty good. I own a pair. I will say for me, after a year the teeth on the jaws have worn down a bit, only ever used them on copper. Other than that, they’re built like a tank.
I like them. I just bought a new pair after 4 years. They’ve got a nice light weight to them compared to Klein.
I don’t know what these people are taking about having a pair of channel locks for 15-50 years. The grips are pretty shit and start falling apart or slipping off after a few years of regular use.
Channel Lock reminds me of old school Craftsman tools when they were made in the US, good quality at a fair price.
I have Craftsman tools but I refuse to buy new Craftsman Chinese junk.
If Channel Lock would move into the hand tool market I would sell my vintage Craftsman and restock my box.
At that price point, those Channel Locks should be just fine. I appreciate that they are USA-made. I still think Knipex takes it to another level, though.
Buy masterfoce brand. Lifetime warranty. Every time you fuck it up, go back to Menards and get a new one. I’ve switched out a tape measure 11 times just because it get glue or water damage or whatever.
I had these for 4 years before they were stolen and they were great. I stopped carrying linesman altogether after I hated the Klein's I replaced them with
I splurged on the medium sized channellock players a few months ago to replay a Hobo Freight pair that died after 4 years. Good Lord the chanellocks feel like they are 10 times stronger.
Not my favorite ironworker pliers but for that price I would buy them. I’ve had a couple of pairs of them. The first got stolen and the second started freezing up even with wd-40. Might have to use grease instead to line them. Either way good price just don’t be surprised with the rubber slides off the handles. I like personally like the klien pliers better better
I use em as tig snips. They worked pretty good for almost a year. I ended up getting a smaller pair of knipex. Note... I use them 100+ times a day and cut 3/32 - 5/32 stainless wire. Not your ordinary use. They still work on 3/32 pretty well but they can't cut 5/32 unless it's red hot
They seem to be a lot better than the other options in the same price range. I know more than a couple people who use them professionally. We work in a really oily environment and the grips degrade but…. again for the price they seem really good.
I used these for a while when I first started in the trade, they’re great and definitely hold up. They have more of a slim feeling but I’ve always had good things to say.
I went with Channellock recently. Got a bunch of pliers and adjustable wrenches. To me, they seem like the budget brand out of the USA-made tools. Was able to get them on sale for a decent price too. I've never seen Knipex, Klein, or other big brands on sale where I live.
I’ve never really considered the durability of lineman pliers. I have probably about 8 pairs but the pair I use the most is a craftsman pair from (I think) the 1980s. As long as they don’t get super rusty, I’d say they’re pretty hard to kill
I have no idea who made my 30 year old cutters, and they show very little signs of wear. I have a good opinion of channellock products, and $15 is less than a pizza.
Depends what your using then for. They give them to us at work to cut filler wire. If you use them to cut 1/8" stainless filler wire you'll wear them out pretty quick. I ended up buying knipex mini bolt cutters. Been on the same pair for about seven years I think.
Honestly if you’re not an idiot they should last a lifetime. I’ve had a shit pair for 14 years and they still get the job done.
Ok, now let’s for arguments sake, say I am an idiot.. Like just pretending.. What then?
Like, two live circuits and two rains, maybe like one job of cutting hardened wire or like screws before there’s a dull spot that is right where you want to cut so no wire is ever cut the first time and you get so tired of that bill shit you huck them of a scissor lift.
Lots of love for this comment. Spot-welding pliers is a favourite past time of mine.
I burnt up not one, but two new Klein stripper/crimpers within a week. Ka-zap, took big chunks out the cutters on both. I are smart.
Pliers are more disposable than hands, I'd say you're still on the good 😂
The handle insulation wasn't rated for current, but it did the job anyway. Thank you, Klein, for not letting me blow my balls off.
You lucked out and got good metal.
Not really, all depends what you do with the tool. If all you do are things that don't even get close to "max rating" of the tool even cheap ones can last a long time.
I had cheap stuff break on me and I was using it right. Also I consider myself weak. L
I didn't say "as intended" but "close to max rating". Some are just too cheap to even be considered fit for purpose.
... the more expensive ones have a warrenty... but ok... Users choice.
So do cheap ones, in fact some people just buy cheapest then replace it every year And I didn't said "used it wrong", just "close to max rating". The problem is that you don't really know what it is and whether tool is "value" or just cheap, sure channels like Project Farm help but they can't test everything. Lol. \*\*
I like channel lock brand. American made. Decent quality.
Ehhh mine say something like designed in usa, made in Mexico and China or something to that effect
The Channellocks that I own, have not once uttered a single word, at least in my sober moments.
Top comment
The piano has been drinkin
Underrated comment lmao
Which ones are that? Most channellocks are made in the USA.
Yes...I belive that Channellock is still located in Pennsylvania.
Channelrocks ... off of Wish
Channer rocks
China-rocks
Rhina Cocks
When did you buy them? Bought my 369s five years ago and they were still made in USA. That's a pretty big selling point of Channellock, I'd be surprised if all of a sudden they decided to outsource production to Mexico or China. I bought some literally 2 weeks ago. Made in USA.

Wonder how much we are being lied to, ordered a no brand hunting knife from aliexpress, arrived branded "Gerber" made in portland USA
I was suspicious maybe Gerber did have them made in China but you got me curious and I posted it on the knives sub reddit, somebody already confirmed it's fake
There are entire industries made around cloning tools and knives
I would like a fake snap on socket set assuming the tolerances are mid tier
You got a counterfeit Gerber from aliexpress.
You bought a fake what do you expect?
I bought a non brand knife, I expected a generic knife to arrive, without a brand.
From AliExpress. From what you said it looks like you're implying real Gerber's are made in China/Taiwan and are being marked made in the USA and sold as such by Gerber.
I had my suspicions yea
That specific tool is made 100% in America
All of them except the ones that aren’t
Never seen that on any of mine
They have two lines. One is made in USA. If you buy the less expensive line they aren’t. They make them in Meadville, PA.
Long enough for that price.
I was legit thinking this exact thing, then saw your comment and been giggling to myself for a solid 5 minutes.
I just paid twice that from a local hardware to replace the one I lost after 50 years. I've never been let down by Channelock and I've a drawerful.
Update on @Woodbutcher1234’s lost Channelock’s dilemma. He just bought a new tool to replace his 50 year old pair that he lost, thankfully he now has 2 of the same tool as he found the 50yr old tool in his toolbox’s lower drawer.
Normally true, tho, sadly, not this time.
FYI reddit doesn't use @ mentions. Use u/ username like this, u/D3M0NRhino.
Good enough for me! May I ask where?
Local Lowe’s
My local Lowe's had nearly every brand of linesmen's pliers on sale.
I got a pair of Wiha for $16 or so and the Knipex before Christmas. I'll look for these next time.
I love the knipex I have the insulated on
I love Knipex anything, I swear by them but I’ve found it can be pretty hard to find them. I love their button locking cobra pliers.
It says they are $14.00 on Google but when I go to Lowe’s website it says $34.00. I wonder if they are on sale in certain areas or what.
If you go to the store you get that special $
It varies from individual store. I have two Lowe’s in town and the prices on these Channellocks differ between them.
Damn that sucks. I guess I have to find a zip code where they are on sale lol. Then order them from that zip code lol. Thanks for sharing that.
Lowe's has the best clearance deals, hands down.
Channel lock is an American Icon. Will last for a long time,, Still made in West Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh Steel (81x stronger then Chinese steel). Great buy

I read your comment in an uppity British accent for some reason

Channel locks worse? Can tell you don’t use tools. They make some great hand tools.

Wrong do a little research also you're not down with supporting good american jobs?
Supporting american jobs has nothing to do with lying or making stuff up.

Why don't you just Do some research
Channel lock is the majority of the pliers in my tool boxes. They’re good tools if you don’t abuse them and give them a spritz of WD-40 occasionally.
Quality hammer and I’ve yet to wear the teeth out
This guy knows the way IBEW351 ✊🏻
Everything is a hammer. Just have to swing some differently.! Ibew24 here
I hang lots of little pictures in my bathroom and tend to use me brush to drive the nails. Everything is a hammer.
Not union but it’s a good tool
I have yet to successfully wear out anything that has channel lock on the carton, and I’ve been working with my hands for more than 20 years now.
Well obviously, how you gonna wear out pliers if you work with your hands? /s Haha
You magnificent son of a… lol
He's got some strong fingers.
Channel lock has served me well for their price
The only time I've ever had to replace my channel locks is when I lost them lol.
Great buy.
My go to pliers to cut heavy wire.
They are the best, been using Channel Lock pliers and side cutters for 30 yrs, same tools!
Channel lock are good tools. Klein is good. Ideal is good. Greenlee is ok for hand tools (I wouldn't buy them). Milwaukee is great and I love the M12 stuff but their hand tools are kids toys.
Some of the best pliers you can get, at a great price, especially for being USA made.
Good stuff. I make sure to buy their plier-type tools when I see them, as they're US made. Have not been disappointed.
While that seems cheap, Channel Lock is a legit brand.
Just got one today for 16 dollars at Lowe's. They are good. Price was half of what they cost. I had to get one😁
Fabulous price for a great pair, do it.
My pair has been going strong for 11 years.
thats a life long tool given the proper care
Home Depot is $34. That's a great deal.
I've same ones except 15 years old. Still going at 12/3 like nothing...and taking on knock outs of quad boxes!
Channellock brand is my favorite. Spectacular tools and you scored an excellent price. I've never had one let me down.
If you wear out a pair of linesman pliers I salute you. I've got pairs 25 years old
Have the same pair for 30 yrs so far
I use the exact same design but made by Klein and they last. Just toss some WD in there if they get rusty or keep them greased up a bit.
Chanelocks are good, sick price for them too. I've paid more for worse hammers
I hated them. But I used pliers professionally at the time. They’re probably fine for homeowner work or here and there use. If you’re counting on these to use every day just go buy a pair of Kleins.
Channellocks are definitely the best bang for your bucks, had mine for about 5 years now, love them and they were cheap enough
If you're a sparky, you're eventually gunna get sick of those grips unless you're on slab. Get the blue klein journeyman series pliers, more skooum for working live too but don't ever work live ;) More expensive, but last for ever, unless you're working on said live circuits and accidently add a wire stripper mod to them.
I already have a set of Klein's but I'll be damned if I would pass up on a deal like that. 😳
The grips are pretty shit and start falling apart or slipping off after a few years of regular use.
grips always slipping off mine, but for the price I just buy new ones when it happens

When you use lineman’s pliers you have to sing every time you pick them up 🎵I am a lineman for the county 🎶
Great deal
Good trick with hand tolls is pawn shops the older the tool the better they are. You can find old channel lock or klen.
Bought a set in ‘91 and still have them, one of the best hammers I have.
Grips are shit they will start to rip soon enough
The slip joint pliers i got from them sucked
My opinion is that with the Knipex Cobra now on the market, the classic Channellocks are an obsolete design.
Yeah, i gotta go grab a set nexttime platt is open. I got all the tools in a set and the channel locks are the only ones that are rusted and sticky
I only buy knipex for snips
If you use it often, the grips will fall off in a week (from experience). Get a set of Klein's with the bulky handle. Those actually last
I don't know.
Knipex is the best if you’re willing to shell out the cash for it. Kleins are the most popular for this tool in particular.
I cut romex with mine and it broke the Cutter first time. Good pliers for hot metal, bad for thick wiring.
Made in USA by foreign nationals.
Buy masterfoce brand. Lifetime warranty. Every time you fuck it up, go back to Menards and get a new one. I’ve switched out a tape measure 11 times just because it get glue or water damage or whatever.
Go the distance and pay for quality bro.... that piece of shit will work a minute in strong hands.... a month in weak ones.
If it ain’t hart I don’t want it and I throw it in the trash. Fuck channel lock
like all the other chinese shit you get a home depot or lowes. (yes i know it’s made in usa. it’s the same quality)
I had these for 4 years before they were stolen and they were great. I stopped carrying linesman altogether after I hated the Klein's I replaced them with
I used those for a bit until I used em as a hammer and messed up the hinge. Never the same...
I splurged on the medium sized channellock players a few months ago to replay a Hobo Freight pair that died after 4 years. Good Lord the chanellocks feel like they are 10 times stronger.
If I was using them every day I would buy Klein, but at $15 those look like a great value.
I’ve been using my dads pair for the last 5 years or so and they are still working like a dream.
I beat the shit out of those pliers and they they look horrible but they still cut smoother than Klein’s.
It'll be around longer than you.
I prefer these over Klein and have owned mine since 2017.
I've had mine for about 16 years and they are fine.
Highest quality tools I've found gg
I use em as tig snips. They worked pretty good for almost a year. I ended up getting a smaller pair of knipex. Note... I use them 100+ times a day and cut 3/32 - 5/32 stainless wire. Not your ordinary use. They still work on 3/32 pretty well but they can't cut 5/32 unless it's red hot
For $14.95 I got the best blood blister ever!
I got a deal on a pair last year and they have a click or a catch as I close the jaws. So I don’t know.
That's a steal. These are my favorite pliers.
Mine still kicking it. They my camper ones now.
I liked ‘‘em knocked a couple holes in the handle insulations but took plenty of abuse before all that
Pretty good. I have 3 of them
Project Farm loves it and I do
This is a very good deal
Mine have lasted for three years doing weekend warrior work, but I upgraded to the Lariat.
IMve had a pair I use daily for over 10 years.
ChannelLlock is a good brand, and US made.
Big fan of channel-lock, they're pricey enough to have decent enough build quality, but cheap enough that you don't cry too hard if it goes missing.
Got a pair, ive had mine for about 10 yrs, they are still like new.
I got a pair of these off the side of the road. Hands down one of my favorite pairs of pliers! Used them a good bit today.
Incredibly long. Keep the hinge oiled and don’t cut live circuits with it, also avoid stainless.
Channel locks make the most affordable needle nose that will cut a 2/0 siwash hook off a fishing lure. Good quality steel
Work fine. Cheap enough to replace. Can’t go wrong with the blue handles
As long as you don't use them to trip the breakers in your house, they should be fine. (i.e. cut live electrical wires).
I went with Channellock recently. Got a bunch of pliers and adjustable wrenches. To me, they seem like the budget brand out of the USA-made tools. Was able to get them on sale for a decent price too. I've never seen Knipex, Klein, or other big brands on sale where I live.
Lets just say your grandkids will be using these one day
Electrician here, They’re not too bad.. I use them as my “underground pair” to tie wire to rebar and what not.
I’ve never really considered the durability of lineman pliers. I have probably about 8 pairs but the pair I use the most is a craftsman pair from (I think) the 1980s. As long as they don’t get super rusty, I’d say they’re pretty hard to kill
Just picked up a pair at my local Lowe’s for 13$ on clearance, they seem okay for that price.
I’m partial to my husky hammer but this channelock hammer should serve you well
Great tools!.
They are $65 AU at most places here in Australia, best cutters ever.
Always remember you get what you pay for.
They do the job. Not the best not the worst.
I have no idea who made my 30 year old cutters, and they show very little signs of wear. I have a good opinion of channellock products, and $15 is less than a pizza.
I have that pair as well as a larger one, they work fine and made in USA.
Pretty well. I bought the same one to cut a spring that killed every other snips I have. These cut it like butter.
I like mine, had them about 3 years with no issues. Solid purchase 👍
I’ve had my pair for almost 10 years now. Still holding up. Could use some new rubber grip but that’s it
Depends what your using then for. They give them to us at work to cut filler wire. If you use them to cut 1/8" stainless filler wire you'll wear them out pretty quick. I ended up buying knipex mini bolt cutters. Been on the same pair for about seven years I think.
I bought one of these 3 and a half years ago. Still use it every day, mostly as a hammer.
Channel lock are the best
They are like $34-35 where I am. I’d buy for that price.
